《The Third Word》Chapter 97

I fell down. My legs couldn't take it. The medics and cops started rushing around in front of my eyes, but I could not fix my eyes on anything. Even though I was looking at something, it all appeared blurry.
In the periphery of my vision, I could see something move in the air, as if motioning me towards itself. When I looked properly, it was Edwin, calling for me.
The medics had surrounded him, but he insisted on speaking to me before he was taken outside.
I scrambled somehow across the pool of blood and the dead body of Howard Miler. It was hard to not look at his body and feel like puking. I had never thought someone would die in front of me. But I was surprised I did not get an anxiety attack.
"Gwen." Blood seeped out of Edwin's mouth. His eyelids were heavy. He looked like he didn't try hard to stay awake. He looked so tired. He placed his hand on my lap as I sat beside him.
I softly slipped my hand into his palm and he held on tight. It seemed he was using all the strength left in his body to hold on tight, to not let go.
"I'm sorry." He said," And thanks. I might have...lived my best days...with you."
Don't... don't say something that will make me miss you. It's breaking my heart. But why?
"Aren't you going to...speak to me?" He asked and his signature smirk appeared on his pale face.
"Don't smirk." I said bitterly. Maybe, he understood it was my way of saying 'Don't die.' He coughed, in the process of laughing at what I said.
"I did many bad things." He said and that's when it hit me. He was saying goodbye. I thought a jerk like him wouldn't die that easily. I thought he'd still have the will to live and he'll be in and out of the hospital in just ten days all fit and fine and trouble me in school but I'd not hate it.

"No..." I said softly.
"I need to make it up to you." He said.
"I said No!" I shouted and he just smiled.
"You did say you hated me. What's this now?" He glanced at my hand trembling in his.
I pity you. If anything, you didn't deserve to die...
"Here's my last...gift...to you." He pulled out his phone with great difficulty, and placed in on my palm. I noticed the voice recorder in his phone was turned on and had recorded everything.
I then figured why Edwin had started off by blaming his dad when he showed up with the gun. Edwin Miler...gave me the evidence to get justice for Ethan.
"You ask-- asked me to help my brother...I would-- I would do anything you wanted." Tears trickled down his cheeks.
I didn't even know what to say. I was exhausted emotionally. I hadn't ever experienced the amount of emotions I felt that day.
"His pulse is going down! Where's the stretcher?!" A medic shouted.
Edwin's chest heaved up and down in a quick motion.
"E-Edwin..."
"You must bring justice to Ethan...and me." He coughed," And please...don't hate me anymore..." with those words, his grip loosened and his lifeless arm slipped off my lap.
"Check the pulse!"
"Quick! Get the stretcher. He might still have a chance."
"He's not breathing..."
"He's dead."
I gripped the phone tightly in my hand and mustered up to get to my feet.
I walked out of the godown aimlessly, not knowing where to go, who to go to.

WISH MOUNTAIN
I could give you a typical synopsis that you'll gloss over...or I could tell you the essence of what the story will be. Still with me? Great! Let's get to it... WISH MOUNTAIN is inspired by fairy tales and, in a way, animated Disney movies. The biggest inspiration of them all is Beauty and the Beast. Why? Because I love it and hate it at the same time. The thing I hate about the movie is how the villain, Gaston, never got a chance for redemption. The movie was all about what is on the inside that counts, right? Beast went from bad-to-good because Belle learned to love and care about him. Was Gaston not worth that same chance for redemption? Sure he was a bad person, but so bad that he couldn't also undergo the same kind of change for the better? It was this question that got me thinking... what would Gaston's redemption look like? What kind of story would that be? From this nugget an entire epic story unfolded that has both outgrown, but has never forgotten, that original inspiration. So what can you expect? In essence: something like an epic, adult-orientated Disney story, which is gloves-off when it comes to violence and character trauma. I'll be doing my best to write a story that is as close to a classic adventure fairy tale with real stakes and meaningful characters as I can. The story begins with two orphans; Amaryllis and Chicory, who are whisked away to the magical WISH MOUNTAIN, and are faced with fending for themselves all alone. This is a HUGE story that will take YEARS for me to finish. If you're ready for a journey to Wish Mountain, then Once Upon a Time begins with Chapter 1...

Cold Space, a LITRPG space story.
A Litrpg story that takes place in the future. Mankind has conquered the solar system at least digitally, and with 2 billion players in the game there are a lot of options for players. The only thing the Mc wants is to deal with the person who was instrumental in getting him banned from the game a year ago. He might have a chance if he can survive a out of control spaceship about to crash on an asteroid, a crazy pirate that wants him dead and a abandoned Russian secret base. Pretty rough for your first log in to the game.

Polly and Drake
Drake has been searching for a job as a personal guard, but wherever he turns, he is kicked out without fail. It's not that he's terrible with weapons, or inattentive. It could be because of his obvious racial heritage. Or because of Polly. With his funds dwindling, the only remaining option is to become one of the Cursed: poor souls that work for the Dragoneye Guild. In other lands, they may be called adventurers, saviors or even heroes, but not in the White Desert. Here, they are shunned and ignored. Depraved people who forsook their humanity for money and fame. With this choice, Drake may not only fall from grace, but also become one of only a few thousands capable of unearthing the secrets of ancient times. If he could get this guardsman notion out of his head. May contain gore, violence, profanity and traumatising content. Taking another shoot at this writing business. I write for fun and when I have time. There is no plan. The story may change drastically from what it starts out - or not. We'll see what happens. Currently, I'm aiming for a Slice of Life with LitRPG elements at a later time.

Contact Through Voided Lenses
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Edit: Fixed some inaccuracies in the synopsis. The void is a vast unexplored ocean filled with various wonders and dangers all waiting to be explored by those brave enough to travel and record. Many souls do find themselves brave enough to face the vast distances, the various risks to personal safety and do the hundreds of task required on a craft. However, at times the void itself can be boring with absolutely nothing to do but as time pass and more and better technology is reached, things got better. The various trips got faster, communications became faster than light and you can be home to see your loved ones after only months now. Through the various planets whether rocky or gaseous, the various stars whether small or giant, the various systems both eerily similar or completely alien. As part of an expeditionary scientific exploratory survey craft, one could see that the void offers no reprieve from all the discoveries and wonders. At times, it can feel empty and silent where no soul can hear you scream and at others it can be overwhelming with sudden phenomenon that can overwhelm the brightest of minds. The void itself is a truly fascinating ocean where one must chart the various islands or drown in its deadly tidal waves. But the question still remained no matter how you try to hide it in of itself… is there truly other intelligent life out there? Are we alone in this ocean? Those very questions still haunt the minds of those on the crafts themselves as they brace for every jump ready for the unknown and the known. Many would try to explain that yes there is other intelligent life out there whilst other still say no after 2 centuries of continuous flight out of the home system. Still, those are questions that bury deep in the minds of the crew and those at home as the voidcraft jumps to a system with a single yellow star orbited by 8 other planets with one crowning blue jewel being the 3rd closest with its 5 oceans and 7 continents, a planet called Dirt which is inhabited by a primitive species called Humanity. Hello, author here and this is my newest dive into writing particularly for the Writathon currently in progress being my first one. I hope you give me story a try but in case you still want more information on what you’re getting into, below are some pointers about the story itself. First Contact: CTVL is a story about a first contact scenario between an advanced alien civilization and a slightly more advanced modern day humanity on their planet called Dirt. Characters: The story will take place mainly on the perspective of the alien visitors themselves though there will be human POV characters who will show how the rest of humanity react through media and forums. Action: It won’t be an actual alien invasion but you have to see for yourself how well first contact went. Sci-Fi: I will be very forward here, I WILL bend the rules of physics in order to add in parts of the plot and there WILL be parts that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Theme: It will be a brooding story talking about the futility of pe… Just kidding, it’s mostly wholesome stuff to be honest here. Alien: The aliens themselves will… actually why should I tell you, you have to go and read it to find out what the aliens are though I will draw a few things here and there to aid in the process. Extra tidbit: If you are a grammar nazi or someone who really wants a realistic scifi story... this story is probably not for you at all. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I can say before I spoil something major of the plot itself, the story is slice of life so make sure that type of story is what you like because I am terrible with anything else as I found out, anyways, have a good time everyone and good luck to the other Writathon participants.
