《Moon Child》35. Red Moon

It wasn't that hard to avoid the wolf I was fighting. Because I was in his head, I knew his every move before he made it. He couldn't touch me. I dodged ever single one of his advances. When I started to get bored, I simply touched his arm and converted energy through my hands to make him sleep. Not once did I open my eyes. It was probably a little too easy. I never even took my jacket off. The crowd was silent as they watched their comrade snore peacefully on the ground.
"Any more questions?" Alpha Connor said smugly. I could sense he was proud as I opened my eyes and went to stand by Liam. A lot of them were stunned, some impressed, and others were scared. It was to be expected. The others began training as the guy I fought finally began to come to his senses. He shot up quick, no longer in wolf form and looked around confused.
"What happened?" He asked quickly. I shrugged as I smirked.
"You got completely embarrassed; that's what happened. Nice going Waylon. You should know what you're up against before you start running your mouth," Liam explained. I smirked at Waylon as he stretched.
"I guess having you around can counter having you around," Waylon said smartly.
"Hey," Liam growled in warning. Waylon only chuckled as he pat a hand on Liam's shoulder.
"Relax, it's a joke. Of course we would protect our next Luna. It goes without saying," Waylon clarified.

"What happens during a red moon?" I asked Aria. It had been a few weeks and nothing had happened, but we still continued to train. It was a rare time I had with Aria. She hadn't been around in physical form as of late. She showed up suddenly to warn me of the upcoming red moon.

"Nothing really for other wolves, but for you, it's when you're most dangerous. One of two things will happen: Sahria will take over your human form and all your powers with it, or you'll be able to stay conscious if you shift. It really depends on what form your in when the moon hits," Aria explained.
"How long does it last?" I asked.
"Until the moon goes back to its original form and color. Sometimes, it's a day, sometimes two," she shrugged.
"But I can't even control my shift as it is," I sighed as I laid back on the bed. Liam was talking to his dad in his office, which is probably why Aria suddenly appeared.
"You would have to rile Sahria up in order to shift. Once that happens, you can control both forms and Sahria will sleep, but you have to be careful because if you don't shift before the red moon appears, Sahria will be the one in control of both forms. And don't think she doesn't know how to use your powers, she does. Everything you're conscious of, she is too," Aria explained. I sighed and rubbed my forehead with my hand.
"When is the red moon?" I asked, already exhausted. Aria hesitated.
"It's tonight," she answered softly. I shot up and stared at her.
"And you're only telling me this now?" I asked. She shrugged.
"I forgot," she said. I looked out the window. The sun was already beginning to set. I stood quickly before I ran out of the room. I went down the stairs and threw open the door of the Alpha's study.
"We've got a problem," I said quickly. I knew I was being rude by interrupting them, but this was an emergency. Just as I said that, a siren blared.

We were under attack.
Liam and Alpha Connor shot up at the same time and headed towards me. I held my hands out to stop them as I blocked the doorway.
"Believe it or not, my problem is bigger than that," I said. They looked at me confused and worried.
"If I don't figure out a way to pull Sahria out to shift right now, she'll have control over my body and powers until the next moon," I explained quickly. They still looked confused. I sighed before I grabbed Liam's arm.
"Just take me somewhere isolated and get her mad. We don't have time," I said in a rush as I dragged him towards the front door.
"You two go do that. I'll handle the attack," Alpha Connor said before he ran out the back. Liam ran ahead of me and I followed him into the tree line. After a while of running, we stopped, still covered by trees.
"Okay, how do I get her mad?" He asked.
"You're our mate, surely you can think of something?" I yelled at him. I was scared. Scared of why Sahria would do while we were already under attack.
"Okay, um, you're ugly," Liam tried. I deadpanned to him as I crossed my arms.
"It needs to sound like you mean it. More," I said. He winced like he wasn't comfortable doing it.
"I know you don't mean it. I need you to do this, please? We're almost out of time," I begged as my eyes watched the sunset.
"Okay. I never really loved you. I don't want you as a mate. I wish I never met you," he yelled. I felt my legs snap, bringing me to my knees as I cringed and bit my lip to keep myself from yelling from the pain.
"More," I breathed when I realized that he stopped.
"I still love Sophia and I'm seeing her behind your back," he said quickly. That was it. That was the final nail in the coffin. I collapsed so I was on my hands and knees now as I gasped for breaths.
"Run," I choked out to Liam before I completely lost consciousness.
