《Hurts So Good》Chapter 4 | Work

The car ride was awfully quiet for which I was grateful. She talks a lot. And I hate to talk that much. What an amazing pair we are.
She was gazing out of the window when her phone rang and she grabbed it and I glanced towards her phone seeing someone named Zeke calling her.
Who's Zeke?
She picked up the call and pressed the phone to her ear and I heard a loud male voice on the other side. "Farren baby! Why didn't you come to work today, I am missing you!"
Baby? Who is he? Her boyfriend?
"I got..." She shot me a glare. "...stuck somewhere...I promise I'll be there tomorrow."
"You even cancled out our plan for the club, what is going on?" This time he wasn't shouting but still I could hear him loud and clear.
"Sorry, babe. Next time I promise."
BABE?
And after that I couldn't hear whatever he said and she said goodbye to him before hanging up.
It's none of my business if he is her boyfriend or something else. My job is to protect her not pry into her personal life.
But what if he is dangerous to her? And now she is married to me, our marriage might be fake but she should still respect it.
My grip around the steering wheel tightened and I forced myself to keep my mouth shut and drove to my penthouse.
Reaching there, she followed me out of the car and into the elevator.
As the elevator stopped at the top floor, she stepped out of the elevator and looked around the penthouse in awe. "So...you do have some money after all."
I mentally rolled my eyes and taking her hand in mine dragged her upstairs and opened the door to the bedroom. "This will be our room."
Her head snapped to me. "What do you mean 'our'?"
"'Our' as in yours and mine. We will be sharing a room."
She took a step back in disgust and scrunched up her nose. "Why would I share a room with you? Our marriage isn't that real."
I unbottoned my suit jacket and her eyes followed my actions as I removed the jacket and draped it over my forearm. "I need to keep an eye on you 24/7 hence, we will be sharing a room. It's simple. Use your brain sometimes or else it might rot."
"How dare you insult me like that!" She seethed and ignoring her walked inside the room with her following me furiously. "Why do you have to be such a big asshole?"

I started to unbotton my shirt and I glanced at her over my shoulder. "Why do you have to be such a spoiled brat?" I retorted.
"I am not a spoiled brat, I am an independent, grown up woman."
"Then act like one." And I removed my shirt letting it drop down to the floor and as I moved to the bathroom, I once again glanced at her and found her balantly ogling my back, her mouth parted slightly and a tint of pink on her cheeks.
Fuck. I could feel a blush crawling up my neck too. Pushing open the bathroom door I went inside and locked it.
I am not used to having a presence in my house and I usually roam shirtless around the house but I need to be careful from now on since I now have my wife living with me.
And as far as I remember, I have never been shirtless infront of anyone let alone a woman.
I sighed and stripped off the rest of the clothes and turned on the shower, letting it wash away my worries.
.
.
.
She stood infront of me with her hands plastered on her hips. "We are not going to share a bed."
"I beg to differ."
"You can be a gentleman and sleep on the floor."
I clicked my tongue. "I don't claim to be a gentleman. Either share the bed or you are free to sleep on the floor." And ignoring her protests, I laid down on one side of the bed and draped the duvet over me. "Goodnight, have a peaceful sleep."
I had my back towards her and I closed my eyes but I could hear her grumbling to herself and a minute later, I felt the bed dip beside me and I smiled to myself.
I am going to tame her stubbornness for sure as long as we are married.
"Order a couch or a sofa cum bed tomorrow." She ordered.
"I don't want to waste money on unnecessary things. I have a big enough bed."
"Then I will order it myself."
"You won't."
"I can. And I will. Wait and see."
God, why does she have to be so infuriating? I turned around to face her and maybe my calculations were wrong, the bed wasn't that big and I came face to face with her, our faces inches apart.
If this effected her, she didn't show, she stared right into my eyes with a challenging look.
"You will do no such thing. We will be sharing the bed." I emphasized on each letter so that her slow brain can grasp it.

She frowned and pursed her lips. "Why are you so hell bent on sharing the bed? I will be the one sleeping on the couch...you can take the bed."
Oh.
Oh...
My features softened. "Oh, okay...you can buy a couch then." I should turn away, our faces were too close to each other.
The frown remained on her forehead. "Didn't you say earlier that you have a lot of money? So, shouldn't you be the one buying the couch for me?"
"Aren't you the one who wants a couch so shouldn't you be the one buying for yourself?" I retorted.
Her face blanked. "You really are an asshole."
I mentally sighed in relief knowing the conversation was coming to an end and I can put some distance between us.
"Thanks for the compliment." I muttered and finally turned my back to hers and took in a deep breath to calm myself.
Women makes me uncomfortable especially now I am suddenly sharing a home with one who also happens to be my wife. This is a weird feeling, I have never been so close with a woman.
Hopefully I will be able to manage to get through all this.
.
.
.
I brewed two cups of coffee and placed them on the table along with the plates of omelette. I glanced at the clock for the second time, she should wake up if she doesn't want to be late for work.
I sat down on the table and started to have my breakfast while her coffee and omelette started to gradually go cold.
Once I was done with the breakfast, I waited for a few minutes and I got up and took out the tub of strawberry ice cream from the freezer and had a few bites of it. I do this every morning since it gives me the energy to survive through the rest of the day and I would be needing a lot more energy since now I will be looking after her.
Next, I loaded my gun and tucked it in the holster wrapped around my waist and wore my navy blue suit jacket over it and by then she I watched her walk down the stairs looking unsure about what to do.
She was already dressed up when she reached me and I gestured to the already cold omelette and the cup of coffee.
She eyed the table and raised a brow at me. "You made breakfast for me?"
"I am supposed to keep my client healthy and well fed. Start eating if you don't want to be late for work."
She looked like she wanted to argue but thankfully, she didn't and pulling out a chair, she sat down. "Why did you agree to protect me?"
"Because my brother asked me to."
"And you always do whatever he asks you to?" She cut a piece of the omelette and eyed it carefully.
"I trust Hector."
She rolled her eyes and twirled the fork around. "Should I worry about the omelette being poisoned?"
"No. Just the coffee."
Her eyes snapped to me and she might be glaring at me but at the same her lips twitched and she stuffed her mouth with the omelette.
As she was done with the breakfast, she got up and walked to the elevator with me following closely behind her.
Reaching my car, I held the door open for her and she slid in and I sat in the driver's seat and I drove towards her office.
When we reached her office, I parked the car and got out of it as she got out too and once I started to follow her, she stopped and turned to face me. "You can't follow me in there."
"Why can't I?"
"Because it's my workplace! No husband follows his wife inside her workplace", she said exasperatedly.
I shrugged and pulled out an ID card from my pocket and held it infront of her making her mouth part in surprise. "I work here too."
She looked back and forth at the ID card and me. "From when did you start to work here?"
I pocketed the ID card. "From today."
She shook her head slightly and face palmed herself. "Tell me you are kidding. There's no way you are going to work with me just so you can keep an eye on me."
"Of course I can do that."
"Do you even know anything about software engineer?"
"I did some research yesterday evening. I'm a fast learner."
She looked at me like I had grown two heads. "I am not going to ask how you even got a job here."
Yeah, it was an easy task. It took Hector only five minutes to threaten the shit out of their boss and land me a job here.
That's another thing that he would be getting a lot of money for that.
Before she could open her mouth to probably curse at me, she was cut off.
"FARREN BABY!"
