《Hurts So Good》Chapter 20 | Shootout

This is fucking complicated.
I am trying to save her from an eventual heartbreak, save the both of us but her determination makes me throw the caution out of the window.
I just want to kiss her and lose myself in her. Forget about the whole damn world, I just need her.
If Nora hadn't interrupted us I don't know when we would have left that closet because every kiss ignites a fire deep inside me making me want her more and more in every way. Emotionally...and physically.
God, damn it.
I watched her work on the computer as I sat in the seat beside her facing her. Work is boring but I can watch her all day without blinking.
"Okay, it is creeping me out now. Stop staring at me." She spoke, her eyes still fixed on her computer though a hint of smile lingered on her lips.
"I don't have anything better to do." I answered.
"So you are going to keep staring at me all day?"
"Yes."
She chuckled and continued working.
A couple of minutes later, she stood up. "I have to take a file from Luke, I'll be back."
Luke was a guy from the other department and someone who always stood a little too close to her for my liking but she warned me not to do anything or his face would have been deformed by me till now.
I stood up too. "No. I'm coming with you."
"Elysian...you don't need to follow me around so much, I will be fine. I'm just going to a floor below. Give me three minutes total."
"No, I am coming with you Farren."
She sighed and rolled her eyes and then suddenly pointed behind me. "Look at that!"
Instead of looking where she pointed, my eyes narrowed down on her and she groaned. "Seriously? It was supposed to work!"
"Not that easy to fool me, babe."
She huffed. "Aargh! You are impossible." And she turned around and started walking to the elevators and I followed her immediately much to her disappointment.
She started to walk quickly hoping to lose me and I gave her a little victory and slowed down my steps putting some distance between us.
Down the corridor, the elevators door slid opened and Luke himself walked out with a file in his hand and he beamed on seeing her.
"Farren! I was coming to see you only!"
I kept my distance not wanting to anger her anymore and watched him like a hawk.
He handed the file over to her and she thanked him for it and once again he stepped closer than necessary. Why won't he leave? His work is over.
He said something to her which I couldn't hear and she nodded to that and then his hand shot forward and rested on her lower back, too low... almost on her hips and I watched how her body stiffened and she made an effort to step away.
Oh, this fucker is so dead now.
I took long strides towards them and heard him ask her, "Are you free tonight?"
And she once again tried to move away but his hold tightened. I am going to enjoy breaking all the bones in his body.

As I reached them, I grabbed his hand which was touching her and I twisted it making him yelp in pain.
Farren looked up at me in shock and relief and moved closer to me as I refused to leave his arm. "You touch my wife or any other woman inappropriately ever again and you will find yourself buried six feet under." And I pulled out my gun from the holster around my waist and pressed it to the middle of his forehead. It was enough to scare the shit out of him.
"Elysian, stop!" Farren scolded.
And when I didn't back down, she held my gun and forced it away from him. "Stop. It's okay..."
Reluctantly, I released his arm and he stumbled back wincing in pain and rubbing his wrist.
And I pulled Farren closer to me, taking her face in my hand and scrutinizing it for any sign of discomfort. "Are you okay?" I asked softly.
"I'm okay, Elysian... it's alright."
I heard him wince again and I snapped my head to him and shot daggers at him. "Leave while you still can." And he practically ran away from there.
And I kissed her forehead. "You sure you are okay?"
"Yes." She nodded. "I am okay. Leave him now."
"Just say it and I will go break his arm."
She patted my cheek. "I know you can do that but no, Elysian, seriously I am okay."
"That's why I follow you around." I complained.
"Okay..." She rested her forehead on my chest. "You can follow me wherever you like, I won't complain."
.
.
.
After work, we had gone out for dinner and by the time I drove us back home, it was quite late and the roads were empty.
Silence enveloped us and the only the sound of the engine could be heard and soon at a traffic signal, two SUVs came to a stop infront of us in the middle of the road causing me press the brake suddenly making us jerk forward.
My jaw clenched when I saw that Italian guy step out of the car along with his guards and I sent a quick text to Hector.
I undid my seatbelt and said to Farren, "Stay in the car. Lock the doors."
She grabbed my arm. "Elysian, it's not safe."
I removed her arm from around mine and bringing it up to my lips, kissed her knuckles. "I'll be okay, babe."
And despite her protests, I stepped out of the car while cocking my gun and making sure it was loaded.
Tattoos covered his neck and he stood in the middle of the road with his hands in his pockets, his black hair styled back, a piercing in his right ear and why that fucker wore a sunglass in the middle of the night, I have no fucking idea. Though he had a handsome face, it only made him look ridiculous.
"The bodyguard who is also her husband. How interesting." He spoke in his thick Italian accent.
"I don't have time for the small talks." I was literally bored, he could have started with some punch line instead.
His men stood beside him with their guns ready waiting for his command.

He finally removed his sunglass, thank fuck and pocketed it.
"Give us your wife and join our side instead. It will benefit you."
"Thanks but not interested. You can leave now."
He made a disgusted face. "You are so... annoying."
"I know. My wife keeps reminding me of that."
I need to stall him for as long as Hector arrives with the backup. After that he is dead.
"Your wife...you say that with so much possessiveness...tell me do you love her? A bodyguard in love with his client...? Does it sound like this story will have a happy ending?"
"The fuck are you to tell me that, huh?! Just fucking leave, I don't have time for your nuisance."
I heard a distant roar of an engine and I mentally sighed in relief.
Soon, Hector's Audi came into my view as he arrived from behind them and another car came from the other side.
"Enzo. It's over now." Hector stepped out and everyone's head snapped to him in surprise.
Enzo cursed underneath his breath and without any warning, fired a shot towards Hector which he successfully ducked and after that chaos erupted.
I ducked near my car and asked Farren to duck too as I shot a few of his men, not actually killing them but injuring them enough.
Seconds turned into minutes and it seemed to stretch on forever as I came out of my hiding spot to assist Hector properly.
I don't when or how or why she came out, it was only when I heard her shout my name. "Elysian!"
I turned in her direction and my blood ran cold on seeing that Enzo holding her with his gun pointed to her head. It was a cliche move but enough to make me feel nauseated with dread.
I held up my hand telling the other of our men to stop everything and I glanced around to see that almost everyone was down except him.
And without wasting any time and without thinking twice, I aimed and shot his arm which was around her neck making him fall down to the ground.
And I ran towards her and she crashed into my arms, breathing heavily but that fucker just wouldn't learn his lesson.
She had her back to him and I watched in horror as he raised the gun and pointed at her with his non injured hand and just as he shot, I turned her around, protecting her with my body and that bullet embedded itself in my bicep instead making me groan loudly and I saw as Hector shot Enzo and I fell down with Farren in my arms.
"No! Elysian!" She pressed her palm over where the blood was flowing.
I was tired. I seriously was and losing blood on top of it wasn't a good thing.
"Hector!" She shouted and Hector ran to us, tucking away his gun looking concerned.
"You are okay..." I whispered, brushing a kiss to her cheek before I collapsed in her arms as darkness consumed me.
.
.
.
My bicep felt like it was on fire and groaning in pain, I opened my eyes and felt relieved seeing I was in our bedroom. I laid shirtless in my bed and my bicep was now heavily bandaged.
I somehow managed to get into a sitting position. Where's Farren?
As if on cue, I heard her voice right outside the door. "Why isn't he in the hospital, Hector? He got fucking shot!"
"I have much better doctors than the hospital can ever provide and don't talk to me like that ever again."
"First of all I will talk however I want to and secondly, he would be under intense care there."
"He's my brother. I know what's right for him."
"And he is my husband!" My heart skipped a beat on that.
"For another month or two."
"You know what, you both are assholes but at least Elysian is an adorable asshole." I didn't know whether to find that amusing or offending or both.
And she pushed opened the door and before Hector could follow her inside, she slammed the door in his face.
"You are awake, thank God!" She exclaimed and sat down on the edge of the bed beside me.
"Is it hurting a lot?" She asked, her eyes looking reddish as if she had been crying.
I ran my uninjured hand over her head lovingly. "I am okay."
She bent forward and hugged me, placing her head on my chest, careful not to hurt my arm. "You scared me so much." And I felt a drop of tear trickle down my chest. "Don't you dare do that ever again."
I stroked her hair and kissed the top of her head. "For you, I would do anything, Farren."
She lifted her head to glare at me. "Even risk your life? Are you serious? You took the fucking shot for me!"
Her bottom lip trembled and the anger slowly vanished from her eyes, replaced by something else. "You risked your life for me, Elysian."
There was something so intriguing in her eyes, those emotions, the way she gazed at me with so much warmth, the warmth that I didn't deserve, with so much...love.
One look. And it undid me. Fucked up my whole life.
In that moment I knew what the doctor told me was true. I was in love with this woman. With my wife. And there's wasn't anything in this world that I wouldn't do for her.
I held her chin in between my fingers. "Kiss me", I whispered. Pleaded. "Please."
Her eyes searched mine before falling down to my lips and then her lips were on mine and they were more addicting than any other drug.
I kissed her back hungrily, parting her lips with mine and sliding my tongue against hers eliciting a soft moan from her.
Her hand clutched my shoulder and the other caressed my face and I pulled her over my lap.
Her lips were so soft, like heaven and they moved over mine perfectly, like they were made for me and only me.
I didn't stop, not for a second, I couldn't get enough of her and I wanted more. When she pulled back a bit, I captured her lips again not giving her a chance to breathe and she squeezed my shoulder and tapped it.
I eventually pulled back and panting she rested her forehead on mine. "You forgot to breathe." And she chuckled hoarsely.
I pressed another lingering kiss on her lips.
She was the home I was searching for and I would be damned if I ever let her go.
