《The Billionaire's Pup》Chapter 48

I stepped out of the bathroom, covered in one of the silk robes placed on the rack inside the bedroom. By the time I was out, the sun was cracking through, and the moon had disappeared.

I passed off a silent yawn before turning my eyes to King who was seated on the couch near the bed. He was shirtless, wearing only pants and his leg was crossed over the other one.

"Hungry?" He asked.

I shook my head, tightened my robe, and sat on the end of the bed. "No, no, I'm just sleepy. I hadn't sleep properly and it was a long night."

He stood up from the couch and took my hand. We walked over to the other side of the bed, and I quickly went underneath the sheets while he closed the curtains. The room was completely blacked out after that with only some little rays of lights escaping from the corners.

He returned to the bed and placed his arm underneath my head. I rolled over to him, pressing my head against his chest while he wrapped his other arm around my shoulders and squeezed me in his embrace.

It was warm and everything I had wished for.

"Goodnight. Sleep well, pup." He whispered in my ears while slowly moving his fingers across the strands of my hair and cozying me to sleep.

"Goodnight." I murmured back and only in seconds, I was asleep, in another world, freed from all the worries.

Nearly six hours later, I forced myself awake. As much as I wanted to sleep for longer, I couldn't spend the whole day sleeping in bed. It would be unfair for King and the promise I had given him.

The curtains to the windows remained closed when my eyes peeled open. It was dark and cold inside the room until the door slightly creaked open.

"I thought you'd be sleeping till tomorrow morning." King said, his tone low as if he had just woken up a few minutes before me. My eyes trailed over to the cup of coffee he held in his hand.

Yeah, he just woke up.

"I wish I could." I spread my arms and fell back on the bed, desiring to sleep for another long day. The bed was comfortable, there was silence here and it just seemed like the perfect place to nap. "But, I can't." I picked myself off the bed and got down on my sore feet. My muscles throbbed in soreness as I walked myself over to the bathroom to splatter some warm water over my face.

Once done, I stepped back out and dried my face with a small towel.

"You could always sleep for longer." He suggested, now leaning against a wall, looking all perfect. He was hard to resist, to keep hands off him but I had to learn to.

Or did I really?

"I could but I know you'd get tired of watching me sleeping."

"I wouldn't mind." A smile curled over his lips.

My face turned red in embarrassment, "You watched me sleep?"

"Twenty minutes."

Heat collected all over my body before I quickly turned my head away from King. Flashes of the moments before we slept crossed my mind. It was strong and sensual—the sex. I felt something different and for some reason it continued to bother me.

I swallowed hard and decided to bring the confusion up with King. "When we were—intimate last night, I had this sudden urge to take over, to secure you and it was different. I had never felt like that before. I don't know if I should worry about that. It was wild and uncontrollable."

He timidly listened to me for a second before his expression changed into a proud smile. Setting the coffee aside on the table, he approached me and grabbed my hands, raising them to my chest level.

"It's completely normal in wolves to feel possessive about their mates—" Ah, mates. I had forgotten about that for a minute—about the fact that we were destined together by the Moon Goddess. "God, I've felt the same more than a thousand times when I'm with you. As for the urge, that comes from your wolf to mark your other half."

"Mark?" I cocked my brow.

"A mark is a claim on someone who belongs to you and vice versa. A mark from either side would bind our souls together, forming an unbreakable bond between our human bodies and our other form." He explained.

I mouthed an o before I closed my eyes and sighed, "So the feeling—it won't go away until I mark you?"

"It won't, not necessarily. If there is distance between us, the urge will leave by itself until I appear in front of you again. It's common to feel like that during sex as that's when we are the closest to each other," His arm looped around my lower back, and he pulled me in. I lowered my eyes in shyness as my cheeks turned even redder. "I've been inside you, Eos. You don't have to be embarrassed by anything."

The nervous bile in my throat disappeared a few moments later. I breathed a small sigh of relief. There was nothing to be shamed about, at least not in front of King. I wasn't just any girl to him. This—I—meant something to him and I needed to stop being afraid of him.

His mouth lowered, capturing mine before any other conversation could take between us. My hand curved around the back of his neck, and I pulled him deeper into a long-lasting kiss. There was no rise of any naughty feelings between us when we shared the kiss. The tingling between my legs that often came whenever King touched me wasn't there. Instead, there was something growing in my chest, another sacred emotion.

I pulled my mouth away from his lips, "I should shower and change."

He ran his thumb across my cheek while his eyes studied me, "Don't take too much time. I won't be able to resist the distance." He whispered, his mouth still closing to mine.

I smiled hard, "I won't. I promise."

"Good."

Once King walked away from the room, I returned to the washroom and undressed myself before hopping in the shower. Warm water caressed my skin, and, in that moment, I found myself in peace. Was this how peace felt like? It felt like the sweetest chocolate was sitting under my tongue and I was relishing every second of it.

My hands swarmed over to my stomach, near to where I had gotten bitten by King's wolf. There wasn't any bruise left, not since I shifted. The rest bruises on my body were healing as well, quicker than I had thought.

I stepped out of the washroom a few minutes later and wore a fresh pair of clothes that fitted my body. It took me a while to decide on which fit, I wanted to wear today. There were too many clothes to choose from and I couldn't think straight.

A few minutes more and I walked out of the room and into the lounge area of the stunning penthouse. The skies were blue with a dozen clouds scattered here and there. I was more than stunned to see the skyline under the daylight. The city looked a lot more beautiful in the morning than compared to what it looked like in the night.

I found King pacing near the fireplace while attending calls. Arnold passed me and I waved my hand at him.

"Good morning, Ms. Eos."

"Good morning, Arnold." I gave him a cheeky smile. He had to be a wolf.

Once King was free from attending his calls, he came over to me, held my hand and led me out of the penthouse.

"Is he a wolf?" I questioned in a low voice while watching Arnold walk ahead of us.

"My favorite one." King replied, tightening his hand around mine.

My heart raced a little in panic before it calmed down. I was going to see a lot of werewolves around King. I had to get used to the new life I had been gifted with.

Arnold drove us around the city for a few minutes before stopped by a restaurant for brunch. It was too late in the morning to have breakfast as we had woken up in the middle of the day.

The food was delicious, full of flavor and appetizing. There were several new things I had tried while live music played in the background. It felt like I was in a whole different world.

After we finished eating, we returned to the car and headed to next destination. When I questioned King where we were going, he didn't answer and simply mentioned it was going to be a surprise.

The ride was long, so I decided on checking my phone and replying to Beatrice after a long night of ignoring her completely. There were a dozen messages from her, never-ending.

Nighty nighty. Enjoy your date with your boyfriend.

I'm awake and so is Carol. I told her you were out for some work and will return sometime in the evening. She's going for work as well, so everything is settled in here!

The next few texts were images of Beatrice back in the library with her friend, finishing up the assignment. Only then I remembered to share the details about the assignment to King.

"There was something I wanted to tell you." I quickly said while closing my phone.

His attention diverted to me, "Tell me."

"My friend was in town, Beatrice, she goes to a university somewhere here and she's majoring in history. A part of her syllabus was to write an essay on the history of Frostford as that is the nearest town to city. She and her friend did dig up a lot of information about the town—" Anticipation and worry arched between his eyebrows as he continued to listen to me. "the founders, the attacks and the evacuation. You told me werewolves live in secrecy so I wasn't sure if that kind information should be published."

"Oh..." He trailed off and concern appeared in his eyes. "Thank you for letting me know. I'll handle this."

Handle?

What was he going to do?
