《The Solitary Sword Sovereign》Mysterious Old Man

Back in the other room, only seconds earlier, Alexa and crew were having a discussion of their own. After noticing that Will had soundproofed the room perfectly, Alexa had Merlin sound proof their own room through her own means so they could have a discussion. Just as the discussion was in mid gear.
"Your orders are simple, protect Solitary, he is a valuable asset to our-"
Boom!
A shockwave hit everyone in the room. Unlike Letty, the others were quite strong and were able to stand properly. With a wave of Ibrahim's hand, the dust in the room cleared.
Clang!
Clang!
Clang!
Silhouettes flashed as Will fought his assassin. Their bodies flashed in and out of the room. It was as if the opponent was teleporting in some odd manner and Will moved in pursuit. The sheer speed of his movement shocked everyone. The room was quite large, but not large enough to facilitate a fight on this scale, so it got wrecked within seconds. Before anyone could react, the duo created a hole in the wall and burst out of the building. They were on the 20th floor so it was quite a jump.
"Taiga! Report! Everyone else follows me!"
Taiga materialized next to Alexa and started running next to her as they burst out of the building
"I'm not sure what happened. All I can tell is that a user with a sword and an ability similar to mine is here! I am searching the database for more information!"
The moment the crew jumped out of the building, each of them used their own means to chase the fighting duo.
Caw Caw!
The giant eagle that they had all used to arrived from the skies and caught Gabby just before she hit the ground. The eagle caught up to the others. And as if by reflex the others all canceled their abilities and jumped on its back.

Now that they were outside the fight was more clear. Taiga's words made everyone frown. They all knew him well and knew exactly what he meant. Taiga had a move similar to teleportation but somewhat different. Either way, it was difficult to deal with. He was not the strongest of the group, but if he chose to run away, no one could stop him.
"Do we assist?" Said a somber Ibrahim.
Alexa thought for a moment, then she shook her head. "No, not yet. The assassin is strong, but we could use this to gage Solitary's abilities properly. Woodsy, standby to interfere if you think Solitary will lose his life."
"Hmph! Hmph!"
The fat Woodsy snorted twice to acknowledge receipt of the order.
…
Will was having a hard time defending himself. The enemy had some sort of teleportation ability. One that allowed him to appear anywhere near Will and disappear again. The assailant was an elderly man. He was dressed in black tights but his face was exposed. He was wrinkled and his facial hair was white. From his face alone one would think he was over 70. He had the appearance of an old man, but his movements begged to differ.
He attacked Will with a short sword. His mastery of the sword was impressive, far more than Will's who only knew basic stances. And he was much faster than Will. Not to mention he could move unhindered. Yet he still failed to touch a single hair on the boy's body. The old man was stunned. Considering his skill set and level Will should be dead by now, yet he was far from it. Will was just as baffled as the old man was.
'This isn't exactly teleportation. When he starts his attack he is somewhere near me but also far, that's what bloodlust is telling me. So that means..'

Many ideas ran through Will's mind, and that's when it happened, the old man switched his tactics. He appeared a few meters ahead of Will, who was standing on an instantaneously made ice sheet, and launched a water blade.
It was long, thin, and sharp. The sound it made was similar to that of a whistle. Will timely dodged, and the old man used that time to disappear.
Then from nowhere and barrage of water blade like attacks assailed Will from all directions.
'Since you can block one attack, try this!'
But the result was not what he expected. There was a white flash and an explosion. Once the air cleared Wil was safe and sound. The old man had seen every single detail clearly. Every single water blade was turned into ice up contact with Will's sword and smashed into pieces, in other words, Will blocked them all!
The old man was at level 95, much higher than Will. Who was on level 74. Will would be a much higher level if had become a state lord. He reached the level 74 cap while he was in the dungeon. The moment he became a state lord his level would also increase according to how much experience he had stored in his body.
As for how Will had blocked the water blades from a level 95 warrior, it was simple. He had opened the first door! Once one opens a door for the first time, opening it again is much simpler and quicker. Just like the objects from which they got their names, doors can be opened and closed. Will had chosen to close both his doors in order to make training harder. Now he had no choice but to open one door because this old man was powerful.
With increased speed and reflexes, Will smoothly dealt with all of the water blades that had been aimed at him. There were many other ways Will could have dealt with this situation, but he still chose the path that allowed him to grow the quickest. Will's water comprehension was lacking to his sword comprehension, but he had far more attacking power with water, due to the advantages of his class. Hence Will's current goal was to increase his comprehension of the Dao of water while strengthening his sword technique and power.
'He is supposed to be just above level 50, this fighting power is far above level 80, just what is he? Did he level up in the time it took for me to come here? Impossible! If it was that easy then everyone in the world would be a powerhouse. Just what trick is this boy using!'
The old man couldn't wrap his head around Will's development, and neither could Alexa and co.

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
