《LONE: The Journey Beyond》62. Hidden Intentions…?

The Manti-orc leader cursed loudly as he saw the supposed Corpse Manipulator.
He then looked at the other Manti-orcs and said "Hurry Up! We can't delay it more. Or else we won't be able to leave."
As the others heard him they also extended their blades like finger nails and aimed them towards the necks of the group.
Just as they were going to slit the throat of the group…
Felix who was running towards them shouted as he threw the staff of the Corpse Manipulator at the Manti-orc leader.
!!!
This flabbergasted the Manti-orc leader.
GRAAAAAHHHH-!
The Corpse Manipulator also shouted in rage as he used a spell…
[Dark Assimilator]
A wave of dark energy brushed passed the battlefield and wrecked the entire area into a destructive wasteland. While his staff was exuding intense pressure as it fell in the middle of the array.
Aimee and the other who were running towards them used the thrusters of their Nano-Suit to fly up and save themselves from the extreme amounts of dark energy the Corpse Manipulator was emitting.
The so-called Boss Monster aka the Corpse Manipulator was now showing his true prowess, literally decimating the entirety of the inner region of the dungeon.
If not for the heavy nature of the darkness element he was proficient in he would have killed everyone in the vicinity by now.
The heavy pressure that his aura was generating was giving a mind-boggling pressure to everyone else.

While everyone was in haywire…
Reven shouted while looking at the Manti-Orc leader "If we do not fight together we all will die. We both know that thing is still holding back or else this entire dungeon will destabilise and implode."
Reven spoke the right words. The Corpse Manipulator was indeed holding back as he didn't want to destroy his own dungeon.
As for how he deduced this was because of the Dungeon Analysis by the Empress which clearly explained him that these spaces were extremely fragile and were not prone to Space-Time Continuum –the stability factor of any spatial area.

If his dungeon was totally destroyed, then he would have to take refuge in another planet which was not something desirable for him.
His personal security might come to risk as well because of this but if the things escalate as they have been till now then it would become inevitable. So they need to unite and fight it together.
"You humans won't even be able to act as meat shield." The Manti-orc leader frustratingly chided.
"At least we can try to divert his attention so that you can attack it." Baltimore, the dwarf said.
Seeing this Natalie, the elf also said "Our unique abilities might be able to at the least divert its attention."
"Yes… C'mon we do not have enough time." Reven insisted again.
'Guys use Ardor-Plasma Beam (APB) at the skeleton bastard and delay it as much as possible. We want a sure fire way to get out of here so we have to wait until we are 100% sure that the strike will give us the desired results.'
At the same time, Reven sent a mind-message to Aimee and the others to use their trump card against the skeleton so that they could block the skeleton for some more time.
'Got it. But do it fast we can at most stop it for about 10 minutes. So HURRY UP!!!"
Aimee replied as she turned around to look at the Corpse Manipulator and ordered.
"Felix you will handle the undead and hold them back. Everyone else use APBs and attack the skeleton."
"GOT IT!!!" The others acted as soon as they got the orders.
Except for Felix, everyone came towards each other and held their hands.
Then Aimee ordered-
"Empress Initiate APB Protocol."
[Order received.]
[Preparing for the APB Protocol.]
[Checking the systems.]
[CLEAR!]
[Checking the requirements of energy source.]
[Energy source sufficient.]
[Activating APBs.]
As soon as the Empress's prompt was heard in the minds of the group, a vast amount of Ardor was sucked into the Ardor Core of their Suits.

Then their Ardor Core separated from their suits and formed a circle by swirling around in front of them.
This all happened in mere 5 seconds.
[Ready to fire in…
5… 4… 3…

.
.
.
[FIRE!]
"FIRRREEEEE!!!!!"
'Empress' and the group shouted at the same time.
BUZZZZZ-!
Ssuussuunnng-!
*WRING* *WRING* *WRING*
WRIIIIINNNNNGGG-!
The swirling Ardor Cores incresed their pace of revolving as vast of amounts of Ardor was constantly getting sucked into the ring from the group.
And…
An intense beam of Ardor mixed with condensed light particles –Photon was released from the ring towards the Corpse Manipulator.
BOOOOOOMMMMM-!
DUZZZZZZZ-!!!...
And hit him with extreme force.
AARRRGHHH-!
The Corpse Manipulator shrieked sending shock waves in the surrounding.
Felix was constantly interrupting the march of the undead alone.
He couldn't kill them because there was a huge strength difference but using his [Shadow Walk] he made their advancement extremely slow by interrupting them time and time again.
DUZZZZZ-!...
Meanwhile, Reven was constantly shouting "C'MON YOU BASTARDS RELEASE US THEN WE CAN AT LEAST FIGHT THIS TOGETHER."
The Manti-orc lord himself was thinking that maybe it would be better to add them in the battle.
The heavy pressure coming from the Corpse Manipulator was already not allowing them to activate the array.
The staff which was the reason for all this was in the middle of the array where the Manti-orc leader was also standing but intense pressure it was exuding was preventing him to even touch it much less moving it so that they could restart the fight.
Actually this pressure was not formed due to [Dark Assimilator] spell of the Corpse Manipulator but because of a combination of Aimee's [Energy Transfer] which made its innate pressure increase a hundred fold and Felix's secret technique.
[Heart of Darkness] which he created to amply his darkness attributed properties after getting inspiration from Ardor.
This technique gave the dark attributed properties of the staff extreme kinetic energy which was further enhanced to make it so that anyone who looked at it would feel as if it was giving immense pressure except the simple way to get rid of that was to have a calm heart.
Which was impossible for anyone in this situation unless they knew about it from the beginning!
What were Reven's Hidden Intentions here?... No one knew… Or maybe the others knew and were acting as per the plans.
Back to the battlefield, the Manti-orc leader finally couldn't help but say "Release them we will be fighting the Corpse Manipulator."
The moment he said that…
Reven checked his status window once to confirm his new found strength in the [Life-Force Body Sheath Realm].

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]
