《Dark Slate》Chapter 3: Hidden Side

It's been almost two years now. All I do is walk around, And eat the food they give me. Although the food isn't all that good, it lacks flavor, maybe I'm not used to eating this kind of food. But, I do like fruits and vegetables.
I ignore my family. since I don't feel anything for them. Anytime they call me by the name Arata. I never react to it since I'm not used to being called by that name. And when they look at my face they sometimes make a troubled expression.
One day we were all sitting at the table eating dinner. Emma was feeding me food as if I couldn't eat it by myself. Though I didn't like the food. Leon was happily eating his food, And Hanna was eating with a serious expression on her face.
Maybe she's just a serious person. Like me
Then Emma excitedly announced that she was pregnant. Leon probably already knew since he didn't make a big fuss. Plus it's noticeable due to her large stomach. I'd say she's been pregnant for a while now.
"That's great news, Emma. hopefully, the baby becomes a strong and capable person" Leon said proudly.
Emma smiled happily while rubbing her belly.
"But at least we already have an heir to our family" Leon declared excitedly. "I'll teach him how to use a sword and he will be an excellent swordsman." "You hear that Arata!" he said looking my way.
But like always I ignored him. I didn't even look at him.
A swordsman huh? Not interested. I've never used a sword. And I never had an interest in learning.
Hanna my sister excused herself after that. She doesn't speak to me often. She always looks like she's mad at me.
"hmm" Leon frowned "what's wrong with you boy, look at me" he said in a curious tone, poking at my arm to get my attention.
"come on Leon don't bother him while he eats, he is still a little boy." Emma said.
"yeah I know, but he does behave strangely. don't you think?" Asked Leon
" . . . " Emma stayed quiet for a minute then said "well he's still a baby." she said as if trying to convince herself that there was nothing wrong with her precious child.

At first, Leon thought there was something wrong with me because I never looked at them when they tried to get my attention. Emma didn't think much of it at first, but as time passed, she too started to realize there was something wrong.
Hmm, maybe I should acknowledge them somehow.
"that's the same excuse you always use regarding this topic," he said. Then Emma made a sullen expression. Leon noticed and said "b-but maybe he will get better, he is still growing after all." he said quickly trying to comfort her. "Isn't that right? Arata." he said to me.
I looked at him and raised my hand. "Ah. . . Ha." I said.
They both just stared at me in shock. as this was one of the very few times when i would acknowledge them. I was looking back and forth at both of them.
"Pfft. Haha." Leon started laughing and picked me up. "Well, well. It seems like you really are normal." He said while throwing me up and down.
I'm getting dizzy.
"BLAH." I vomited on his face.
"Ahh gross. Why did you do that." He said as he put me down on the table and started wiping his face with a rag.
"Yhu." I tried saying, pointing my finger at him accusingly.
"Huh? Are you saying this is my fault?" He said.
I nodded my head several times.
Leon just let out a sigh. While Emma was giggling to herself.
I then felt Emma's hand caressing my hair.
Feeling overwhelmed by her loving gaze, I fell off the table and hit my head.
"Ah. . .mhh" I groaned in pain while putting my hands on where I hit myself.
"ARATA!" They both yelled in unison.
Leon picked me up while Emma rubbed my head.
"Hold him still." She said.
All of a sudden out of Emma's hand and a green glow came out and surrounded me. suddenly I felt better. My body felt lighter and healthier. The green glow started to subside. Until it disappeared completely.
I started at her dumbfounded.
"There you go, is it all better now." She said to me.
"Your healing magic has always been a great help." Leon said to Emma.

What was that? Magic? healing magic? is there magic in this world? can I use it too?
"Ohh stop it, it's just basic healing anyone can learn it at that level." She said jokingly.
"Are you making fun of me because I never learned healing magic?" Leon said irritated.
"Perhaps." Emma said gigging then took a long look at Leon's face.
Leon awkwardly stared back at her.
Their faces coming closer and closer to each other.
What kind of cringe performance is this? They're like teens in love. And, I'm right in the middle.
"Agh." I said while wiggling in Leon's arms.
"Huh? What is it?" he said.
I put my legs down signaling that I wanted to get down on the floor.
"Okay." Leon said. Then put me on the floor.
As I was walking away they seemed to continue where they left off.
"Ahh, you stink like vomit. You should wash your face better." I heard Emma say.
"S-sorry, I'll do that." Leon said quickly.
I was thinking of the recent events while walking down the hall.
If I could also learn magic. That'd be a nice distraction. I know Leon keeps a lot of books in his study. Maybe I could find something there to help me.
I went outside to the backyard and I found a little girl sitting by herself on the grass looking at the cloudy sky.
Hanna, my "sister" of this world. I've never had a sister so I don't know how to interact with her. She is so distant maybe I should try talking to her.
Once I decided, I made my way to where she was sitting and stood in front of her. We made eye contact.
"Hi." I said with a wave of my hand.
"Hi." she responded.
Then everything was silent.
That's it. This is awkward.
"Wat yhu doin." I said.
My speech is still imperfect. I need to work on it more.
"I'm just relaxing." she said. Then she laid down on the grass.
"Cahn I join yhu." I said.
"Sure."
At her approval, I laid down beside her.
I turned to my side to look at her. "Are yhu mad aht me?" I asked her.
"Why would I be mad at you?" she said. Then turned to face me.
"Yhur face." I said while poking her cheek.
"Yeah, that's just my face." She said while moving my finger away. Then she took a long look at me "You're weird." she said curving up her lips into a smile.
"Why?" I asked curiously.
"You're always so calm and rarely cause trouble." She said.
"Yhu too." I said.
"Well, I used to cause a lot of trouble for mom and dad. But when you were born you were always so relaxed, almost like you didn't care about anything at all. When I coused trouble, you would looked at me as if you were judging me." she paused.
Huh? I did? I don't even remember.
She continued. "And, I guess I kind of wanted to be like that too. So I started behaving like you. I guess I thought you were kind of cool."
Hmm, so I'm cool. I'm kind of moved by that.
"Sorry. To you it looked like I was mad at you huh?" she said.
I nodded.
"Well I'll be stopping now." she got up from the ground. "Well, I'm bored. Want to play a game?"
I nodded as I got up from the ground.
We spend the rest of the day playing around together. Until Emma came out and told us it was time to go inside. I'm not going to lie I kind of had fun, I haven't played like that since I was a kid.
The whole family was in the living room we called it a day and we were on our way to go to sleep.
"Hey, Arata. Want to sleep in my room tonight?" Emma asked me.
"Later." I said shaking my head.
"Well, okay. See you tomorrow." she said and walked away.
That's right I can't I need to do something.
After about an hour I snuck out of my room and made my way to Leon's study.
It's time to learn some magic.

I've discovered I don't do well at that. I'm just writing this thing and we'll see where it takes us, OK? Nothing every came easy to Ryan Shakespeare, but as an elite British Army sniper he had found a niche that suited him, right up to the point at which he found himself summoned to a world far from his own to fulfil the job of a champion.
