《BLOODTHIRSTY》52. Ancient scrolls

Winter was fast asleep, she found herself being scared. Her heartbeat raising and her mind a messy place. Fears she had forgotten she had came back to life. The darkness was surrounding her and it was suffocating. The world seemed so much smaller with her inside of it. As the flames of life surrounded her, she found herself being fearful. Tears falling down her face as she watched everyone cheer on.
Blades travelling down her soft skin, making her bleed in the process. Painful screams escaping her lips as she found herself powerless. Not strong enough to do anything about the pain that was being inflected on her.
Arculus watched the way Winter was fast asleep. Small breaths leaving her lips yet he did not need to use his powers to see if she was okay. Her hand grabbing his arm as she squeezed. Making him familiar with the fear she had been feeling.
"I'm sorry." He had heard her whisper.
"Winter." He called out to her.
Winter's eyes shot open as she immediately sat up. Her mouth slightly open as she tried to process whatever just happened. She looked around and only when her eyes locked with Arculus she found herself relaxing.
"I-I think the world is ending." She had whispered as she buried her face in his chest.
"What are you talking about?" Arculus had asked confused.
"I think I'm dying." She whispered in disbelief, not trying to belief her own words. Her entire world was crumbling apart, making her belief that she was not safe anywhere.
Arculus sat up straight as he tried comfort Winter. "It's was just a dream, you aren't dying Winter." He tried to talk some sense into her yet she shook her head in disbelief.
"I-it felt so real." She whispered to herself as she quickly got out of bed. Taking a shower and getting ready for the day, looking for her crown Arculus always forced her to wear. Putting on a black dress that reached her ankles. Getting ready when she was panicking was hard. It felt as if time was going faster than it needed.
"Winter." Arculus called out to her yet again. He stood up from the bed as he approached her.
"It was just a dream." He tried to tell her yet She refused to listen.
"I'm telling you Arculus it was not." She whispered as she finally found the crown and put it on her head.
She quickly walked out of the room as she looked for Orobas. Her eyes roaming around the room as she called for the demon. As Orobas appeared from thin air completely uneasy since he was in fact concerned.
"You called me, my Queen?" Orobas had said with raised eyebrows as he glanced at the human in a skeptical manner. Her heart beat was irregular and he could smell the fear that radiated off her body.
"Well first good morning Orobas, and Aakan..." She trailed off as she looked into a certain direction. "You too Amdusias." She had said weakly yet still tried to offer everyone a smile.

"I need you to look into the future." She had said in all seriousness that Orobas almost went along yet he could not and he shouldn't.
"As much as I would want to do that, I fear that I can not. We are not aloud to interfere with destiny. What happens will happen, don't get me wrong. I'm a powerful demon however I am no God." He had explained to her very clearly and it seemed to him that she had understood yet her mind was a messy place.
The emotions she was feeling could be felt by everyone in the room. Her fear was only increasing and her heart beat was doing the same. Every small noise she heard could make her heart jump out of her chest. Winter tried to not panic, she tried to stay calm and be collected. Yet she could still feel the way the blades had made contact with her skin. She could still feel how soar her throat was for screaming in pain and agony. Winter could still feel the warmth of the flames that embraced her. She remembered what death felt like and to her it seems as if it was knocking at her door, simply waiting for her to respond. Despite her not wanting to die, it seems as if she had no choice.
Arculus stepped inside of the room as he glanced at Orobas. "Winter, you should calm down. Whatever that you saw in that dream will not happen." Arculus tried yet again to comfort her but it seemed as if he was trying to convince himself.
Winter approached Arculus and placed her hand on his head. Remembering that whatever she felt he could feel too. She closed her eyes and tried to see if he was also able to see what she had seen.
A world filled with evil, destruction in every corner. This dreamed looked actually like the one he had seen years back. Holding on to Winter as tears streamed down her face because she remembered, every being that lived on earth has died and in that dream she had been the last human alive.
Arculus held her trembling body against his. Whispering kind words in her ears and making sure she relaxed under his touch. Telling her that everything would be alright despite not being sure. This might have been lying however she was in a bad state. Whatever the dream was, it had a bad effect on her. Which was understandable yet he simply didn't understand why she was so sure that the dream had been true.
Winter was human, and if Arculus remembered correctly she did not have any psychic abilities. She was an ordinary human he had fallen in love with. Winter had no hidden powers, she wasn't strongest either. Losing her once was enough, he wasn't about to lose her again so he simply believed her. Even when the entire situation didn't make any sense, he had no other choice than to believe her.

"Why don't you go swimming in lake behind the palace? It will calm you down and you will feel better." Arculus suggested and she nodded her head in agreement.
Only when she was far enough to not hear him, he turned towards his most trusted demons. Worry pretty evident on his face and Orobas could tell.
"She doesn't seem fine, and thats thanks to a dream." Amdusias said but slightly confused.
"What's happening Aakan?" Arculus asked the royal guard, certain that there was no way the guard didn't know what this was about. They made their way to his office in a hurry.
Aakan was quiet, watching how the Queen's silhouette disappeared from a distance. A worried expression was visible on his face. "She saw the future." He said simply as he had planned on going after his Queen.
"Shouldn't I be aware about what the dream was about?" Orobas wondered, his eyebrows raised in confusion. Since he had always been able to see the future, past and present.
Aakan shook his head. "She dreamed about the prophecy."
"Prophecy?" Arculus wondered, remembering how he heard someone mention it when he was on earth.
"You should prepare yourself my lord." Aakan spoke as he stared into the void. "Prepare yourself for whatever is about to come."
Arculus wasn't sure if Aakan had been making a suggestion perhaps he was giving some advice, or was Aakan warning him. Arculus let out a sigh in frustration. Annoyance written all over his face because he could feel how this situation will get out of hand. However how was he supposed to end a war between humans?
What he was supposed to do was unclear. Because if this all depended on him, he would not be involved in another war and just protect his own. He had lost Winter once and he won't let it happen again. So to him his actions was justified. Saving humans wasn't something he will do again unless this was about Winter.
"She wouldn't like that." Orobas spoke as his eyes were glued on his lord.
"She has no choice. I won't be participating in another war." Arculus stated, making up his mind.
Amdusias sat down on the couch, very relaxed as he simply listened to what everyone had to say. "Why is no one suspicious on the fact that she can see the future?" Amdusias wondered which had caused for everyone to look his way. "What? I'm just saying."
Arculus figured he will have to go to earth. Despite him not wanting to help them, he figured he should still found out what was happening. He made his way to the lake behind the palace.
She had been swimming naked in the lake. Her eyes closed, probably trying to come to her senses. Yet it wasn't helping, she found herself stressing even more. Arculus approached her and kneeled down to her level.
"I'll be visiting earth, are you coming with me?" I wondered as I pushed her hair away from her face. Her beautiful eyes locking with mine.
"Yes, why not." She said with a trembling voice.
Our trip to the earth was supposed to be a quick one. Arculus tried to find out more and winter came to visit her family.
Winter had stayed with Lazarus while Arculus visited the man that had been praying to him. The house wasn't the same as the previous one. The man had been wearing a dark robe with some kind of mark on his forehead. His prayer was directed to him yet something felt off. The malice that rolled off the human being was something that did not go unnoticed. Arculus simply watched and waited for the man to turn around, and when he did it was the eyes that had caught his attention. The man was either wearing red lenses or really had red eyes.
"We meet again my lord." The man spoke and Arculus crossed his arms.
"Are you finally seeing the gravity of the situation? Are you done pretending as if you don't know anything?" The man wondered and Arculus simply listened.
"The scrolls where are they?" Arculus wondered and the human handed it to him. "Alright, you report back to me. I don't need others to find out about this."
"But my lord they will eventually find out the truth." The human spoke but Arculus didn't care.
"Do you know what type of chaos will break out if everyone found out the truth?" Arculus shook his head.
Winter had been in the kitchen with all the kids. It was very stressful but she didn't mind. While the twins were in the office with Lazarus, she was making cupcakes with the younger kids. She helped them put them in the oven and than they waited patiently.
Aakan appeared out of thin air as he waited. Rogan entered the kitchen just in time, witnessing the entire shift. His eyebrows raised in confusion. However Rohan walked over the ancient spirit. His arms crossed as his gaze never left the spirit.
"Who are you?" He wondered unimpressed.
Winter turned around in surprise. "You have been here? I didn't even notice your presence." Winter spoke.
"Children would have been scared." Aakan answered. "And I told you wherever you go I will follow."
"Is he like you personal spirit friend?" Rogan wondered as his gaze never left Aakan.
"I'm her royal guard." Aakan answered the twins.
"Royal guard huh? We are blessed to be in your presence your majesty." Rohan suddenly spoke and Winter decided to slap his arm.
"Not you too." She had said annoyed.

Keys of the Endpoint is an illustrated web serial about the re-birth of civilization in a fantastical world suffering from a recent apocalyptic event. Every day, people appear from the storms that ravage the Endpoint. Whisked away from their own time and place by storms in their homelands, these newcomers find themselves in a hostile place made up of ruins and people from every timeline imaginable. Stranger still, they all soon discover they're carrying silver keys that grant each holder incredible powers. On Earth, most people have mundane excuses for the disappearances, but not Isaac. Having lost his brother Finn to one of these storms, Isaac becomes obsessed with finding a pattern. Not to prevent more people disappearing, but rather to get taken by the storms himself in order to find his brother. While chasing Finn’s faint trail, Isaac soon discovers how little he really knew about himself, his brother and how much loss one person can take. In Keys of the Endpoint there's portal fantasy, personal drama, magic (useable by everyone), plenty of combat, power progression, mysteries, factions, feuds and eventually war (in that order). The magic system is well defined and modular with nigh infinite combinations. The story starts out with one of the two main characters looking for his lost brother but quickly expands in scope from that point on.
