《His Solace (Book 3) On Hold》Chapter Forty - Six

You idiot, you almost told her you her! That inner voice chattered in Lee's head, causing him to groan loudly as he turned away from his phone and back to the tv. What in the world was he thinking? He hadn't even known her long enough to love her, but of course that little tidbit didn't matter, the idiot had already proposed to her the first night he had met her!

He swallowed hardly, thinking back on that night. If Simone knew the actual truth about that late night proposal, she'd freak out and leave him for good - he had no doubt about it. But could he actually tell her what had really happened that night? It had taken so long to finally convince her to give him a chance..the truth would completely shatter her trust in him. He shook his head. He couldn't. He was a coward after all.

All it had taken was a few drinks, his need to fill the somewhat lonely void in his heart that she had managed to soothe, and that stupid ring - but not just stupid ring - an engagement ring.

Lee had lied about the whole letting her pick the ring out. Truth is, it had been his great grandmother's ring that she had given to him years before, so when the time had come for him to find the right woman, it would be hers.

He hadn't been sure what had possessed him to take the blasted thing out of his dresser drawer the night of the concert, after having neglected it for so long, but he had an itching feeling that he needed to bring it with him that night. He had never planned on actually proposing to anyone - but it happened.

He ran a hand over his head. He wanted to be honest with Simone about the fact that it wasn't just any ring she was carrying around - that he had actually meant every word he had said on that night, and how serious he had been about that proposal - but they had gotten so far, and she was finally letting go of her doubt about their relationship. He couldn't just go and blurt out that the ring was his grandmothers', a family heirloom, she'd throw the ring at his face and never look back!

Or at least that was worst case scenario in his mind.

He sighed heavily, sinking back into the couch cushion.

But that was only one of his many problems. The other one was Jason, the guy that she worked with. Just thinking about him made his blood boil. Lee hated the fact that he was so far away going on tours with the band, while Simone was at her apartment states away from him and the fact that Jason knew where she lived irked him endlessly. He knew that Simone wouldn't lie to him if Jason had tried anything else today, but he also knew that she would try to down play it in order for him not to worry too much.

It was days like this when he wished he wasn't famous. It would've made it a heck of a lot easier to just go up to Jason and beat some sense into him, but since he was famous after all, it would only cause problems for Simone and the band, and he couldn't be so careless and do that to any of them.

He rubbed the side of his chin. Maybe he could pay someone else to do it..he thought momentarily before shaking the idea away, just as Thomas lifted his head from the other couch, frowning as he continued to play a game on his phone. "What's wrong with you?" He asked.

"Not now." Lee muttered.

Thomas rolled his eyes and went back to his game. "I know that look," Thomas said smugly, Lee shot him an annoyed glance.

"And what look would that be, Thomas?"

Thomas smirked as he continued to punch away at his phone screen. "Just that it looks like someone has it bad," he shrugged, "but what I don't get is why you're so stressed out. If it's about Simone, your so called friend that you're always with, then why don't you just ask her out. It's obvious you like her."

Lee thought about his response for a second, "I know you can talk a lot, and I really know it's not in my best interest to tell you this, but she and I are dating." He stated, "but that's not what i'm worried about."

Thomas sat up from the couch. "Wow." He said.

"Wow," Lee replied, "That's it?"

Thomas nodded. "Yeah." he said, before pointing at him. "But what are you so worried about?"

"It's complicated." He stated. He wasn't going to say that Thomas wouldn't understand, because the guy had actually been in a similar situation when Natalie's husband had tried to hurt her for trying to get a divorce, although Jason hadn't tried to hurt Simone, he was just being a creep - but more or less a stalker.

"Come on, nothing can be that complicated for you." He laughed, "You usually have an answer for everything."

"Yeah, well, not this time."

Thomas smiled. "Well, at least try to pretend like you have an answer. I don't like seeing you all out of sorts. That's usually my area of expertise."

Lee laughed a little. "Don't worry, I'll figure something out."

Thomas grinned as the hotel door opened and the other guys walked in. "You always do." Thomas told him quietly, before greeting Jack and Dane.

Lee sat back against the couch and sighed.

He'd figure something out. He usually always did.
