《His Solace (Book 3) On Hold》Chapter Twenty - Nine

If I was being honest with myself, I was still in the process of getting to know Lee. With each and every second that I spent with him, I always learned something new about him that I hadn't known before. Like the way he always seemed to smirk at me whenever he knew I was embarrassed, he never seemed to do that with his fans.
If anything, I had never known that Lee could even smirk until I met him. It was like he enjoyed watching me squirm, almost as if he enjoyed teasing me. Another thing I had noticed was that, even though Lee was quiet and polite whenever he was around other people like Victoria and Jason, the moment that one of his friends or even his cousin got around him, he turned into a completely different person. His sudden mood changes always threw me for a loop, it was crazy seeing the different sides of him when the media only portrayed him as one thing - cool, calm, and collected.
Although, if the news reporters could see him now..they'd be in for a surprise.
I watched quietly as Lee's pale fingers tightened around his water glass, his dark eyes focused on the man seated across from us who was currently occupying our table.
"You would think that I have a tracker on the back of my head or something." Lee said rather blandly as he stared hardly at the man who was currently sitting in front of us, munching loudly on a piece of toast that was covered in blueberry jam like he hadn't seen food in years. I tried to hold back my laughter as the man looked up from his food and smiled over at Lee innocently.
I guess I should clear some things up first. After Lee had stopped by my house so that I could take a shower and get a change of clothes, we had decided to go and grab some breakfast at a local cafe when we had run into someone we both hadn't expected to see so early in the morning, much less sitting at our table without a word of warning.
Thomas slurped down some more of his orange juice before going back to his toast. When he had finished, he picked up another piece of toast. "I guess it's just our lucky day, buddy," he said cheekily, winking at me, "I get to spend the morning with you two guys. This is like the best day ever for me." He waved his arm around, a piece of jelly flying across the table. "My bad." He said, reaching to wipe his mess up with a napkin.
Lee's left eye twitched. "Not that I don't enjoy your company, but where's your wife?" Lee questioned, slightly aggravated, "and would you stop chewing so loudly? I promise you don't have any home training." Lee said, holding out a napkin for him to take to wipe the crumbs off of his face.

Thomas snatched it away. I watched as Thomas gave Lee a mock smile as he wiped the corners of his mouth. "If you must know, she's at her parents house."
"and you aren't with her because?"
He rolled his eyes, "because, we don't have to be joined at the hip 24/7."
Lee almost snorted, but stopped himself. "Uh, yeah you do. You need someone to chaperone you around the clock." He told him, " I bet just the thought of you being out here roaming the streets on your own is giving her a panic attack right now." he said, before adding to the side, "I know I would be having one."
"You know what, Lee, I don't appreciate your sarcasm." Thomas pointed his toast at him.
"It wasn't sarcasm, it was the truth." He replied back.
Thomas took another bite of his toast. "This is why I don't call you a lot." He told him, before looking over at me. "So, Simone, how have you been?"
I glanced over at the man and smiled. I liked Thomas. "I've been good. I hope everything's been good with you and your family."
Thomas smiled. "Yeah, they're peachy. You should come and visit sometime."
"Thomas." Lee said.
Thomas turned his eyes to him. "What? I'm just inviting her over. What's wrong with that?"
"I don't want anyone else knowing about Simone and I yet. We're still taking things slow."
Thomas eyed me for a moment. "How do you feel about that, Simone?"
"I was, uh, actually the one that suggested it." I replied sheepishly. "I don't mean anything bad by it, we are still kind of-" I looked to Lee, not knowing whether or not I could tell Thomas that we were trying to work towards a relationship. He must've known where I was going, because he sighed.
"Look, Thomas. Simone and I are still in the dating phase, we aren't really official or anything yet, and we just don't want everyone and the media turning it into something that it's not." He said honestly, "So if you don't mind, could you keep me seeing Simone a secret from the guys?"
Thomas frowned. "You know I suck with secrets, Lee." He almost wined.
"Thomas."
Thomas sighed in defeat. "Okay, fine. I won't tell anyone."
"Thank you," Lee told him.
Thomas grinned. "No problem. I just can't believe that you're actually dating. When the guys do find out they're going to be shocked." He nodded towards me. "Don't let Lee bully you around too much. He has this thing about always wanting to be right."
"That's only when i'm around you," Lee said, "and most of the time I am right."
"See this is what I was talking about." Thomas pointed out. "Such a tyrant."

When we pulled up to my job, I unbuckled my seatbelt. Lee turned to me. "Do you want me to walk you in?"
I thought about it for a second, but it wouldn't make sense for him to get out and walk me four feet to the door and then back to his car. I shook my head. "No, it's fine. I can go on my own." I told him, grabbing my purse. "Thanks for the ride, and breakfast."
Lee smiled. "It's nothing. Call me later after you get home."
"I will." I told him, still making no move to leave.
Lee laughed. "You don't want to leave do you?"
I grinned sheepishly. "Not really, but I know I need to. I'll call you later, okay?"
"Okay." Lee replied, "Talk to you later. Bye, Simone." He called as I got out of the car and turned to wave back once more.
"Bye."
I watched as he put the car in drive, sending me a quick wave as he pulled out of the parking lot, leaving me standing by the front of the building alone. I let out a deep breath and turned around and began walking towards the front door. As soon as I walked through the door, cool air hit my skin, and I shivered slightly.
"Hey, Simone. I didn't know you were coming in today." Jason popped out of nowhere, smiling. I stopped walking and turned to him. He was wearing those khaki pants again, with a red checkered shirt, and of course, a cup of coffee situated in his hands. He stared down at me, waiting for me to reply. I pushed a piece of hair behind my ear as I gave a small smile back.
"Yeah, the boss let me know that I didn't have to come in until this afternoon."
"Oh, that's great. Wish he would've called me. I could've used a few extra hours of sleep." He grinned. "So there's something I wanted to ask you."
"You know the Christmas party is coming up and everything, right?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I'm the one making the flyers for it." I told him.
He nodded. "So yeah, I was wondering if you wanted to, I don't know, go with me?"
I inwardly sighed. Even though I had told Jason that I was seeing someone, and he had even seen Lee, he was still trying to go down this route. "I'm sorry, Jason, I already have a date." I said honestly.
His smile flattered, before it was replaced by an even bigger one. "Oh, silly me. Boyfriend, right?" He asked.
"Um, yeah." I answered.
"Must have been the guy that came and ate lunch with you yesterday, huh?" He asked, fishing for answers. I glanced down at my watch.
"Hey, sorry to cut this short, but I should really get up to my floor and clock in." I rushed out, "You know, don't want to get in trouble or anything." I said, walking in the opposite direction, towards the elevator.
Jason lifted his free hand, waving at me. "No problem. I'll see you around, yeah?" He called loudly as I entered the elevator, the sound of the elevator doors closing shut the only answer to his question.

When I got to my floor and had clocked in, I walked over to my cubicle and sat down. Victoria noticed me, and came around. "Hey, good afternoon. How was your night?" She asked, smiling before she noticed the look on my face. "Hey, what's up with you?"
I shook my head. "Nothing, I'm just a little sleepy." I lied.
Victoria nodded. "Okay, well, I was just going to let you know that Jason was asking about you this morning." She told me.
I looked at her dumbly. "What for?"
"He had came up here looking for you earlier this morning, and I told him that you weren't coming into work until later." She said. "I still don't like that guy. He needs to just give up and move on with his life. I don't know why he's so concerned with your every move." She said, rearranging some files on her desk.
I glanced up from my computer. "When did he ask about me?" I asked.
"About three hours ago. Why?" She said, looking up from her papers, her green eyes watching me.
"Oh, nothing. I was just wondering is all." I said, "So is there anything you need me to do before you go to lunch since i'm here now?"
Victoria handed me the stack of paper she had been looking through. "Yes. If you don't mind, can you organzine these for me while I run downstairs and get a sandwich?"
I nodded. "Yeah, no problem."
Victoria grabbed her wallet. "Need anything?"
I shook my head, "No thanks." I replied as she walked out of the cubicle and headed towards the elevator. I turned back around to my desk, a knot in my stomach as I thought back on Jason. Maybe I was just stressing out for no reason, I told myself. Jason had never made me feel uncomfortable in the past, so why was I so worried?
I was just being paranoid, I said to myself as I began sorting the papers in front of me. I would just focus on my work and go home and think about everything later.
Nothing was wrong, I kept telling myself, I was just being paranoid.
