《Crossing The Lands》9] - [Gathering Ingredients (2)]

Flipping the pages again, Wu Tian tried to memorize all of the drawings in vain. His memory was not good enough unfortunately. But he did not fret. Guizou was here, a personal encyclopedia!
Muttering, Wu Tian asked along the painfully boring minutes. "Still nothing?" "No-ever mind. Over there."
Following Guizou's finger, Wu Tian saw an off-white flower. The real deal was hinted to be quite big, the surrounding scenery drawn fairly small. It looked very similar to a lily. It pointed toward the ceiling of a damp cave. The drawing was indeed well made and immersive.
Searching for the name, Wu Tian raised his brows. "Is that it? The Ten Petals Ghost Flower?"
However, the moment Wu Tian looked at his good old master, he understood this flower to be something else.
They still got the name wrong?
Confirming his thoughts was Guizou's voice. "Indeed, indeed. These people... it definitely isn't and cannot be that flower. It's a Yin Flower! And these dumbasses can't realize that when you use the name of a flower that indicates a specific number of petals, then it should have exactly that amount?! The Yin Flower can have as low as three, four or five petals and sometimes more than seven. But it doesn't have ten. Even if it did, it wouldn't be a constant event."
Wu Tian then pretended to be impressed while his loathing expression was completely genuine.
The more I learn. Well, I only learn that I shouldn't trust the intel of anyone here.
Not pursuing his thoughts, Wu Tian checked the price. "Mmh... Doesn't cost much." This swiftly caused Guizou to show clear disdain. "A Purple Foundation Herb is ten golds, but a Yin Flower is three coppers? When the latter is much rarer? Do they grow one but not the other?"
Definitely a good deal, Guizou was only complaining because of their lack of knowledge, since he was very happy with the price. But when he looked again, he noticed something even more outrageous.
"Wait... hold on... Did I read that... middle grade?! Three coppers for a middle grade Yin Flower?!" His eyes almost popping out of their ghastly sockets, Guizou wanted to both strangle and kiss the person who decided this pricing.
Wu Tian did not know, unaware of whether Guizou was happy or mad.
"Is that bad? Is it a scam?"
Blinking a few times, Guizou glared at the brat. "Bad? Bad~?! Bad~~?? In what way? Three coppers for something much rarer than an herb valued at ten golds which also happens to be even rarer and valuable? One should cost a couple silvers, another should cost nearly two hundred silvers! Even if the Purple Foundation Herb is a complete scam, the value of this Yin Flower gives us some leeway! Buy it! Buy it now!"

"Alright!" Sweating from the aggressive master floating near him, Wu Tian rushed to the closest staff member.
"Excuse me, I would like to buy a Yin- I mean, the Ten Petals... something."
Pondering for a moment, the man in a black suit asked to see which one. After a few moments, the man nodded. "No problem, please wait a moment as I go fetch it."
After which, they watched the man carefully examine one of the wooden tables, taking out the protective glass panel. But, the moment he did, three men jumped at the unprotected herbs and flowers grown in that same table.
However, just as their fingertips were about to enter the table's cut-in part, the black suited man flickered. He moved extremely fast, his left arm grabbing and smashing the head of the only man on his left down to the floor with a simple slap. Just as it happened, his right leg swept the closest man on his right and broke his two legs on the spot, almost severing them. The last one was so close, but still not close enough. His dangerously close fingers were seen snapping backward as a left palm came from afar. Its momentum flowed with wind pressure, next breaking the man's wrist.
Trying to take his right arm away, the man then lived through darkness as a right leg flexibly crashed into his nape. His eyes rolled back while his throat fell onto the wooden table's side, almost severing an artery while still blocking his windpipe.
Ignoring everything as if it was a common occurrence, the staff member readjusted his still clean black suit while taking out a Yin Flower, followed by putting back the glass panel back on after using it to kick away the last man's head.
"Careful kid. This guy is a Warrior. Or at least, he practices decent speed methods. You can't see that kind of speed and precision from just any random Mortal."
Wu Tian nodded, though he already knew. He was not confident in dealing with that man himself. If it was only speed, it would be one thing. But this man used wind pressure from a simple palm to break bones and crush flesh. Wu Tian was not capable of doing any of that with his current strength. Just the weight behind this man's strike would be enough to obliterate his body under ten breaths of time.
This also shocked him that a random employee of a random shop might be much stronger than anyone in the entire territory. Even the City Lord and beast hidden inside the Forbidden Forest may not be this man's match.

Noticing Wu Tian's gaze, Guizou sneered. "Don't you worry. It's just a Warrior. Wait until you become one! From my memories, wasn't your clan's founder a Warrior too? Unfortunately, he could only become a Great Warrior, so he was useless to me at the time."
Raising a brow, Wu Tian regained his composure. "Great Warrior? What does it mean? Is he unparalleled at the Warrior Realm?"
"Good question. A Great Warrior is an entity at the Warrior Realm's peak. Meaning a nine thousand pounds Warrior."
As Wu Tian pondered for a few moments, the staff member came back. He did not talk much, asking to see the money. Luckily, Wu Tian had some coppers on him. Some coppers that he found. Found in the pockets of other people as they walked along the way. He also had some more from the young lady he killed back then. There also were the corpses of travelers and such he found during his cultivation.
"Here you go." Seeing the man count the three coppers in front of him, Wu Tian felt embarrassed. I've got the money, paid you, but still have to pretend? It's just three coppers anyway, how do you make a profit with this?
"All good! Thank you for your purchase customer, here is a wooden box for preservation."
"Thank you sir."
The box probably cost much more.
"If there isn't anything else, I will be back to my duties. Have a nice day miser customer."
Flashing a surprised look, Wu Tian asked to be certain. "Miser? Sir, did you call me-"
"Mister! I said mister! Please don't put words into my mouth, sir. Now, I have things to do." Seeing him leave, Wu Tian raised a brow in suspicion. But he had other matters to attend to as well.
"Master, is the small box enough to protect it?" Guizou looked for a moment before remembering something. "Don't mind it. We don't need it to be in perfect shape anyway. Maybe you could put it in the pendant." Trying it as he spoke, Guizou attempted to suck the flower into the pendant without much success.
"Yeah, unless it's a soul related plant, it probably won't work. We'll need a space ring at some point."
"By the way..." Asking as he walked to the exit, Wu Tian was curious about something. "You said that you were a Great Emperor before, right? You mentioned it a few times when I was in the cave."
Nodding, Guizou did not contradict him, insinuating for Wu Tian to continue.
"Then, were you an Emperor, or at a realm of cultivation with the word emperor in it?"
Thinking for a bit, Guizou decided to be firm. "I was both. But you are too weak to know about such things. You will feel too insignificant and might lose yourself. Just focus on reaching the Mortal Land's peak and then we'll talk about the Fairy Land. There are many years of bitter cultivation ahead of you."
"Anyway, now that we have the middle grade Yin Flower, we still need the low and high grade ones." Just as his voice faded, Wu Tian's neck almost severed itself from how fast he snapped at Guizou. "We still need more? Why do you need the low grade one if we have the middle grade flower?"
"What do you know? We have to start at the beginning and finish at the end. You can't take shortcuts and must stay precise with this method. I need you to consume this Purple Star Pill, which needs a low grade Yin Flower. You can't use a better one for something so intricate. Also, might as well be smart and keep this one for the Blue Star Pill. You see, to breakthrough and have the best foundation you have to..."
"To..."
Still waiting for him to finish, Wu Tian gazed around, wondering what he was thinking about. "To? Master? To what?"
"Just shut up one second. I'm wondering which path to take is best. I need you to use two different methods for the Warrior Realm. The [Ten Paths Method] and the [Spiritual Body Refining Method]. But which to take first? Logically the first one is mandatory for the future and should be taken prior. But what if your body can't take it? No, never mind. It should be fine. Wait, ah maybe this. Yes, I think I got a better plan."
Coughing a few times, Guizou cleared his throat while putting on a swindler's attitude. "Kid! Actually, I decided to make you breakthrough! Aren't you happy?"
Pretending not to see Wu Tian's twitching eyelids, Guizou followed through. "Be ready to learn the unfathomable [Spiritual Body Refining Method]! All you have to do is gather Qi and-"
"Are you alright? Why are you vomiting blood? Why are you taking a stance? Are you trying to punch me you ungratefu- wow! Stop that!"

Homecoming | A Chronicles of Ascension Story
When Jethen was captured by slavers, his childhood was torn from him and left shattered half a world away. When he finds himself back home decades later, by methods he does not fully understand, he finds that the life he has lived has changed him far more than he knew. In a home he no longer knows. Places and people at the same time familiar and foreign, he must decide - stay and help with his parent's business, or return to the land that remade him and the family he made there. --------- Homecoming started as just a short story to break an episode of writers block. It has since morphed well beyond that into a novel in it's own right, and may well end up with a sequel. The writing of Homecoming became a bit of a self induced challenge to improve my initial, first brush, writing quality. Each chapter was written raw, given a once over read and edit, and then posted. In this way I am forcing myself to write better from the start. I do hope you enjoy the story and will leave a comment or review, and if you see an issue, feel free to let me know as well. I know it is not nearly perfect, and it will get a full and proper edit once I am done. Never hurts to fix things along the way though. As an additional note. The story has undergone a structural rework and has been reposted in an updated structure and sequence of chapters. If you have read this story already, I invite you to do so again in this new structure.

Crossroads
On the continent of Khaan, a peculiar boy escapes from his hidden village to find a land to call home. Suppressed ambitions are unveiled as a head-strong princess defies the emperor. New kingdoms expand as the old decay. This is a story of those who lived in the times of change. Dear Reader, Thank you for stopping by! This is my first attempt at writing something of more substantial length and would be incredibly grateful to receive feedback and advice. The plan is to post at least a chapter a week and more if I find time. Also, in order to not disappoint any expectations; the story plays in a fictional world reminiscent of the real world 17th to 19th century with some supernatural elements, but no obvious magic or game-like system.
