"Don't tell me you've never dreamed about having a famous guy's baby before." Victoria sighed dreamily as she played with the roll on her lunch plate. She tore off a small piece and stuck it into her mouth. "Just think about it, my best friend..famous." She said to herself before pointing her fork in my direction. "Forget about Jason, sure he's hot, but Lee is famous and hot. He just has so much going for him, Simone."

I fought the urge to throw my tuna sandwich at her perfectly made up face.

I sat my sandwich down onto my plate.

"Victoria, I am not going to try and contact Lee. For all we know he was just being dramatic. He knows nothing about me, my life, my interests. So why in the world would he actually want to be married to me?" I went on, "What happened last night was a silly mistake and I'd just like to forget about it, okay?" I sent a tight smile in her direction.

She pouted. "Fine." She tucked a piece of red hair behind her ear and shoved a spoonful of peas into her mouth.

We sat in silence for a solid two minutes before Victoria broke it.

"But I think you should at least consider it. Who knows-"

I shot her a glare. She held her hands up in defense.

"Okay, shutting up now."

She said, finishing the rest of her food before standing up. She picked up her plate.

"I'm gonna go throw my plate away and go talk to Helena up front about the Forrow's Christmas party. I'll be back in a few."

I nodded and went back to my food.

At last, I could sit in peace and not have to think about anything for a few minutes. I took a sip of my coke and sighed as I placed the can back against the table.

A hand tapped my shoulder, causing me to turn around.

"Hey, I thought-" The words got caught in my throat as I stared up at Jason. His chocolate colored eyes were watching me curiously as I tried to close my mouth.

He wore a long sleeved red shirt today, with a pair of khaki pants. He smiled at me, his white teeth in full view.

"You thought what?" He asked.

I quickly shut my mouth before opening it once more. "I- I thought you were my friend Victoria." I stuttered.

He nodded. "The red head you're always with?"

I managed a nod back. "Yeah."

"Well, I hope I didn't disappoint." He let out a chuckle before nodding to the seat next to me. "Mind if I sit with you for a bit? All of the other tables are either full or filled with people I don't exactly know, and you were kind of the only other familiar face in here." He smiled again. "I hope you don't mind."

I quickly shook my head, practically pulling out his chair for him and then inwardly kicking myself for being so weird.

He laughed awkwardly, taking his seat. "Uh, thanks. Can't say I've ever had a woman pull out a chair for me. It's a first."

I sat back in my chair, my cheeks heating up slightly. I didn't know how to reply to his statement without making things even more awkward, so I stayed silent and went back to eating my sandwich.

Jason propped his head up on one of his hands and stared at me quizzically. "How long have you worked here?" He asked out of the blue.

I stopped eating my sandwich and shifted my eyes in his direction. "A year." I replied quietly.

Something passed through his eyes before quickly disappearing. "I've been here for about four years and I pretty much know most of the people in every department. I even kind of know your friend Victoria," he trailed, "So why come I never see you around that much? Besides from the time you spilled coffee all over me. And the one time we met in the copy room."

I rubbed my hands together. "I don't know. I guess I'm just always busy."

"Is that it?" He asked, a smile curving on his lips. "Or have you been trying to avoid me?"

"Avoid you? What, why would I do that?" I asked nervously.

He laughed. "Calm down, I'm just joking." He leaned his head away from his hand. "I'm just wondering why the two of us never actually got the chance to sit down and just..talk to one another. Every time we've met I've always had to cut our conversations short because I had somewhere to be or you've always ended up rushing off to goodness knows where."

I simply followed his gaze as he continued to inspect me.

"I think the two of us would be good friends. We always seem to run into each other all the time." He replied, "What would you say if I asked you to be my friend?"

I felt the heat rise to my cheeks at that moment. Friend? That wasn't what I wanted to hear, but right now I would practically take anything.

When I didn't reply, an amused look crossed Jason's face. "Am I being too forward?" He asked jokingly.

"No, uh, I think yes," I said quickly, "I mean, I think that it would be cool for us to be friends. You seem like a nice guy."

"Let's shake on it."

He held out his hand, waiting for me to grab it.

I placed my hand in his, his large hand easily covering my own.

"Friends." He said proudly.

I shook his hand back.

"Friends." I replied, albeit a little unsurely.

He pulled his hand back and asked for my phone, typing his number into it before handing it back to me.

"Since we're friends now, it's only normal that we have each other's numbers right?" He held out his phone and let me type my number into it. "Now, we'll be able to contact each other whenever we want. We don't have to wait until we randomly bump into one another anymore."

He put his phone back into his pocket.

"Are you doing anything this Saturday?" He asked after putting his phone back up.

I shook my head. Victoria and I usually hung out together during the weekdays so my weekends were pretty much free.

"No, I'm not doing anything. Why?"

He grinned. "The county fair opened up last week. I'm sure you're aware of it, but since we just became friends and don't know much about each other I think it would be a great idea to spend some time together and get to know one another. What do you say?"

"Yeah, that sounds fun." I agreed.

"Great. I'll pick you up this Saturday at one. Just text me your address." He concluded, looking at his watch. "Well, it's time to get back to the desk. Tell your friend I said, Hi." He waved, walking out of the room.

I let my hand fall limply to my side as he walked away. What the heck just happened? Jason and I were friends?

Seriously?

A cough caught my attention. I shifted my head to my side to see Victoria standing next to me, her arms crossed against her chest. "So, care to tell me what that was about?"

I opened my mouth to form the right words, but honestly I was still finding it hard to believe.

"I think..that Jason and I are friends now. And well, he asked me to go with him to the fair on Saturday."

"And what did you say?" She practically yelled.

"I - I said yes."

Victoria shirked, jumping up and down a little bit. "Oh, this is great." She said, clasping her hands together, before immediately stopping. "Oh wait, I changed my mind. It's a no for me." She decided, putting on a serious face.

I frowned. "What's a no for you?"

"You can't go on a date with Jason Saturday."

I rolled my eyes. "First of all it's not a date, and secondly why can't I go to the fair with him on Saturday? He said that he wanted to be friends anyways."

She clacked her tongue against the roof of her mouth. "Oh, and that too. You can't be friends with him. Matter of fact, did he put his number in your phone?" She looked down at me.

"Yeah, why?" I said looking at my phone.

She picked it up and started tapping on it.

"What are you doing?" I asked confusedly.

"Oh nothing, I'm just blocking his number and deleting it from your contacts. Just give me one second." She waved dismissively.

I snatched my phone back and she yelled.

"Hey, give that back!"

"Not until you tell me why you're acting so weird. Why can't Jason and I be friends? Are you jealous?" I asked incredulously.

She snorted. "You wish. I just don't want you falling in love with him is all." She said simply.

I rubbed my temples. "But weren't you just telling me to go after him a few weeks ago."

"Yeah, but things have changed now."

"And how exactly have they changed?" I said sarcastically.

She folded her arms across her chest. "You've got Lee now."

I almost choked on the air in my lungs. "I do not have Lee." I threw my hands up, "Victoria, have you lost your mind? I told you that I wasn't going to pursue anything with him."

"And I told you that I would keep the same boyfriend for at least two weeks, but you don't still see me with Jeremy, do you?"

"His name is Phillip." I reminded her.

She smirked. "Was Phillip, Simone. Keep up with the program." She turned her eyes back to me. "Anyways, all I'm trying to say is that people usually don't mean anything that they say."

"You're not making any sense." I muttered tiredly.

She rolled her eyes before pointing a finger in my direction. "What I'm trying to say is that you want Lee. It's okay if you stop liking Jason. You're not obligated to keep liking him just because he came first."

"But I do like him."

Victoria patted my head soothingly, pulling me against her chest. "My poor, delusional baby, you don't know any better." She went on, "But it's okay, I'll handle everything. You just sit there and be oblivious. Momma Tori's got you."

I pushed her away and stood up from the table.

"Okay, I'm going back to my desk." I said uncomfortably. "You just go somewhere else, far far away from me until you turn back into your normal crazy self." I stated, grabbing my plate and heading towards the trash can and then back to my desk.
