《MY Sweet Interlude》20 - He Loves me but I love someone else

Jihyun and Aliya had lunch together later that week. It was just a friendly lunch Jihyun had told her repeatedly before she finally agreed. They chose a restaurant close to the hotel which was a local favorite. They used to eat there a lot when they were dating and it's also a favorite of her friends because of their good food and cozy environment. The staff knew them too and some of them looked surprised when they saw them together after a long while. They were given a table next to the window overlooking the street in front of her work.

"I miss this place," Jihyun said with a sigh as he looked around the place.

Aliya smiles in reply. "It's still constantly packed with people as usual." She comes to this place almost once a week since it's just across the hotel. Jihyun's work is a bit far from this place and since she broke up with him, he did his best to avoid coming here because it reminded him of her.

They placed their orders before he updates her about his family when she asked how they were. He is an only child and his grandmother lives with them. He loves his grandmother so much because he practically raised him since his parents were constantly away because of their jobs. Aliya remembered getting a call from her when they broke up. She didn't ask her questions on why she broke up with him, she just wanted to know if she's doing well and isn't getting sick. Aliya still apologized to her for ending her relationship with her grandson and she simply shrugs the issue off telling her that relationships are like that, it doesn't end with a happy ending. That sort of lightened up the guilty feeling inside her. Aliya visited his grandmother before her birthday to give her a present a few months ago.

"Thank you for doing that. It really made her happy and it touched my heart how you care about her that you remember her birthday." Jihyun said.

"She is nice and I am thankful that she raised her grandson well." Aliya replies looking at Jihyun briefly before looking away. He is a nice person, one can just feel his sincerity in everything he does. She honestly hopes he finds a deserving woman for him someday.

Jihyun kept her updated about the things that had been happening with his grandmother. Aliya laughed at some of the stories he told her. Jihyun's phone rang and he had to step away from their table as he spoke with someone from work. Just at the same time, her own phone rang, it was Jungkook. "Aliya, turn to your right." When she turned, she found Jungkook standing at the other side of the room. All the boys were there including Yoongi. She motioned to Jihyun where she was heading.

"Really Aliya, I thought you're not dating pretty boy anymore." Jimin said.

"I'm not. I'm just having lunch with him." Aliya replied.

"Just like you saw him at the club huh?" Jungkook asked.

Aliya raised an eyebrow crossing her arms before her. "Well if one of you have at least told me you'd be here for lunch today then I wouldn't be accepting his invitation and have lunch with you guys instead. But no, here you are all six of you and nobody asked me when I am just right across the street. Now what do you have to say?"

"It's like this Aliya, I texted Hobi if he wants to have lunch here because he went to my office and then he texted Jimin who texted Jungkook and Namjoon who happened to be with Yoongi. So here we all are." Jin explained.

"I see. So if that's the case, nobody should be grilling me over the fact that I am with Jihyun right now ok?" Aliya said. She threw a quick look at Yoongi who was looking at her with a smirk. What is that supposed to mean she asked herself. "Well, it seems our lunch has arrived, I better go back." Aliya said before waving a hand as she turned back to the table where Jihyun was waiting.

"Your friends are here too." Jihyun commented when she got back.

Aliya shrugged. "Yeah, this is one of their favorite restaurants." She replied. Jihyun threw a look at her friends' table before looking back at her.

"Your best friend isn't back yet?" He asked.

"Nope, he'll be back by the end of the week." Aliya replied as they started eating. How will she face him after the last time they saw each other? Will he ever want to talk to her again? She didn't want to think about it just yet, she's got a few more days to spare before he comes home. It's not like he'd try talk to her when they arrive. They still have to take care of things on their new house for sure. They got the place 2 weeks before the wedding and as far as she knew, they were still getting furnishings for it but just couldn't spend a lot of time doing it since they were also getting ready for the wedding.

One of the things Aliya liked about Jihyun was how open he was with her friendship with them. Her other exs never liked how she was close with them. The sad thing about it though was that her friends were just civil with Jihyun but not openly friendly. Namjoon and Jin made conversations with him during those time she'd take him with her on their gatherings.

Her friends stopped by at their table when they were about to leave. Jihyun bowed to them with a smile. Jungkook walked towards Jihyun and clapped his shoulders in a friendly manner but Aliya knew it was harder than necessary. He told Jihyun to make sure Aliya gets back safely. Aliya rolled her eyes because they just have to cross the street.

Yoongi was on the phone, and he didn't even turn to them when they left. Jihyun sighed as soon as everyone was gone.

"Sorry about that." Aliya said as referring to how her friends treated him.

"Imagine if they were all your brothers. I don't think you'll ever get married." Jihyun joked.

"Either that or I'll throw a fit and marry at a young age to piss them off." Aliya replied with a laugh.

Jihyun was quiet for a while before he spoke. "I meant what I said that I want to be your friend if you can't have me as your boyfriend again."

Aliya looked up at him and met his eyes. She smiled. "We can be friends, but would that be fair for you? Considering..." She didn't continue her sentence.

"Considering that I still love you?" Jihyun finished her sentence for her.

Aliya felt her face flush with his words. "Yeah that. Like I also told you, we can be friends if you promise to stop telling me you love me and try to move on and find someone else who really deserves you. If you can't do that, then better if we stop all this."

Jihyun shook his head with a short laugh. "I don't get it. How can your friends not fall in love with you?"

Well, I am asking myself that question about my best friend. Aliya said in her mind. "Well, I guess I am not their type." She replied with a smile looking outside the window and found herself eye to eye with Yoongi. Namjoon sat next to him in his car. He had to stop on a red light, and he had the window down. They were obviously talking about her because Namjoon leaned towards Yoongi's open window and waved at her pointing at Jihyun with a raised eyebrow.

Aliya shrugged and shook her head with a smile. Her phone buzzed and the message was from Namjoon.

Poor guy is still in love with you.

We're just friends now. Aliya replied.

Yeah, but he is still in love with you. Namjoon replied.

Aliya replied with a laughing emoji with tears. Isn't that tragic? She only wanted one guy to love her back and he didn't, and now it's impossible to happen. This guy in front of her tells her he loves her and he's perfectly good looking, hot and a nice person and yet she couldn't love him back because she felt nothing for him.

Her mother constantly reminds her you can't have everything in life. Just like with her and her dad, they undoubtedly loved each another, her father worked hard and became successful and just as they thought things were perfect, her dad died. He had his first and major heart attack at the age of 42 and though he left them everything, money couldn't cover for her father's absence as she got older. She admired how her mother single handedly took care of everything in spite of her busy schedule as a doctor. Her grandparents were there to help and most specially Taehyung's parents too because they supported them all the way. Her mother is still young, she's only forty six now. Her dad had been eight years older than her, and Aliya wished she'd find someone who'd love her again. That way, at least one of them will be happy.
