《Moon Child》36. The Battle

When I came to, I realized my body wasn't on the ground anymore. I was growling and had Liam pines against a tree. Sahria must have gone after him after I shifted. I stopped growling and stepped back before I focused on slowing my heart rate and shifting back. When I opened my eyes, Liam was staring at me in shock.
"Dani... you literally look like you're on fire," Liam breathed. I looked at my arms to see that I was covered in a red glow.
"Your eyes," Liam said subconsciously. I didn't have time to ask him about it. Enemy wolves came towards us, growling from the tree line. The growling stopped when I turned to face them. They were looking at my eyes. I held a hand out and called out a hush of wind. It was more powerful than anything I'd done before. They cowered back before turning and running away.
"We need to go help you dad," I said quickly. Liam handed me an extra pair of clothes which I tossed on before I began running to where the action was. When we reached the field, wolves were going for each other's throats. I looked around as I tried to think up a plan. I couldn't do a mass attack because it would hurt our pack as well. I would just have to go through them one by one until they decided to retreat. I ran towards the first pair of fighting wolves and managed to touch the enemy wolf. I inflicted pain before I moved out of the way as the wolf collapsed. A long, deep gash run up its side.
I looked at my hands briefly. I would have to be careful. My power was magnified one hundred percent of not more. I ran through the fighting wolves one at a time as I inflicted pain through my fingers to each of the enemy wolves. I could see Liam and Alpha Connor also fighting in the distance. The wolf Alpha Connor was fighting was Alpha Greg. If we could defeat him, we could end this whole thing. I ran towards them as I continued to help our pack with the wolves they were fighting. When I finally reached the alphas, they were circling each other again to break from fighting. I painted softly as I watched them.

"Alpha Connor, Do you mind if I take this one? It is me he wants, after all," I asked. Alpha Connor nodded and gave me permission in his mind before he backed up. I stepped forward as I took a breath.
She glows now? Even dead, I bet she'd make a perfect nightlight, Alpha Greg thought.
"I don't think I'd still glow if I died," I said out loud. He growled before he charged at me. He didn't like the fact that I was in his head. Of course, I anticipated that and quickly dodged his attacked. While his back was turned, I grazed my fingers on his hind leg and inflicted pain. He helped as he turned away from me quickly. His back leg was bleeding, but he only seemed to be more on the defense. He continued to come at me while trying to avoid my hands. He was a fast learner. Everything I could do was through touch. He actually had a chance of winning this way. I had to think of something. An idea popped into my head as he lunged at me again. I quickly put a glamour on myself so he would see me hurt and unable to continue. I sat on the floor as I heard him snicker. He lunged for the final kill shot. When he did, I grabbed him around the throat and put everything I could into inflicting pain on him. A deep cut circled where my hands were as blood gushed out. The blood shined from the glow of the moon. A howl sounded before the enemy wolves began to flee. I pulled my blood-soaked hairs away from the dead alpha as I sighed. His body collapsed to the ground as his body lay lifeless. I felt arms go around me as Liam sighed near my ear.

"You scared me to death! I thought he actually hurt you. And you know I didn't mean all that earlier right? I was just trying to make Sahria mad," he said quickly. I chuckled and relaxed into his side.
"I know," I smiled. We left as Alpha Connor took care of the body. When I got inside the house, I went straight to the bathroom and began washing the blood from my hands. I scrubbed until it was all gone. I splashed water on my face before looking at myself in the mirror. The red glow was still very noticeable, but what caught my attention was my eyes. They were tiny replicas of the red moon outside. My pupil was completely gone like it was when I was having a vision. My appearance reminded me a lot of Aria in her depicted form, just with a red glow instead of a white one. I could only stare at myself.
"Dani, are you okay?" Liam asked as he wrapped his arms around my waist from behind me.
"I look... unreal," I said slowly. It was the truth. Even with my powers, I always felt grounded by the fact that I was still a human being, but right now, the fact that I was still human wasn't believable.
"Come on," Liam said as he pulled me out of the bathroom. He took me to the dining room where Luna Addie was setting the last dish on the table.
"Eat up! You've all had a long day," she smiled at us. The whole family was here: Bella, Lily, Luna Addie, Alpha Connor, And even my grandparents were here. I smiled at them sheepishly. I was happy to see them, but I was ashamed of how I appeared at the moment. I think it caught everyone off guard as they stared st me.
"I-I'm actually not that hungry tonight," I lied as I stood before retreating to Liam's room quickly. I sighed as I closed the door behind me. I was actually starving, but the looks were a little unnerving. Liam entered the room after I moved towards the bed. I looked at him in surprise when I saw the plates in his hands.
"You should still eat. I know you're a little... uncomfortable right now with your look, but you shouldn't starve because of it," he explained. I thanked him before I dug in.

Prey No More
Imagine being given a second chance at life. Not only that but with a life you chose (sort of). This is exactly the situation that our character is in. He was once a Biology Graduate Student involved in a special program in Alaska studying Polar Bears. In an ironic twist of fate his life is ended by exactly that which he was trying to study. Now, in a new world, he refuses to be anything but the top of the food chain. IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a story I began writing a year and a half ago and decided to shelf, I'm coming back to it now because I miss writing; however, I have not carved out any time specifically for this and, as of now, it will be something I do on the side for fun. Currently I have 9 chapters plus a prologue written; I'm going to be going through and editting it to be in a present tense (from past), as well as changing some of the story and grammar. Let me know what you think, and thanks for reading.

Unwitting Champion
"In stories this is always easy. There's magic and powers, and quick steps to claiming that power for one's self. This doesn't feel true for me. I'm supposed to be a Champion, whatever that means, and yet I don't feel important. I don't have all the bells and whistles, which honestly feels familiar even in a new world. But what was I expecting? I haven't had the worst life - there are people with worse problems than mine - I've known what it is to struggle, to be pulled down instead of being helped up.This is nothing new."When in great peril, the Kingdom of Althor has no choice but to send a call into the void, beseeching the Fates to bring them a man who would save them from the coming darkness. Unfortunately the path the Fates chart is often unknowable to men and the Champion who appears is not what the kingdom expected.Unwitting Champion is a story of a guy displaced, dealing first and foremost with trying to survive in a world where he is no longer a person but a tool, and - at least from the reaction of those around him - a shoddy one at that. His major goal is to survive long enough that either he can run or find a way home, because as exciting as the possibility of learning magic might be, he would rather have a boring life than a short life.
