《A Fungal Dream》Chapter 62. Green Footsteps.

“Commander, we have a problem.”
The man sitting behind a desk filled with papers, not batting an eye about the terrified look of the guard.
He knew that the man before him was new, and newbies would always overreact to any small monster wave.
“You can probably manage it. Just ask the senior guards to-“
“No Commander! They do not know what to do! We need orders?”
“Sigh…Alright. I am coming. But it better be serious, or I throw your asses to payless overtime.”
The commander stood up and walked out of his office.
Around him, the guards ran around each looking afraid and shouting confusing nonsense.
“What the hell is happening?”
Picking up his speed, the commander looked out one of the windows that was cut into the stone walls.
“…Holy shit.”
In the distance, a giant green monster was walking toward us, followed by a cloud of bird-looking things.
“Gods above, what is that thing?”
“What are we going to do?”
The commander looked at the guard, his voice shaking.
“Are you stupid? Send a bloody message to the capital! There is a Leviathan class monster coming towards us! Call the SSS-class adventurers! Call Appraiser JAX!”
*****
“Can’t we go faster?”
I looked at Darkness with rage.
For a week, the bastard has been doing nothing but complaining about every little detail.
‘I have nowhere to sit, make me seat slave.’ ,’ This room is too dim, make more light.,’ ‘It's ugly here, bring all the gold up here.’
Now the ‘main room’ of this abomination, was filled to the brim with useless gold coins and treasures.
On the big pile of trash was a golden throne on which Darkness sat, with a crown on his head. His eyes were filled with the glitter of greed, as he was eyeing the scenery outside.
So that he could see the things before us, he demanded the demolition of the front part of the church.
It wasn’t beneficial at all, considering that the church was in the smack dab middle of the monster's back.
All he could see now was the white flower field with the remaining ruins of the buildings poking out amongst them.
What was pissing me off, even more, was that he kept these black bindings on me as I was kneeling on the only patch of mold in the room, controlling the entire thing.
Pushing back the anger I had in me, I talked in a low voice.
“Master… we are going at maximum speed. Going any faster would make the whole thing unstable and it could collapse.”
I wasn’t lying about that, it was a miracle that this thing even could walk, considering how heavy it was. Not to mention the energy this thing needed to move.
Currently, I used the imps as scavengers to bring various monsters so that the mold could absorb them and use their flesh as fuel.
It's worth mentioning that because of this asshole, I had to summon more of those little monsters. So that they wouldn’t be consumed by the entity we moved in, I infused them with my usual stuff, turning them into mold imps.

They were bigger than their blaze cousins, with bulky muscles and large wings that could carry a person easily.
“If you allow me, I need to see you here. I might be able to make the monster go faster.”
“…Alright but do it fast. I want to reach our destination as soon as possible.”
Snapping his fingers, the shackles holding me down disappeared.
Bowing, I stepped on the patch of mold, allowing myself to sink through it, falling into the room under the center room.
‘You came.’
“Yes, I did.”
This room, the holding cell as he called it, was where he kept her.
She was lying on the floor, surrounded by flowers.
Even with the healing and her connection to the mold reestablished, she still looked extremely weak.
Somehow, her entire body looked withered, except for her stomach which was still glowing with gently green light.
“I will give you some energy.”
‘No… there is no…’
Not listening, I gently placed my palm on her shoulder, connecting us before slowly pumping my energy into the other body.
Immediately her body seemed to become greener, but the second I stopped, her condition returned.
‘I told you… What he did to me… it can’t be healed.’
Hearing these words, somehow hurt my heart. As if a dagger was stabbed right through my chest.
“…Don’t worry. I have a plan to save you. Just stay strong for me.”
‘…Alright… I love you.’
“…”
I couldn’t answer her. I did feel something, but I couldn’t tell if that was love or something else.
I gave a gentle kiss on her hand before standing up and walking to one of the walls of her prison.
“Open.”
When a hole opened up, I walked through it, entering the place where I was planning my revenge against that guy.
“The retard.”
I haven’t collected all the gold in that city. I also took every magical device I could find and brought them here.
That idiot was so occupied with savoring his current position that he didn’t notice that I had stashed away all these weapons.
“Now I only need to wait for him to release War and I can go nuclear. Still, there is one thing I can be grateful for him.
As I was shackled down and moved to this giant thing, I finally found the perfect name for the science I was using.
The ability to manipulate organic matter using my mold, turning them into tools or entirely new species. It was still in the stage of me only using a mold and things that were consumed by it, but one day I shall be able to manipulate untainted flesh as clay. One day… I shall become human through my science.
And that powers name was-
“Biopunk.”
The second I uttered these words several notifications popped up before my eyes.
[Several Gods are amazed by your tenacity and will to learn]

[…]
As the notifications started to pop up one by one, the world around me seemed to change.
No, it stayed the same, it was my perception of it that shifted.
I could see how the cells of the living being reacted with each other.
As if a veil was taken off my eyes, I finally saw the world as it was.
Instinctively, I reached out to one of the magical devices, which happened to be a staff made from a reddish metal.
“….How do I use these? Is there a manual or a tutorial video?”
*****
Darkness POV:
In the empty throne room, Darkness was furiously tapping his golden throne, his eyes were darting around, expecting to be attacked.
“He is taking his time. Is he planning to kill me? No, I am here. Till I have here I am in control. I am in control.”
As he muttered, flashes of memories passed through his mind.
His childhood consisted of nothing but his father abusing him and locking him in a dark cellar. His brothers hit and mock him, going as far as killing his pet dog.
His mother didn’t even look at him. The classmates who abused him. His wife literally stabbed him in the leg once because he was breathing too loud.
A life of pure hell. Till this power came to him.
He killed everyone who abused gaining control.
He finally had freedom over his life.
Till History showed up. Oppressing him through his powers makes him obey his every command like a good dog.
“Not any longer.”
With War and Putrefaction at his command, he could take down History and become the leader of the apostles.
“Hmmm, I have some time. I could use it for some… fun.”
Snapping his finger, the dark portal appeared.
From it, slowly the unconscious body of War slides out.
Her entire black armor was gone, her naked body was covered by her black underwear and the shadow chains that were holding her.
Darkness gently caressed her smooth stomach, a perverted smile showing up on his face.
“You have been a bad girl.”
While speaking, he pushed away the girl’s body, the chains holding her up in the air.
“It's time for your punishment. Shadow Whip.”
Laughing, he cracked his weapon, slamming it at her body.
“COME ON! WAKE UP AND SCREAM!”
He slashed his whip a couple of times, spraying blood everywhere, the sound of his laughter echoing in the broken church.
“You bastard! Fireball!”
Boom!
From a dark corner of the church, a small ball of flames flew out hitting him right in the hand holding the weapon.
“AAAAAAAA!”
Screaming in pain, he made the whip disappear; at the same time, the chains also vanished, dropping the still unconscious bloodied body of War on the ground.
“WHO DARES?!”
He looked in the direction of the attack, holding his burned hand, tears gathering in his eyes.
“What, already crying? It was only a warm-up.”
Rising from the ground a figure walked out.
“W-Who the fuck are you?!”
The Figure who came out looked like a bulky knight.
His bulky looked incredibly shabby, not a single part of it belonging to each other.
On its back was a big quiver-looking bag, full of a magic staff.
In the knight's hand was another staff that had a burning tip.
“Me? Have you gone blind? I am the fucker who is going to break your face into the back of your skull!”

From the Final World
I have lived a long, long time. Longer than the universe knows; longer than any star has seen or traveling light records. My memories; that is all that is left that knows that length, and that which was seen within it. Then again, that is all that ever did. When I am gone, it will be forgotten, a truth and a history lost forever no matter who or what tries to find it. I think that is why I write this now. A record, or a lament, of the most significant being of all time. It is a prideful exaltation of endless triumph, or the dread condemnation of infinite evil. I don’t know which; I shall leave it for others to judge. I could explain further, of course. I could list the sins that have been committed, the deeds that have been done. Yet for now, I believe this is enough. Her story will speak for itself. About the good, and evil, in the heart of a single girl burdened with more than her fair share. And how she reacted to it. So, I will tell her story. Of gods and devils, mortals and monsters, of legends long forgotten and civilizations long turned to dust. And in the end, I hope she knows herself, whether it is salvation, or destruction, she should receive.

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
