《His Solace (Book 3) On Hold》Chapter Seventeen

After about thirty minutes of trying to decide where we wanted to eat, we ended up settling on a fast food restaurant called, 'Berny's Burgers and things' They were pretty popular. It had always been the best place to go if you weren't sure about what you wanted to eat. You could either get a burger or things - those things usually being hotdogs, nachos, friend pickles, and the list goes on - the place was basically like a big football concession stand.

I dipped my second chip into the hot nacho cheese, lifting it up to my mouth as I took a small bite. I grinned when I saw Lee take another bite of his burger. He noticed me watching and stopped chewing.

"What?" He asked curiously, "Do I have ketchup on my face or something?"

I shook my head in amusement. "No, it's not that. It's just that I didn't really realize how much you could eat. The first time we ate out, you didn't eat that much, but tonight," I said, pointing to the burger in his hand and then to the side of nachos and texas toast sitting out in front of him, "I think you've ordered the whole menu." I deadpanned. "I guess I pegged you as a health junkie."

Lee caught me by surprise when he almost snorted, trying to keep his laughter back. "Me?" He said almost in disbelief, "A health junkie? Please." He smiled, "If anything, i'm probably the worse person to take healthy eating advice from. I'm a rockstar. I'm on the road majority of the time, I'm lucky if I can even get a good home cooked meal twice a month." He said, wiping the side of his mouth and sitting down his burger. "Kaitlyn is the only one that actually cooks nowadays, the other guys don't do it too much, and i'm sad to say that I'm only good at baking." He grinned, "I have a bit of a sweet tooth if you didn't already know."

"Okay, I didn't know that that is actually new news to me." I said honestly, "and Kaitlyn? That's the woman that Jack married last year, right?" I asked. I had remembered seeing the headlines when Jack had finally gotten hitched. It had been such a sudden thing, but they seemed happy.

Lee nodded. "Yeah, she's a sweet woman. I think being around the band has pulled her out of her shell too. She's really happy and a big help."

I nodded. "She seems nice from what I've read about her. Pretty too."

"You're pretty." Lee said simply.

"Thanks..but I wasn't talking about me." I giggled nervously. Lee shrugged.

"I know." He said wiping his mouth with the side of his napkin. "I know this is off subject, but can I ask you a question?"

I sat down my drink. "Yeah, of course, what's wrong?"

"That guy I saw you with at the fair.." he trailed, almost as if he was waiting for me to finish for him.

"Jason," I supplied.

"Jason," Lee repeated back as if he was trying to see if his mouth liked the name. "Who was he? A friend?"

"Yeah, I guess you could call us that, but that was the first time we really hung out, or talked. He works at the same building that I work at but in a different department."

"Hmm." Was all Lee said.

"Hmm?" I asked, "I feel like there's more you want to say."

He smiled. "Just testing the waters is all." He replied back, taking a look at his phone as it began to ring. He let out a sigh when he noticed the name that popped up on his screen. He shot his eyes to me as if saying sorry as he lifted the phone to his ear.

"Hello." He answered slightly aggravated. He sat quietly for awhile not saying anything back, before he spoke up a moment later. "No, it's fine. No really, I'll do it. Yeah - I understand," he replied slowly, "I'll meet you there in a few and pick her up." He said, ending the phone call and placing it back down onto the table. "Sorry." He said.

I shook my head. "It's no problem." I replied, "Is everything alright."

Lee ate the rest of his food. "Yeah, everything's fine. It was just one of my friends calling, he and his wife have to catch a last minute flight to Arizona and they needed someone to watch their baby."

I raised an eyebrow. "And you're okay with that? You can handle a baby."

Lee actually laughed. "It wouldn't be the first time. You would think I was the baby's godparent or something, considering how much I watch her."

"You're not?"

He shook his hand. "No, Dane my other friend who is in the band with us is." He admitted. "An unlikely pair if I might add, but he's good with her. But anyways, I told him I'd meet him within the next two hours. They're gonna meet me halfway. I hate to cut our dat- time hanging out together short," he caught himself, "but I really have to go and meet them. I can take you home first though." He said standing up from the table.

I stood up with him, frowning. "My house is thirty minutes back in the other direction." I said, "If it's easier for me to just ride along with you, I can. I don't mind if you don't."

Lee looked at me surprised. "Really? You don't mind coming?"

I gave a smile, even though everything on the inside of me was screaming. "Yeah, let's go." I said heading towards the door of the restaurant and towards Lee's car.

After around an hour we pulled up to the front of a hotel, parking right outside. Lee sent a text on his phone and within five minutes a very handsome man stepped through the entrance, followed by a beautiful woman with short black hair, holding a baby. When they noticed Lee's car, they headed in our direction. Lee opened his door and I opened mine, climbing out.

"Man, you're such a life savior!" The man shouted, pulling Lee into a hug and slapping his back.

"It's no problem. I enjoy spending time with the little nugget." He replied back as the man let him go. The woman that had been holding the baby laughed.

"You don't have to lie, Lee, we know you're still uncomfortable around babies, but we appreciate your help last minute." She smiled, handing over the baby, her eyes finally meeting mine.

"You brought a friend?" She asked surprised. The man beside her turned his attention at that moment until his eyes landed on me. I waved awkwardly.

"Um, Hi?" I said a little unsurely feeling my anxiety getting the best of me.

Lee motioned for me to come to his side and I did. "Guys, this is my friend, Simone. She's been showing me around since I've been down here."

The woman nodded and stuck out her hand. "Well, this is surprising." She admitted. "But any friend of Lee's is a friend of ours. I'm Natalie, it's nice to meet you, Simone." I shook her hand.

"Nice to meet you too."

"And I'm Thomas." The man beside her grinned widely, shaking my hand. I felt a blush rise to my cheeks. Here I was standing beside two equally famous guys from a band that I adored and one of their wives. I could scream, but I wouldn't.

"Would you look at that, you've scared the poor girl." I heard Natalie joke snapping me out of my thoughts.

Thomas chuckled. "Whatever. I seem to have that certain affect on all the women."

"If you mean scaring them into shock, then yes, you do have that affect on the women." Lee commented grabbing the babies bag from Thomas. I pulled my hand back embarrassedly just as Thomas stuck his tongue out.

"You're both just jealous." He said, looking back to his wife. "Well, let's get going. The sooner we get there the sooner we can leave."

"How long will you be gone?" Lee questioned, still holding the baby in one arm.

Thomas shrugged. "Hopefully one day at the max, the most two."

Lee nodded. "Okay. Have fun." He said, his voice sounding the exact opposite.

Thomas narrowed his eyes at him. "You know good and well that I plan to." He said seriously. Natalie let out a laugh, "Both of you stop playing around. It's time to get going. Bye Lee, bye my little baby," she cooed down at the sleeping child, "and bye Simone, hope to see you when we return." She waved. I waved back and watched as they headed to their own car and were off, leaving them in the dark parking lot.

I pulled at my shirt. "He wasn't like I was expecting."

"And that would be?" Lee eyed me as they headed back to his car.

"Goofy." I said, turning to him. "Is he always like that."

Lee put in the car seat and then the baby. "Worse." He said simply, strapping Summer in.

"She's so pretty." I whispered peering over his shoulder.

"Yeah, she's like a little angel." He agreed before walking over to my side of the car and opening my door. I slid into the car.

"Thanks." I said, buckling myself in. Lee shut the door and headed back around to his side and started the car back home.

"So what do you plan on doing tomorrow since you have the baby?" I asked, wondering if he was going to have to cancel anything.

"Nothing important. I'll probably just stay at the apartment with Summer and we'll watch movies all day or something." He said, his lip twitching upwards, "Why, do you want to join?" He asked.

My cheeks grew hot. "Ah, no, I have to work tomorrow." I admitted, "but I'm sure you two will have fun."

"What time do you get off of work?"

I thought for a second. "I go in at eight and get off around four or five." I replied.

"If you're not too tired after work you should swing by. I'd enjoy your company." He said simply.

I looked down at my fingers currently laying against my lap. "I'll..I'll think about it."

Lee only smiled. "Good."
