《Origin of Flames》23 The factory

"Bella, just pull it!" My teeth grind as she tugs on the thread. I huff and puff at the pain. In the set of mirrors, dried, crusty blood and deep claw marks into my back. I quiver at the sight and hug my stomach. For once, Bella's eyes are wide, "Are you going to be ok?!" I stare off, away from the mirrors. "I don't know. But it hurts like hell." I groan and lay myself down. I bang on the makeshift bed in pain. "Bella- Can you skin that damn thing?" A twinkle shines from Bella's eyes as a blade extends out her paw, "Skin it? It'll be good practice." I gulp at the violent tone, then weakly say, "Bring back some liver." I wince as she prances out through a hole in the wall, where Stonekin- Pain washes over me and I hug myself.
I sit and peek out one of his boot prints to look around in the deep snow. The wind will blow me around if I'm not careful. With great hesitation, I push myself through the freezing snow. Luckily he isn't that far. After minutes of aimlessly following the building, there lies a patch of bloodstained snow. My ears perk up. He's gone?! He's still alive? My hairs stick up as I follow the trail of blood. My heart pounds, If I don't help that man, I'll freeze out here. I can't hunt, I can't- A rabbit hops before me, a big brown one, the wooliest thing I've seen! I get low and feel a surge of energy flow through me. I bolt out the snow and the blizzard winds blow me away. I meow for help as I get dragged by the wind.
I mewl at the freezing winds, even I'm shivering now! I manage to claw into something, the world pitch black now. Now trapped in a warm fuzz, I peek out and a friendly voice speaks, "Are you ok, little cat?" I mewl. "No, these winds-" "They are a handful indeed! They almost tip me over!" I snort, "Yeah." "What in the heavens are you doing out here!?" With a quick nuzzle into the wool, all my worries fade away, "I'm looking for a bear called Stonekin!" She halts and I almost fall out her coat. "Stonekin!? My word!" "You know him?" She shakes snow off her coat, "Know him!? He's famous for being dangerous! Why must you find him?!" "I just want his pelt." Her stomach kicks me and she jumps at the feeling too, "You can't, you're a mere kitty cat!" "See the blood? I got him! But he got up, he can't go far." She turns around, "I can't help you, my child will soon be with us!" I mewl, then her voice stops me, "But, I have a friend that can help. You may not like it though." "Okay, any help would be great." She starts walking and I cozy in.

Ortus (Old Version)
This is an old version of the heavily edited and rewritten Ortus This is the story of a woman named Riza. Riza is a woman who wakes up in a forest with nothing, remembering nothing, and on the cusp of death. The only thing she has is a weapon stuck in her side and, after a tangle with a wild boar, something called 'life aspect'. Little does she know that life magic is considered a dead-end branch and is largely outlawed across the world. None of this matters to her, of course. For one, even if someone tried to tell her, she doesn't know the language. Number two, have you heard about the sunk cost fallacy? Riza is not some chosen one, nor is given any boon she doesn't deserve. Instead, she's smart and methodical, and experiements on how to maximise every opportunity, every ability, presented to her. She doesn't just take things at face-value but instead explores just what limitations there are. This often involves maths.

To Rane, it meant being forced on a path of bloodshed and death based on the whims of his slavers. To commit acts that went against every human instinct he retained.
