《Chronicles of Kyr》Book Two: Chapter 34 No rest for the immoral

Teleporting into an empty Chapel was quite annoying. Nobody to greet you or offer you a hand with any luggage or unwelcome guests. Maybe he could force his foist his problems onto someone else. A self-proclaimed protagonist who would happily do him a favor as he was a hero.
Pulling a large wagon from his domain, Kyrion began dragging the two unconscious girls toward a safe place. Somewhere with cool air, clean water, and potentially free food.
Now that he was free from that dungeon, mana flowed freely into his body. So as he dragged them forward, he cleaned himself with a layer of water mana, his skin becoming a singular unblemished light brown, and the smell of lotuses washed over him.
Knowing better, Kyrion did not share his cleansing abilities with the two unconscious people, as cleaning others with water mana against their will can be seen as disturbing. Furthermore, cleaning must only be done if unconscious for a set period with no sign of waking, as waste must be removed. But he was here now, so the other healers or teachers could handle the cleaning should it be required.
Arriving at a large garage, Kyrion put his ear in the door and listened.
There was clearly someone moving around in there at the late hours of midnight. Drisel did not enforce a lights-out policy for those with their own place to stay. Which meant that this place didn’t have to close.
Kyrion knocked on their garage.
The movement inside stopped, and Kyrion heard someone’s heart rate increase.
Kyrion waited a whole thirty seconds before the person’s heart rate slowed down, and he knocked again.
The figure inside stopped moving again before quietly moving into another room.
“Whats taking him so long… Go to so much trouble.” Kyrion hit the garage door so hard that the sound reverberated inside and knocked some stuff near the door down before running to the back of the room.
“What in the blasted hell do you want!” Cecil yelled from inside his garage.
Kyrion didn’t need to listen as he had entered through his special door and taken a seat on a perch above one of the many vehicles Cecil was trying to finish.
Cecil opened his garage door, a long tube in his hands, ready to be fired immediately. Only he looked down.
“Why are there two girls in here? Why is one of them Ceres?” Cecil scratched his head.
“It’s not nice to keep someone waiting.” Kyrion said calmly.
Sadly Cecil turned his blond hair disheveled, his blue eyes covered in bags, and his face more gaunt than usual.
“Ghost!” A net shot out towards Kyrion at a surprising speed.
Had Kyrion been any closer, he may not have been able to react, but given his distance, all the boy had to do was jump from his position, somersault over the net, and land on his feet.
Kyrion attempted to do that, but, given his exhaustion and slightly altered form, he overextended and landed face-first on the ground next to Cecil. It was not a pretty sight as a face-shaped crater was left behind.
“If it isn’t everyone’s favorite idiot. I heard you were captured.” An irritated voice said.
Kyrion got to his feet and sighed, dusting the dust off his face. “I was, and I wasn’t. Managed to evade those after me and picked up a few gifts. One new friend for your harem and some interesting machinery. It seems your buyer was giving your products to someone who could repurpose them.”
Kyrion brought out the semi-destroyed blue mech and smirked.

Cecil’s bags seemed to disappear as his eyes seemed to widen. “You found a mech?”
“And someone to join Cecil’s Harem.”
Cecil sighed. “This is a mech Kyrion. A giant robot!”
“Yeah, and?” Kyrion seemed annoyed.
“Every man dreams of piloting a giant robot.” Cecil said.
“You sure like to use everyone alot. Every man wants a harem. Every man needs to be able to do calculus. Every man needs some time to themselves.”
“This is beyond that. Listen, if I can make one of these then I’ll. Nevermind. Your gift to science will be noted. You just earned yourself a page in my memoir.”
“Great. Now I need one of those stasis coffins for her. She’ll be a bit uncooperative if she see’s that were weakened.”
“What about your stasis coffins?”
“I have a few prisoners who need to be interrogated thoroughly. One has already been sent to my friend in the tailor’s guild while the other will be meeting with the headmaster for a private discussion when I get a chance.”
“Busy week?”
“Surprisingly no. Was out of it towards the end there.”
So you’re doping off a prisoner? How can you be so sure I can keep them safe?”
“Because you’re a very bad liar. You’re also a hero and heroes don’t do anything that can harm their reputation. She also resembles one of my good friends. I’m sure we can come to an agreement on this without going into threats.” Kyrion said in a monotone.
“It’s not me you need to worry about. If she really is a spy then there may be a contingency pill or dead switch.” Cecil rolled his eyes. The blond-haired boy had no time for this.
“Oh right. Place her in stasis and we’ll have Exac look her over before letting her work with you. She’s the one who built that mech after all.”
“Fine. For a benefactor you sure ask for a lot.”
“I am the vice captain of your harem. It’s my job to be a bit much.” Kyrion said proudly.
“You arn’t in my harem. Why do you keep telling people that?”
“Because it’s funny. I also get quite a few snacks from people who would otherwise avoid me. Something about sharing them with my best friend.” Kyrion said.
“Really? Best friend.”
“Yeah, it’s clear what B.F. stands for right? Though I think Gf is better. We’re good friends.”
“Please stop. You’re going to give me a headache.”
“Fine, fine.” Kyrion let out an exasperated breath.
“Now if you will please take Ceres to her room.” Cecil said.
“Can’t you just call for Bella and have her do it.”
“Its past midnight if she isn’t studying she’s sleeping.” Cecil rolled out a rectangular box and removed the lid. It was big enough to fit a body.
Kyrion picked up Viole and placed her in the box before closing it. “I’ll take her to the lobby, carrying her to her room could get me in trouble.”
“A wise decision.”
Kyrion left Cecil alone as he pulled his wagon towards the girl’s wing of the 4 Dragons Dormitory.
Significantly few people moved around this late, and all hopping around on rooftops would get him a week of detention. Of course, Kyrion didn’t have a desire to go to detention any time soon as the professor in charge was onto his antics.
Being the responsible teenager, Kyrion knocked on the door loudly before running away. This method wouldn’t get him detention, but his knocks were quite loud, so anyone with an open window near his position heard it.

Lights came on as he dashed towards his own safe house.
A figure covered in black opened the door. After scoping the area, the figure walked out and grabbed hold of the wagon’s handle, and pulled it into the dormitory.
In minutes Kyrion had made it to his dorm, one he had helped build personally back when Gamodren first started teaching him formally. Suffice it to say, its creation put a few of the cheaper dorms out of business. The free dormitory seemed to magically burn down with no one inside after everyone left, and the second cheapest dorm became the free dormitory.
Opening the door to his room Kyrion prepared to jump into his bed when he noticed someone was sleeping in it. Upon closer inspection, three small people were sleeping in it.
Kyrion walked to the front door and checked to ensure he was in his room. He was in his room. So why were people in his bed?
Kyrion entered his guest room and saw that someone else was already there. Something told him that waking up this person would be a bad idea. So Kyrion left the room and then paused.
“Wait.”
Kyrion went back into his room and looked at the three intruders. Bastion, Eden, and Illanda had claimed his room as their own.
“Gam-oh-dren!” Kyrion left the room, his mouth seething, and decided to sleep in the training room.
Maximus was lying on a pallet on the floor of the training room.
Kyrion couldn’t be mad, as he asked his friend to dorm sit. The circumstances were not his fault. Still, Max had a room next door and a spare bedroom he wasn’t using.
Kyrion shook Max awake.
“Wha? Where is the fire?” Max said while half asleep.
“Max your on fire we need to get to your room and put you out.” Kyrion said calmly
“Oh no. Not again.” Max stood up in a haze and began walking towards the front door.
Kyrion opened the door, and Max walked towards his room, fumbling for his key. Finally, with some coaxing, the door managed to open. Then, with some careful leading, Max was in his own bed.
As Kyrion passed by Max’s room, hear heard some thunderous snoring and decided to go back to his training room and sleep.
Kyrion awoke with dark rings under his eyes. These were not natural, and he got the feeling someone used makeup on him to play a prank. Looking into a mirror, Kyrion noticed that quite a few drawings in makeup were on his face.
“Kids.” Kyrion grumbled as he had a light breakfast and did his morning exercises. It appeared that his guest had left earlier that morning. He then freshened up and put on some non-tattered clothing. Unfortunately, he was late due to unforeseen circumstances and now had to report to the headmaster.
Leaving his dorm room and then the dormitory as a whole, Kyrion decided to go see the headmaster before 2nd breakfast.
The primary school building was intimidating. Despite spending five years here, he hadn’t had a class here yet. Apparently, it was meant for those who were nearing graduation. Kyrion wasn’t there yet.
Placing a hand on the gilded door handle, he pulled and entered an old-smelling building. The wood floors were well polished and cared for. The doors also seemed to be made of darker wood, and the hall seemed to go on forever.
He stepped into the building and felt something touch his mana pool before fading. Raising the hairs on the back of his neck.
“Focus Kyrion. You have a purpose.” Kyrion had been here before and had been expecting that sensation. Sadly expecting a creepy feeling and being immune are entirely different things.
In a matter of minutes, Kyrion arrived and waited a moment.
“Come on in.” The headmaster ordered.
Kyrion closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and entered the room. “I have returned later than expected and would like to report my progress on the mission assigned to my person.”
There was no response, and Kyrion opened his eyes and lifted his head slowly, spotting Bastion, Eden, Illanda, and his mother.
“Did I come at a bad time?”
“Your alive!” Eden cheered.
“I told you he was immoral!” Bastion proclaimed.
“Immortal. And no one is immortal.” Illanda corrected.
Cordelia looked at the three kids, and they quickly grew quiet.
“No this matter concerns you heavily. As the three of these students will have to be sponsored by you if they are to attend this academy.”
“Sponsored?”
“Yes.” The headmaster answered without giving a real answer.
“What do you mean by that?”
“What I said. They will get in under your status as a pupil of the headmaster.”
“So all three of these kids will be put in my care. Under my name. What’s the catch? When did I become your pupil?”
The headmaster sighed. “Can’t an overly benevolent gift come without a price?”
Kyrion squinted. “Very funny.”
“Fine, you will be selected as the team captain for the squad that were sent to Clomonis. Every school on the continent will be sending representatives to participate for their school or organization. And despite my better judgment I’m choosing you to be the leader.”
“Why me? Why not Amadeus?”
“Because Amadeus couldn’t beat your friend Noah and you made fighting him look easy.”
“What?” Kyrion scowled.
“It was a bad matchup but they still lost. You fought two on one and came out on top. Why wouldn’t you be the top pick?”
“Bastion? Eden? Are y’all in on this?” Kyrion asked.
The two kids shook their heads, a bit worried.
“No, they weren’t Kyrion. Though I was, Caeden here is an old friend of mine from childhood. Originally I was going to use your status as an excuse to get Illanda into this school as it has a decent tamer’s program. Though I didn’t expect the methods to be so heavy handed. Luckily for you this helps you way more than it hurts.” Cordelia stated.
“Sorry for causing trouble.” Bastion poked his finger together and looked downwards, trying to hide his shame.
Kyrion felt guilty. “It’s not your fault that he’s gutting me for what I’m worth. Just disgusted by the methods that were used to accomplish it.” He then tried to push the guilt onto the headmaster.
“Now, now, I may be the headmaster but even I need to follow my own rules. This helps both of us.” Caeden sighed.
“I don’t even like fighting.”
“As captain you’re the leader. If you don’t want to fight, just make sure your team is strong enough to let you sit out and play support.”
“Oh? So I don’t have to fight if I don’t want to? Helping team morale and healing wounds. I’ll be the mascot! Doesn’t change much aside from the fact that I’m supposed to be dead.” Kyrion decided to take the job since he needed to go there anyway. This was just a detour.
“Good good. Now about your assignment.”
Kyrion placed a horn on the table next to a bloody bag holding a bear’s paw.
“These are both very low quality. You were supposed to get the roaming bear’s hide.”
“Given that the creature had odd worms shooting out of it I decided to eviscerate it so that I didn’t get tainted.”
The bag with the bear claw was tossed into a fire, and the sound of screeching could be heard as it turned green.
Everyone in the room shivered.
“Ok. That was too good to be true. What about the horn?”
“Took it from a dying bison. Didn’t want to kill unnecessarily as it was going to die anyway. It also had worms in one of its legs.”
“The horn seems fine. That country is in more trouble than we thought. Which is troublesome given its location.”
“It is. I have one more thing for you.” Kyrion pulled a large coffin-sized device from his domain and placed it on the table.
“What’s this?” Caeden asked.
“An agent of the Beastblood empire. A prisoner of sorts when you open the lid the magic keeping them suspended in time will wear off.”
“Where did you get someth…Oh right Cecil. About him.”
“Yeah the person he’d been selling weapons to was dirty. He’d been shiping at least a portion of the stuff he purchased to a dungeon where the stuff was worked upon.”
“Oh?” The headmaster seemed surprised.
“Now why were they in my room?”
“Oh that’s simple. They needed to stay in one room and yours was one with enough space to accommodate you. We all left relatively late last night.”
“Where did you get a key to my room?”
“Maximus let them in. Well more, he opened the door and they didn’t stop walking.”
“He said I was shorter than he remembered.” Cordelia seemed perturbed.
“Must have been half asleep.” Kyrion was a bit closer to the ground but still a giant compared to most people.
“Well then these two will need to be awakened. The price for doing so with our tablets are a thousand Academy points a piece.”
“A thousand?” Bastion was the one who was surprised.
“Who needs a thousand of anything!” Eden protested.
“The tablets are expensive but I know he can more than afford that. Isn’t that right Mr.Dorm owner.”
“Dorm owner? Do you own the room you’re using?” Cordelia asked.
“Cordeila your son is one of the wealthiest students at the academy. He owns all four of those buildings.” Caeden seemed to be waiting for that.
“All I did was help Gamodren. It was his blueprints after all. Wait all four?” Kyion shot up
“Kyrion, I didn’t know you had a fortune. How many credits does it cost to rent out for a year?”
“Fifty-two. The average student makes five credits a month before doing jobs and tasks for the academy are factored in.”
“Kyrion, would you mind paying for Illanda’s first few months so that she could settle in? A favor for you poor old mother.” Cordelia uses guilt.
Kyrion resisted due to low enough empathy.
“It really was a nice room, uncle Kyrion. But if you want me to use one of the lower quality….” Illanda used fake tears.
Kyrion has given in.
“Fine I’ll pay for your room until you can afford to pay for it yourself. And I’ll pay for the two awakenings as well.”
“Will they be getting rooms?”
“We’ll see about that later.” Kyrion pulled out a piece of paper, signed it, and added some numbers.
“Thanks for doing business. I will see you later.”
“Yeah yeah.” Kyrion stood only to realize that some things had been carefully left out.
“Bastion? Eden? It’s time to go.” Kyrion led them through the hallway.
