《BLOODTHIRSTY》23. The key to happiness

If there was one thing Arculus hated, that would have been lies. So he had brought Winter along to find out the truth. Only she had no clue about where they were going. He had trouble with looking away. Her eyes sparkled in the dark and her smile surprisingly did something to his heart. He watched the way her hand made its way to his. Her hands were warm, in fact her whole body was warm unlike his. Arculus never had it cold but his body temperature had always been low.

Winter glanced at the neighbourhood they were in and she raised her eyebrows. "Where are we going?" She asked with raised eyebrows and Arculus stopped in his tracks.

"Call your friend and tell him to come outside." He told her simply avoiding her confused expression.

"Arculus I can't just-"

He pulled winter closer to him and forced her to look him in the eyes. Arculus expression was stone cold and Winter found herself wondering why. "Call him and tell him to come outside. I won't ask you again Winter." Her name rolled of his tongue so perfectly and it made her heart skip a beat.

It was late at night and Winter was supposed to be at her dorm room. She was sure Chris was asleep or at least would be pissed if she woke him up. Chris has never been a night person. Winter took her phone out of her jeans pockets and called him. Her phone rang a couple of times before he finally answered.

"Hello?" His voice always reminded her of thunderstorms. Him getting angry was really not the sight she wanted to see.

"Euh Hi Chris, can you come downstairs?" She asked carefully but in reality she was scared.

"For what?" Chris found himself asking irritated.

Winter glanced at Arculus that was looking right back at her. "Euh I wanted to talk?" She was unsure about everything herself.

She could hear him sigh irritated but regardless of how he was feeling, he still whispered an 'Okay' before hanging up. The door slowly opened and Chris came out of his apartment. Chris raised his eyebrows when he saw the person right next to her. He really didn't mind it if it was Winter, however he could not stand Arculus at all. To him, Arculus was the one that took Winter from him.

"What do you want?" Chris asked more directed to Arculus than to Winter.

Arculus glanced at the blond boy. His green eyes did not leave Winter any second. It was like he was waiting for her to say something, however she was quiet. Standing right beside him staring at nothing in particular.

"I just came to ask a question." Arculus tried his best to keep his emotions in check.

"Hurry up than." Arculus raised his eyebrows at Chris. The tone he was speaking to him really didn't sit well with him.

"You know a man named Lazarus?" He asked with raised eyebrows and he heard the way Chris heartbeat speeded up.

"No why are you asking?" Chris raised his eyebrows, and Arculus couldn't control his emotions any longer. His eyes switched to its original color and Chris had noticed.

He scoffed and stared at Winter. "He isn't human?" The question was directed to Winter but Winter didn't now who to talk anymore.

"Do you even know what you're getting yourself into?" Chris asked her and again she couldn't find the right words to say.

"Apparently you do." Arculus answered irritated.

"I had no choice." He told him simply and Arculus found himself taking steps closer to him.

"You had no choice? You put her in danger Chris." His voice was like thunder, loud and powerful. Arculus was angry but Winter was too confused to say anything.

"I fucked up I admitted it, but it was either her or me. I did everything in my power to keep her safe after they had let her go." Chris defended himself, at the same time confirming Arculus suspicion.

"Wait...what?" Winter asked confused, well aware that they were talking about her.

"I felt guilty after those bloodsuckers took her. Winter...listen." Chris called out to the girl he loved so much. So much that the sight of her tears pained him.

"Listen Winter please my love, d-don't do that." He watched the way the girl with diamond eyes and a heart made of gold looked at him with disgust.

"It was you?" She looked at him with disbelief. "I was put into a freaking mental institution because to them I was a lunatic. Everytime I told you I saw vampires you told me I was crazy. Yet you knew that I was speaking the truth." Winter could feel her heart breaking into pieces.

For so long she wanted to prove herself to be right. She wanted someone to believe her. The feeling of telling the truth but no one, not a single person believing you. It felt as if she was wrong, as if she was the one at fault. All the tears that she had wasted, all the emotions she had felt. Everything could have been avoided but he made her go through all of that. Winter could feel the first tears rolling down her cheeks.

Chris tried to approach her, he tried to reach the only girl that had his heart. "Don't do this Winter, you know I love you. I have done everything to keep you safe, and this is how you treat me?" He asked her with raised eyebrows.

"Manipulative bitch." She whispered in disbelief.

"You're putting the blame on me yet again. This wouldn't have happened if you didn't lead me to them in the first place." Arculus for the first time heard her raise her voice to someone else. The same girl that never stood up for herself, the same girl that lived in the shadows of others finally had said something. This may have been a bad moment, but he was happy and in all honesty he enjoyed the view.

"You don't know what you are talking about Winter. You will regret this." Chris tried to warn her and Arculus frowned.

"Is that a threat Chris?" Arculus took steps closer to him and Arculus fist made contact with Chris face. An other punch followed soon enough and Chris had a busted lip.

Arculus had his hand wrapped around Chris throat. Squeezing hard enough so the man could suffocate. Arculus was convinced that the man was a waste of space. However Winter disagreed.

"Arculus please stop." Her voice didn't reach his ear, he was so overwhelmed by anger.

Winter ran towards the man with pitch black hair and eyes darker than the night. She tried to push him off Chris but the man was way too strong. "Arculus please I'm begging let him go."

Arculus dropped Chris on the ground and his eyes were fixated on the human girl. He noticed the way the moonlight made her skin glow. In his eyes winter looked like a goddess. He had seen a lot of humans in his life, however Winter would always find a way to amaze him. Chris was gasping for air and Winter ran towards him just to make sure he was alright. Than she reminded herself everything he had done and she found herself walking away from him.

"T-this is all your fault." Chris was angry and glanced at Arculus.

Arculus grabbed his hair and shook his head in disappointment. "You brought this on yourself." He answered angry and let Chris hair go. He stood up and watched the way Winter wasn't saying anything.

She was hurt, deeply hurt. Winter always thought she was too sensitive. Always overreacting about everything. She thought she was too emotional. Perhaps she was, and all her issues made her go insane. She loved ignoring her problems and always waited for it to go away. Yet it didn't really work like that. Nothing worked like that. The issues won't go away unless you do something about it. Winter wiped her tears away and stared back at Chris that laid on the ground. She finally understood that he did not deserve her.

"Let me get you home." Arculus tried to change the subject but Winter shook her head.

"I don't want to go home." She told him and he understood.

Arculus walked up to her and placed her arms around him. Winter looked up to Arculus skeptical. "What are you doing?"

"Hold on tight." He told her simply and she found herself back at his house in a split second.

She was quiet, not saying a word. He supposed that was completely normal since she just found out the truth that her childhood friend was behind her kidnapping. However he wanted her to say something. It really didn't matter what. He wanted to bring the smile back that made his cold heart skip a beat. He wanted her to open up to him, perhaps talk about whatever. Arculus saw the front she was trying to put on, the mask where she thought she could hide behind. As much as he didn't want to invade her privacy, he could hear it. Her feelings, her thoughts where all over the place. He sat down beside here and stared in front of him, not looking her in the eyes.

"You will be alright." Winter turned around and glanced at Arculus.

"I know I will, but I just don't understand what I have done so wrong." Winter confessed and went back to staring at nothing.

"You have done nothing wrong Winter, so please don't blame yourself." Arculus told her in hope she would understand.

She smiled at him and stood up from the couch and wandered around the house. There was an office in his house, she turned around to ask if she could enter and she found him nodding his head. Winter entered the office and smiled at the picture on his desk. It was a picture of him covered in mud and he had tree branches in his hair.

"You were a wild kid?" She asked him curious. She turned around finding him leaning on the wall.

"No not really Brasa just made me do all the training while it was being lazy." He said irritated and she raised her eyebrows.

"Who is Brasa?" She asked curious.

"Brasa is the leader of the forest spirits. Every spirits has tasks that they have to do, and Brasa is the one that tells them what actually they have to do." Arculus explained simply.

"Your not scared people can see you?" She asked while looking around the house. There were windows as big as the door.

"No we can look outside but the people outside can't look inside, and even if that wasn't the case. The forest is empty anyway." Arculus told her while taking small steps towards her.

"But aren't there other being in the woods. Like werewolf's or something?" She asked curious since she never had seen any werewolf's herself.

"They are at the other parts of the woods. Brasa doesn't like werewolf's, so if there are some werewolf's that are wondering around she always ask them to leave." Arculus smiled at the thought of Brasa. The spirit could be harsh sometimes.

"Did werewolf's did something, for Brasa to hate them?" Winter asked curious and he shook his head.

"No not really, werewolf's don't like to obey rules. While the spirit live by obeying the rules." He told her and she nodded her head, as if she understood both creatures completely.

Winter looked through the window. There was snow falling out of the sky and winter looked up at the moon. Arculus was satisfied he could capture this moment. Her eyes were sparkling and her smile would never fail to make his heart skip a beat. Arculus wasn't sure what he was feeling at the moment but he could feel his eyes staring at her lips.

"You know I can't wait for Winter to be over and Spring to finally start." Winter chuckled at her own words. Winter turned around and Arculus approached her.

"Well, Winter has always been my favourite season." He told her and pushed her hair out of her face.

"Oh really?" Winter asked with a smirk on her face.

"You're also, kind of my favourite person." He told her truthfully and she wasn't sure how to react.

"Kind of?" She asked playfully.

Arculus had no idea what he was doing. He didn't know what this feeling was. Winter has always been the highlight of his day. He knew he had missed her but what was this feeling? Arculus didn't expect himself to take an other step closer towards her. Their faces were inches away from each other.

Arculus laughed at the human girl. "I meant to say, my favourite person." He answered, and found himself staring at her lips. Before she could even reply, Winter felt his lips on hers. Their mouth moved slowly against each other, and Winter was the first to pull away.

They were both speechless. Neither of them understand what just had happened. Arculus traced her lips with his thumb. He stared at her face and she did the same. Pitch black long hair and a killer smile. Winter wanted to look away but she was so mesmerised. She wanted to ask why he had just kissed her all of a sudden, and she wanted to understand why she didn't push him away. To her surprise she enjoyed it, every second of it.

Arculus smiled again, and placed an other kiss on her mouth. "You're not resistible." He answered her question.

Winter felt her cheeks heat up and made sure not to look the man in the eyes. However he placed his hand under her chin and pushed it upwards, so she was forced to look him in the eyes. Arculus cursed under his breath as he stared longer at her.

"You really aren't resistible." He told her again and she found herself smiling. He planted another kiss on her mouth and to him it felt like he had done this countless of times. Arculus felt like this was meant to be. The darkness that he was so used to started to fade away. In this moment he had finally understood, that she was the only key to his happiness.
