"There's my girl"
He grinned,
coming up from behind you in the mirror,
a soft sigh leaving your mouth.
"I don't like this dress daddy"
You breathed out,
looking down at the material,
trying to find the words to describe it.
"It's too..."
"Sexy?"
He teased you,
a playful smirk forming on his lips.
"I think it's nice hm?"
"I don't want to go to the club"
You answered him quietly.
"I want to stay here and watch movies
and play with toys and-"
"I know,
alright?"
He cut you off firmly,
intense blue eyes on you.
"It's just for one night.
Make people think you're normal
for a few hours huh?"
"I am normal"
You furrowed your eyebrows.
"Sure you are doll"
He laughed like it was funny,
leaving you standing there to place
on the cuff links to his shirt,
checking himself in the mirror from behind you.
"You ready?"
"I guess"
You mumbled,
following him hesitantly down
to the car from the apartment.
******
"Would it hurt 'cha to just act like a fucking adult once in a while?"
He scoffed,
noticing you in the rear view mirror,
staring out of the window as the city
passed by in flashes,
looking somber.
"I don't want to act like an adult"
You avoided his eyes.
"Look,
I just need you to fucking turn up and show ya face.
You can just sit there.
Is that too fucking much to ask huh?"
"I hate it when you make me do things,
daddy"
You tried to argue with him.
"I don't want to be an adult
and I don't want to go to a stupid club!"
"That's enough"
He told you firmly,
shutting you down.
"Keep ya mouth shut and don't interrupt

me when I'm talking,
alright?
You know what im gonna do to you
if ya do little girl"
"I won't"
You huffed,
turning away from him.
******
Sitting there,
you tried to be quiet like he told you to.
Smoke clouding in the room
by loud men with cigarettes,
guns tucked into their belts like there
could be trouble at any moment,
his eyes falling onto you every so often to make sure you were behaving yourself,
Almost like a warning.
All you could think about the entire time is what you could have been doing at home instead.
Safe in your own little bubble back
at the apartment and not pretending
to be someone you were not,
surrounded by people you had
nothing in common with.
You thought to yourself.
Interrupting your trail of thought,
Jack Napier stood up from the luxury leather couch,
sorting through a wad of notes in his hand,
pressing a few into your little one.
"Be a doll and go get daddy some drinks hm?"
He asked you lowly,
not really giving you any other choice,
pulling out a cigarette and placing
it between his lips as he lit it.
Taking the money,
you held it close to you as you pushed
through the crowds of drunken and rowdy people,
trying to get to the bar to order the drinks
so you could get back to the private room
where you felt safer,
as soon as possible.
You willed yourself in your head the whole time you were trying to make it back to the private room,
carrying the tray in your little hands,
cautious not to tilt the drinks.
Appearing through the beaded curtains,
the room was entirely empty apart
from a few men he had left behind
to keep an eye on the place until he got back

from an arms deal taking place down at the docks.
"Where's my daddy?"
You furrowed your eyebrows,
asking one of his men.
"He went out"
One of them told you firmly,
not giving you much else to go off of.
"Said he'd be back in a little while.
Now you just sit down and be a good girl huh?"
"But I ordered all of these drinks and had to carry them through all of those people"
You breathed out,
standing there in your cute little pinafore dress,
still holding the tray.
"So?"
He scoffed,
snatching a glass from the tray carelessly,
tilting it towards his lips to take a sip.
"I'm sure somebody'll drink 'em"
"You're a rude man"
You choked out without thinking,
having an outburst.
"You're a bully
And I hope that drink kills you
because you deserve it!"
"Cute"
He chuckled at you,
a smirk forming on his lips.
"I'll tell ya daddy you said that hm?"
"I don't care what you tell him"
You huffed,
furrowing your eyebrows
as you took your place on the fluffy rug
beside your toys,
opening your colouring book and
taking the lid off of your pen,
pouting.
"My daddy doesn't care if I call you a bully
because it's true and he said that
I should always tell him the truth!"

Hello? Traveler? Hi. My name is Silas. I’m the Chronicler around here. Might I entreat you to stay with us a while? Our warp-drives run on inspiration—a volatile fuel collected from the active minds of the artists, writers, and musicians among us. But the clock runs out—the Heartless in their scarships seek to destroy all that is beautiful, systematically deconstructing all creativity in order to fuel their weapons and feed their evil powers. Moonshot
Gregarious businessman Evin Tumble is fascinated by the sudden and inexplicable appearance of a low-orbiting moon. Specifically, he's interested in shooting it down with a giant cannon. The moon is only about eight miles overhead, but it's high enough and quick enough that nobody can reach it by balloon or airship. He hires our protagonists: taciturn Iseult Morrin, cheerful Sean Whelan, and nervous Íde Ceallaigh, to help him with his obsession. As our heroes are dispersed across the continent to perform tasks for Tumble, and the moon-hunt draws closer, they become increasingly suspicious of their benefactor's motives and true nature. Moonshot is a story centred around struggling with confidence, the difficulty of being an immigrant, and the duality of truth, all clad in the trappings of an urban fantasy. It is character-driven, from the heart, and based on tropes and ideas that are missing from a lot of contemporary fantasy (a push beyond the flawless-yet-somehow-still-needs-rescuing-by-an-oafish-man heroine trope, a touch of cosmic magic based on the shared geometries of Celtic and Arab art).
