Halloween Event (Pt. 2): A Party With A Different Kind Of Scary

--- Maya ---

“Well if I have to go, I guess I’m kind of curious about Vi and Tommy’s party.”

She blatantly ignored Vi’s silent curse, even as Tommy went on to point out that, “We’re going to a costume party, if she’s going to be going with us she’ll need a costume.”

“You’re right.” Their mamá nodded.

“I mean we could probably come up with something, but I’m not sure if we’ll be able to get it together before we all have to leave for our stuff.” Tommy continued, appearing for all the world as if he was legitimately worried about her not getting to go with them.

(He always was the better actor of the two.)

(Shame we can see straight through it after so many years.)

(Yep, really feeling the love, hermano.)

“And if this is her first real party we shouldn’t force her to stand ou-”

“Oh, don’t worry about that.” Their mamá interrupted Tommy as she reached into a bag she’d set on the counter. “I got this in case she changed her mind about heading out tonight.”

“Pfft.” Vi slapped a hand over her mouth as she transitioned from a laugh into a cough, earning an odd look from their mother and brother as she waved the pair off.

Whether it was because of the costume itself or the face she knew she was making, Maya couldn’t tell. (Either way she’s laughing at us, I just know it…)

“Uh, this is… a costume.” She said, trying to keep the twitch of her eye to a minimum.

“Sí, I saw how you were looking at it when we were getting Seamus and Izzy their costumes so I figured I’d get it for you should you quit being stubborn about Halloween.” Her mamá -(Who loves you and isn’t doing this to piss you off.) (But totally would if she knew.)- told her.

“That’s… nice of you.” She forced out as she stared at the -(stereotype)- mad scientist costume in front of her, earning another smothered laugh from Vi. (Who I’d like to smother.)

(I’m sure we can find a pillow or something.)

“Alright, so you remember the rules right.” Vi asked once more as they walked through the old trainyard to the party their friends had set up.

“Yes.” She nodded, as she adjusted her goggles and lab coat. “Don’t leave the party without one of you. Don’t accept drinks or food from anyone. If anyone is giving me trouble, find one of you or one of the security guys.” (Or just tase them with our ring.)

(We should probably save that for an emergency so Vi doesn’t ask why we have a weapon on us.)

(If we use the taser then we have proof that we needed self-defense, duh.)

“You forgot not to wander into any of the train carts.” Tommy threw out. “Admittedly not as dangerous as the other stuff, but still something you should probably avoid.”

“Why?” She frowned.

Tommy gave Vi an amused look. “You want to explain it to us, big sis? Why your impressionable hermanitos shouldn’t go wandering into the train carts?”

Their sister gave him a glare for that, before eventually letting out a sigh. “The carts are where some people wander off for… privacy.”

“Okay.” She nodded, not really getting it.

(Which is surprising given how much smut you read.)

(What’s that supposed to-) “Oh…”

“Yeah.” Vi grimaced.

“Uh, do the rents know this is going to be that kind of party?” She couldn’t help but ask.

“Fuck no.” Tommy laughed before shaking his head. “Honestly, it’s not that bad but when you mix alcohol with this many seniors and college kids you’re bound to get some people who want to try something when no one is looking.”

“Which again is why I want you to stay close to one of us at all times.” Vi told her. “And no drinking anything with alcohol.”

It was just now occurring to her that this was an actual not-for-kids party she was going to. (Mistakes may’ve been made.)

Rather than admitting this, she instead asked, “Uh, how many people are going to be here exactly?”

“Not a lot.” Tommy shrugged. “With the curfew and everything else there are fewer people coming out for this party than our usual ones.”

Vi scoffed. “You’re standards for a lot are a nearly sold out concert, by her standards the hundred or so people here are going to be a lot. Hell, if we’re being honest, this is probably throwing her in the deep end as far as this kind of thing goes.”

“That, uh, that doesn’t sound good.” She finally confessed, as her inner introvert told her, (This may’ve been a bad idea.)

(Nah, this’ll be easy.) Her inner madness disagreed.

(What makes you say that?! We are not a people person, we are a wallflower!) Her inner reason panicked. (What are we even supposed to do at a party?!)

(I don’t know, get into a fight with someone? That’s what we did at our last rave.)

She paused to consider that.

(She’s not wrong.)

(That doesn’t- That was different!)

(Nah, we got this, and if it becomes too much we just need to find someone and punch their lights out.)

“Alright, we’re getting close.” Tommy told them as the faint thumping of music grew closer as they neared the trainyard’s main station, a number of colored lights pouring out from within.

Even outside she spotted a handful of people in costumes lingering outside of the party, a couple of them very clearly smoking, and a few more than that with beer bottles in their hands.

Forcing herself to keep calm, she followed her elder siblings into the train station where she spotted what was definitely more than ‘not a lot’ of people. (There’s got to be at least a hundred people here…)

(One hundred and three… I counted…)

(You’re both being babies about this.) Her inner passion scoffed. (I mean just look around, this is no different than Decker’s rave, just with a different venue.)

(Except we have no weapons, and no actual objective to focus on for the evening!) Her inner logic argued.

(Well we could try having fun?)

(Everyone here is older than us! We’re just going to look like the sad younger sibling that annoyed their elder sibling to- Mios dios, we are the younger sibling that annoyed their elder sibling into bringing them to the party!)

A hand touching her shoulder caused her to jump, and Vi gave her a concerned look as she pulled back her hand. “You okay My?”

She swallowed before nodding and then shaking her head as she looked at all the people. “I just, uh, I just realized I have no idea what to do at a party…”

“Yeah, uh…” Vi looked around the party before giving Tommy a concerned look.

Her elder siblings had a brief silent conversation before Tommy gave a sigh, “Alright, well… I’m pretty sure the dance floor is open if you want to try that?”

“Uh, yeah, I’m… I can’t, um, dance…” Or she couldn’t dance in front of so many people.

Tommy gave a snort of amusement. “Yeah, most people here can’t dance but pretty much everyone is buzzed enough that no one cares about how badly anyone dances.”

(But the people…)

“Or we could just hang back and people watch?” Vi suggested, putting a hand on her shoulder. “Everyone here is dressed up so there’s plenty of stuff to comment on? And judging costumes from the sidelines is something nice and easy.”

“Unfortunately, we did tell our friends we were going to be here so they’re probably going to find us wherever we end up. Might be better to just find them now and carve out a little corner for ourselves somewhere.” Tommy pointed out. “That’ll give us all a ‘safe space’ in case anyone gets tired of everything.”

“But it also means wading through the crowd before Maya can get used to all of this.” Vi frowned. “I mean it’s a good idea, but I don’t want to risk her getting overwhelmed before she can get used to the crowd, lights, and music.”

“Right…” Tommy nodded, rubbing the back of his neck before turning to look at her. “How about it? What do you feel comfortable with My?”

She glanced around the party, at all of the people moving and dancing, the loud lights and music playing, and her elder siblings before telling them
