《Lich God Deidre》Chapter 88 – A Reptilian Goofball

Now we had a little staring contest going on. I shrugged and figured this guy was just hungry too. It slowly came up, much like the drake before. I looked up at it and chuckled nervously. If it was maybe ten times bigger with wings then I’d be running for my life.
As I suspected, the bigger drake was hungry, but he fancied human meat and not whiptail caiman meat. Its jaw strength was strong enough to pierce my torso when it grabbed me and bit down. I screamed out and promptly regretted dropping my guard. I changed the staff to a dagger and used a skill on the weapon for some extra piercing power, then stabbed the shit out of the drake until it let me go. One of its eyes were gouged out and the side of its face was badly damaged.
Doran immediately came to my aid while the big drake fell back a few meters to monitor the situation. Before long, it attacked again, and I understood why it waited when yet another large drake came into the scene. Maybe we were just in a bad position here. I breathed slowly and enveloped my arm a skill enhancement. I chucked the dagger and damaged the new challenger’s leg. On its way back, the blade sliced through the back of the fallen reptile. The one-eyed attacker was hot on my back, but the friendly one intercepted it just in time.
Snarls and hisses, brought the deadened evening to life; they fought viciously and their movements were so wild and alacritous that I couldn’t just join the fray without harming the smaller drake. Eventually, all that clawing and snapping led to the bigger one sinking its fangs into the smaller guy’s neck. I switched Shadowsiphon back to a staff and used Shadowbind to keep the larger drake in place, then smothered his body with Shadowspears.

“Heal that one,” I said.
“I’m sorry, what?!” Doran exclaimed.
“Heal it.” I playfully whispered in his ear. “I’ll help you cook the other ones. Juicy drake meat, man.” I made circles around him like the devil I was. “Don’t you want to know how it tastes? Hmm?”
“I really hate you…” He put a hand over the small drake and after a few seconds, Greater Heal fixed all internal and external wounds.
So, we had a new friend that night that we both had something in common with. Like me, the drake was clearly a cannibal, because it didn’t give a damn about eating its own species. Cue goblin flashbacks. And like Doran, it was ostracized for a trait it couldn’t control – turned out to be an albino monster. That was a first for me. I slowly approached it and touched along its scales. There were obvious variations in the size of its scales. Along its back, legs, and part of its neck were thick, hard-surfaced scales that more looked like plates. Its underbelly, joints, and throat had much smaller scales like a snake, but it was still tough to pierce.
It followed us, or perhaps I should say the drake and I followed Doran. Even with my newfound strength, his survivalist skills were pure gold to someone like me. He found all the best spots to camp, food to eat, knew which water sources to drink from, knew how to prepare various herbs and meats, and could even identify poisonous foods and venomous creatures. The kid was as much a jungle monster as was actual jungle monsters.
We found a decent clearing to camp out for the night. I kept summoning undead and dismissing them back into oblivion for my night practice. Doran cast Mana Shield and I had an undead knight use half-assed attacks. “So, a lich, right?”

“I thought you didn’t want to talk about the past?” I retorted.
The kid sighed and brushed his brown hair out of the way as it’d grown quite a bit. He kept quiet for the remainder of the night and focused on his spells, as did I.
Doran and the drake eventually fell asleep. I eyed him and wondered if there’d come a day where some demon would take him away because of me. No matter what it took, I had to get strong enough to rekindle the connection between the devils, Knerog and Agares, and also find a new vessel that wasn’t a fugitive. I hadn’t known Doran very long compared to Tina, but he was a lifelong friend. The number of times we saved each other’s asses or survived hopeless situations was too much to ignore.
I stoked the fire a bit and went to bed; when I awoke, the drake and Doran were gone. My eyes scanned the area and my summons were still there, although three of them were missing. Hmm, strange. I ignored it and began my morning exercise, then stopped. I don’t even need to do this anymore. Instead, I focused on efficiency, and decided that using Consume was a faster and sure way to get stronger.
I ventured around the sparse jungle, found a couple drakes and Komodo dragons, had my breakfast, then returned to the campsite. The snow-white drake was resting a bit, and by its bloody mouth, I knew it ate. The tantalizing aroma from Doran’s roast was proof that he had his fill as well. “You ready?” I asked.
“Almost,” he eyed me mischievously, then whistled. The drake’s eyes opened and it bellowed softly. Doran being Doran hopped up onto the drake, then it stood up, and he spread his arms apart like he was the king of the world. “Worship me, peasant.”
Admittedly, my jaw hit the ground so hard that I had trouble bringing it back up. My pea-sized brain was tangling together as it tried to extinguish the fire blazing through my last remaining village of neurons. “How?!”

The Painter: A fantasy psych thriller and epic
*** June 21th Update ***- New chapters are being posted! I haven't figured out a schedule yet, but stay tuned!- Thank you to everyone who has read and reviewed, I'm happy to say The Painter is in the top 200 best-rated fictions. - Readers of The Painter have suggested reading through Chapter 6 before making a decision on this book.- The story takes place in the Lootverse, but you don't need a canonical understanding to appreciate the storyFinally, a warning or reader beware: This is not an action novel (despite the coming fight scene) but a slow-burn psychological thriller of sorts. For a time, the Painter's life was simple. He lived in the small town of Kinon (called Kinney by locals) with his wife, Kahriah and his son, Thesdon. The story begins with him alone and unable to travel more than a few hundred miles from his home. For 5 years he tried to chart his prison until one day a letter appears with a mysterious commission that will see him test his condition and his boundary. Set roughly 50 years before the impending end of days (from Loot canon), The Painter is a story about loss, grit, and exploration of a seemingly normal man in a world of magic and monsters. The Painter will follow the man on his adventure to restore his family, uncover his commissioners and discover the nature of his condition. Loot is the decentralized, global, community built fantasy world based on Dom Hoffman's art/tech experiment: Loot. Fun fact: The cover of our book is painted by the artist, who the MC is loosely based on and the same person painting the Banners (digitally) IRL for an art/worldbuilding project.

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!

The Last Death Mage
Since time immemorial humanity has always feared and shunned what it didn’t understand. Over time this changed a bit to encompass things that didn’t conform to their thoughts and ideals. Due to humanity’s stubbornness with which the enforced their ideals many lives were lost and changed. When humanity first clashed with monsters and the beings that use magic, this trait caused many bloody fights. Over time the fights escalated into battles and full on war on several occasions. Humanity due to their adaptability and persistence won many of these altercations, causing huge casualties to the magical beings. Humanity did not come out unscathed however; many of the empires and civilizations noted in human history fell due to these battles and wars. Eventually over time humanity and the magical beings came to a sort of agreement. Magic and the beings associated with it faded into the background of history, being relegated to myth and legend. Humanity meanwhile advanced leaps and bounds once magic faded, leading to our current level of civilization. Not all magical beings were content with this, thus they did their own actions and killed or fed on humans. This has led to many organizations to be formed concerning this, on both the side of humanity and the side of magical beings. They regulate and control the use of magic as well as protect humanity from the darker things that are now not but myth to them, but there is a reason humanity instinctually fears the dark. Unfortunately there are always those that are unsatisfied by the status quo, and those that are prejudiced against things that are different. This is a story of a young man who wanted nothing more than to be normal. Unfortunately Fate and the world he lives in do not easily allow that this, thus his life changed, not for the better. Everyone has heard of or read stories about monsters and legends, heroes and villains, this is one such story. Hi, this is my second attempt at a story here, the first was before the major overhaul happened and i lost everything related to that story due to PC troubles. I hope you enjoy this if you dont please leave some constructive criticism in the comments. An Editor and the like will be needed, but I will edit as problems are pointed out and as i proof read. This story will have no set schedule, unless of course I decide to type up a bunch in succession then i will note that in a chapter beforehand. ADDED NOTE: most sexual content will be in Interludes or sub chapters with a .5 attached. Profanity and gore however shall be plenty in the actual story, though the descriptives for the gore may be added later. (For example, in the prologue that gave a hint at what happened to the MC, will be enhanced so that the gore invokes more descriptive/complete mental pictures, though it may wait.) ~Tyroth Gideon
