《BLOODTHIRSTY》37. Troubled heart

The entire week has been busy. In fact he would have wanted to go back to the forest because this did not compare to the work Brasa would make him do. This was a whole other level of responsibility that he did not even know he had. The Queen did not even give him a moment to sit down and relax. He had documents after documents laying on his desk.
While the two demons just sat in his office while playing games. In fact he didn't even know he had an office of his own some days ago. He only had been here for a week and the Queen was already preparing him. Preparing him for when he becomes king. Which confused Arculus, why would he have to be prepared for this either way. What was the rush? Wasn't the Queen healthy enough to lead anymore? Was his mother sick and hiding something from him. Arculus truly had no idea of what was happening.
"What the hell Amdusias, you are cheating." Orobas screamed annoyed.
"You just salty because you're losing." Amdusias said while laughing.
"Don't test me Amdusias." Orobas warned him.
"Well look who is the grumpy teddybear now." Amdusias said amused.
Orobas stood up but Arculus finally intervened. "Can you guys shut the fuck up for fuck sake?" Arculus said annoyed at the fact that they were bothering him.
"Seems like you aren't the only one being salty Orobas." Amdusias retorted back.
"You two are arguing as if I wouldn't make you two sit down and do this work for me." Arculus said out loud and the two demons seemed to shut up, but he still took the pile of work and split it between the two anyway.
Amdusias sighed and Orobas stared at the documents. "Why is the Queen making you do all the work anyway?" Orobas asked confused.
"I have no idea, she said she was preparing me but what is the rush?" Arculus asked out loud but suddenly smiled at Orobas.
"No."
"You didn't even know what I was about to ask." Arculus defended himself.
"You were about to ask me to use my powers on the Queen. The answer is no buddy." Orobas answerd and removed his eyes from Arculus.
"You two are really good for nothing." Arculus complained and went back to his pile of work.
The window was wide open. Arculus found himself looking up at the sky. The two moons looked beautiful, he was sure Winter would have enjoyed the view too. He wanted to communicate with her however he didn't even explain his relationship to his mother. Even Orobas and Amdusias weren't completely sure. Arculus had decided to be the one to lead the war. He knew that this was a big responsibility but he was the prince after all. This was his duty, or at least he felt like it was supposed to be.
Two man knocked before walking in. They kneeled as a form of respect, and Arculus knew he had to get used to that. No matter how many times he tells them to stand up, they just won't listen to him. So as a result Arculus gave up too.
"The Queen wants to speak with you." One of them answered and he nodded.
He left his office and made his way to where his mother was. She sat on the throne while looking angry. He wasn't sure if it was just her face but he could tell that something was bothering her deeply.
"I have heard stories son." The woman spoke up.

He was unsure of how to answer. "Congratulations?"
"They have reported seeing you with a human girl plenty of times." The woman spoke up and Arculus raised his eyebrows.
"Well isn't it normal if I lived on earth?" He asked with his arms crossed.
The mother nodded her head. "Yes that is understandable, however the...the relationship you two share is not what we approve of." The Queen informed him and he just found himself looking at her in disbelief.
"Who is 'we'?" He asked simply unbothered. She had no say in this but he was just curious to who she was referring to.
"Me and the law. Demons are not supposed to interact with humans, and they sure aren't supposed to have a...questionable relationship." The Queen did not remove her eyes from her son.
Arculus was trying to understand why she thought her opinion mattered. "You send me on earth, erased my memories. Forced me to find out about my origins on my own. Do I have to remind you that perhaps I wouldn't have started a relationship with a human if I knew it was against the law? But than again i wasn't raised here was I? What do I know about our demon laws Mother?" He asked her and tried to make the amusement in his voice go unnoticed.
"Well you know now, I'm sure when the two other demons found out they told you about it did they not?" She asked annoyed while her eyes were glued on him.
"They have no say in what I do." Arculus leaned on the wall while he mother blabbed on.
"You are a demon Arculus, those filthy humans-"
"As much as I want to respect you mother even when you were barley in my life, I suggest you to watch your mouth." He said simply while staring at the ceiling. It was surprisingly really high.
"Excuse me?" She said taken-back.
"You're excused." He said simply while walking back to his office.
For someone that only started playing mother she sure had a lot to say. He respected her, don't get him wrong. After all she was the one that birthed him. However he didn't like the way she talked about humans. Sure they have issues and most of the time can't get their lives together. Some where decent, and his human was more than just decent. After all Winter was with him while is mother didn't bother looking for him. His snowflake was the one that accepted him for who he was before any one else. If he didn't let the spirits that actually raised him come between them, why would he let a woman that only showed up two weeks ago talk bad about humans.
He didn't mind the way His mother commanded him. All the work he had in his office was just an presentation of what will be the reality one day. He understood that he was supposed to lead this kingdom one day. So Arculus understood where she was coming from. But there wasn't much logic in why she didn't like humans, and even if there was he didn't want to understand.
"How did the meeting go?" Orobas asked him while looking at the documents he had given.
Arculus sighed and sat back down in his chair. "The woman is against me and Snowflake." He said simply while closing his eyes to relax.
"Against you and Winter? Well that was expected, but I'm sure she will get over it after she actually meets Winter. Her image of humans isn't always accurate." Orobas answered trying to reassure him, yet he wasn't worried about his mother. It was winter that worried him.

He was prince of the underworld, doomed to rule over it in the future. After he is crowned king everything will be in his hands. While she was human, but she wasn't just any human. Perhaps he didn't want to think about it. Or maybe he was too afraid. However humans can't enter the underworld unless they have passed. They can't live here because if they do, they are here to be punished. He wanted to her to be by his side. Keep her in his arms and hear her heartbeat. He loved the way she smiled and the sparkles in her eyes. He wasn't sure things will remain the same if she was here, with him in hell.
Winter had a life of her own. A family she loved and friends she cared about. She had dreams of her own and things she wanted to fulfil. Why would she leave that all behind just to be with him? Who was he to even take away her dreams and come between her and her family?
Amdusias raised his eyebrows at the Prince, a little concerned. "I can already tell how he is overthinking. Orobas talk him out of it." Orobas looked up to see how Arculus was doing.
"It will be alright Archie." He said simply but Arculus couldn't bring himself to believe him.
"How do you know?" Arculus asked him completely forgetting to which demon he was talking to.
"I have my demon powers remember."
The rest of the day went by smoothly. He didn't expect his mother to totally forget what had happened. It seemed like she didn't pay attention to him as much she did before. In the evening he could tell how suddenly everyone became quiet. The entire palace was silent even Amdusias that had been talking grew quiet too. Heels making contact with the marble floor could be heard. The maids that were in the room ran away in fear and Orobas grew annoyed.
He laid his eyes on a woman with silky black hair. Her eyes were purple and she had tan skin. The dress she was wearing was hugging her tightly. Arculus removed his eyes from her and looked at the documents in his hands. He had to chose who would be by his side during the war. What demon would be attacking and which one needed to defend the kingdom while he was on earth fighting for freedom. The list of names where endless but not everyone was capable of fighting. Arculus looked up from the documents when he heard his mother's voice.
"This is Mezic, she is one of my most powerful demons. Feared by most and respected." His mother voice had pride in it, the woman was prideful and he knew.
Yet he wasn't interested, his eyes went back to scanning the names on the list. "Nice to meet you Mezic." He said simply. However he looked back up and glanced at the woman. "Powerful you said?" He asked his mother. "So she can fight in the war than?" Arculus asked the woman however she did not answer.
"I'm talking to you? Is that a yes or a no?" He asked her and she scoffed.
"You have no manners, is that a way to treat a lady. You didn't even introduce yourself to me?" She asked him and for the first time his mother had the chance to hear her son laugh for the first time.
Arculus glanced at the woman in disbelief. "She called you powerful did she not? I was just asking a simple question, and there is no need for me to introduce myself." He said while he observed the woman. As much as she was already annoying him, he truly wanted an answer to his question.
"And do you mind telling me why you do not have to introduce yourself?" Mezic asked annoyed yet amused at the same time.
"I'm pretty sure you already know who I am." Arculus stated the obvious.
"W-well I don't know who you are. I just arrived today." She said while being satisfied with her answer.
Arculus stood up from his seat and walked pass the woman. "I have work that need to be attended too. I'm sure Orobas can inform you." He said simply while leaving the room.
While he walked away his mother was after him. He sat down in his office while putting a mark next to the names that could participate to the war. His mother barged In clearly upset about what he did.
"You should have showed her some respect son."
"Not sure if you forgot, but we are in the middle of war." He stated simple while never removing his eyes from
his documents.
"Fine, however she is the one that I picked. So threat her nicely." She said and could hear the happiness in her voice.
He raised his eyebrows and looked at the woman. "The one you picked? You mean the one you picked to fight the war right?"
The Queen shook her head. "The one you will marry."
Arculus never had any issues with keeping his emotions in check. He never snapped because he knew it could end badly. However he couldn't stop his reaction when he heard the word 'marry' come out of her mouth. His eyes went back to his original colour. Anger evident in his eyes. He shut his eyes and tried to suppress his demon that felt the need to defend himself, but he was sure he wasn't defending himself. He got angry because marrying someone else sounded wrong - utterly wrong.
"I suggest you to never utter such thing every again if you do not want to be thrown against a damned wall. I do not always have any control over my demon powers mother. Be careful with what kind of nonsense you tell me." Red glowing eyes stared back at his mother. The woman remembered why her son was so feared. She knew why he was seen as a danger, a possible threat to any beings. However she didn't expect him to react so strongly to a mere human.
"My apologies." Arculus hears the woman say before walking away.
His reaction was unlike him but it made him realise what he actually wanted. He wanted Winter by his side. He wanted to wake up next to her, he saw a future with her. However he was sure this was selfish of him. Because what if this wasn't want she wanted? What if she didn't want to leave any of her family and friends behind. Who was he to take it away from her?
He laid his head against his desk. Remembering her face he had taken a mental note off. Her scent he had smelled a billion of times. He remembered the conversation he had with Gio. Love really is a bitch. However what if he had fallen for her but she not as much. Will he have to live with the thought of not being loved back. Does he have to live with the idea of the love of his life not loving him back?
