《Banded》Chapter 53

The armoury was packed. Wall to wall, every inch of it was filled with weapons. Some the likes of which Wren had never seen before. He’d thought that with two classes having already been and gone, both containing forty or more students, that there would be hardly any weapons left to choose from. But in fact it was quite the opposite. They’d barely scratched the surface. If each recruit took three weapons, then there would still be enough left for a small army. He shouldn’t have been surprised though. They were in the middle of a war, with both the Enoi and monsters so it was kind of a necessity to have a good supply of arms. He just hadn’t expected the supply to be so large.
He moved over to the wall that contained the swords. It was everyone’s first instinct. When you thought about a weapon, you thought about swords. They were arguably the most simple and versatile of weapons as they were quite easy to use; all you had to do was stick them with the pointy end after all. There were many kinds of swords scattered all across the wall, short swords, great swords, katana’s, rapiers, scimitars, even a bastard sword. Wren had no clue why he knew it was called a bastard sword or why it was even called a bastard sword but he recognised it all the same. The great swords like the one that Liam had been carrying looked too heavy for him, his build was slight and he didn’t pack much muscle so he figured he would need something to compliment that. He picked up a short sword and gave it a few swings, feeling its weight and balance. He didn’t really know what he was looking for, he’d never held a sword in his life, but he figured that he’d know when he had the right weapon.

He found it to be just a bit too heavy for him. He would be able to use it if he really tried, but he knew that he would just find himself getting tired way more quickly than he should. Instead he picked up the rapier, figuring that it was on the other end of the scale and would definitely be light enough for him to use. But after a few practice swings he put it down for a couple of reasons, for one he found it too flimsy, he could imagine it snapping in the middle of a fight and where would that leave him? Dead, that’s where. The second reason was that he just really didn’t like how it looked. Sure picking out a weapon that was best suited to you was important, but he also wanted to look cool while doing it. What was the point in being a super rare being with crazy magical powers if you looked stupid swinging about a stick in the middle of a fight?
He was running out of time, he’d spent almost five minutes looking at those two swords and he was lost. He looked to the other walls, one held long ranged weapons like bows and crossbows he probably wouldn’t have much trouble using them but he wasn’t sure about his accuracy, and besides, it wasn’t really his style. Another of the walls held heavy weaponry like hammers, maces and axes, he definitely would not be going anywhere near them. If he thought that the short sword was a bit too heavy for him then he would have no chance with an axe that looked to weigh three quarters of his body weight.
“You have five minutes left to pick a weapon.” Ash called out. “If any of you are struggling to pick a weapon, I would recommend a spear for this lesson. My weapon of choice is a spear so you will get the most out of this lesson by picking that.”

While the recruits had been walking about trying different weapons, she had been in the middle of the room studying them all. Some of the recruits instinctively knew what weapons they wanted. Having had some sort of previous training, all of the Legacies in the class went straight for their weapons of choice and milled about by the door waiting for everyone else to pick. Like Chadwick, some of the Legacies had brought weapons from home but the academy had stipulated that they had to be kept in the armoury when not used for lessons. Either way it made Ash’s job a whole lot easier. She wouldn’t have to worry so much about the Legacies and could instead focus instead on the recruits who were more inexperienced.
In response to her words, many of the recruits, including Wren, flocked to the wall of spears. They picked them up one after another feeling their weight. There were spears of all sizes as recruits were all of different heights. Wren picked up one of the smaller spears as he figured it would be easier to use. It had a nice balance to it, not too light like the rapier had been, but not too heavy that he wouldn’t be able to lift it.
Although it was well balanced and would do the job, the spear was nothing to write home about. There was no fancy design, it just a solid wooden pole with the spear tip melded onto the end. It was worn and faded from years of use and while the tip seemed sharp, it didn’t have the razor edge that Chadwick’s seemed to have; it was even chipped in places. Clearly the spear had been through a lot.
He didn’t have many other options though. There weren’t many other spears suitable for his size and they were rapidly being taken the girls in his class. He hated being short.
It would have to do though. Time was almost up and if he didn’t like it he would be able to change it out for something else in another lesson.
“That’s time people.” Ash told them.
Wren made his way over to the door where the Legacies had been hanging around. His was eager to start the lesson.

Horizon
Emiluna is about to turn 16 and gain access to her first two classes. Living in a small village in the middle of nowhere, she always wanted to become a Hunter. Having learned a bit under her parents, a miller and a seamstress, she was sure she could never pick a class that meant staying inside all day. But being a Hunter is more than just a class. It means providing meat for the village, culling small pests near the cultivated fields and most importantly guarding the village from predators and monsters. But Emiluna is not a normal girl and her destiny far bigger than she could have ever imagined.Join her as she finds out what awaits just behind the horizon.[Word from the author]I am looking to create a fantasy world that has some logic to it and stays believable even as characters gain power and progress in levels.Classes and level quantify the people's progress, but they do not artificially inflate their power to demi-god levels. I am primarily trying to write a captivating story, not "power-porn". That means it will be slower than the fast burning litRPG you might be used to, but it won't burn out that quickly either and I won't drop half of my plots at the wayside. I should mention that English is not my native language. I hope it is mostly unnoticeable, but sometimes I manage to slip some awkard sentence structure in there (German sometimes puts things together in reverse). It it also my first time writing an actual fantasy novel and the first time writing anything at length in English. Any constructive feedback is very welcome.Credit where credit is due: Cover picture by Paul Bica (Licensed under CC 2.0)Check out his amazing photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dexxusYes, my cover picture is a photo, not a drawing. :D I might try my hand at some Paint-ification later to add the title.[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

He grew up being bullied and ostracized by his peers. In junior high, he developed a crush on a girl in another school who greeted him with a smile. Later, he found out the girl's name was Lucy and applied to the high school she was going to. One year later, he musters up the courage to confess his feelings for her only to find out that she was the wrong girl all along. Suddenly, a piano falls on top of him and he dies.He finds himself in front of one that calls himself God. He takes pity on Misaka and bestows him with the name Durrendal. He gives him another chance at life in another world and lets him pick a power of his choosing to take into the world. Story is going to be heavy reader interactive. Expect short frequent chapters. One chapter every few days. Two per week minimum. If I feel like it, more than that.Your choices WILL influence the story. It determines whether you get a game over (may discover new information), go around in circles never advancing the story, or advancing the story. Consequences of certain actions will shift Durrendal toward evil or good. The default personality of Durrendal may be ""pervy"" but depending on the actions that he takes it can be reversed. Think of the character as a game character. You are playing a game. It does not require that you make an account to vote. So screw around or advance the story? It's up to you.

Naga rising (Final version)
Eshanai used to think that her life was pretty good, that the elders of her tribe of Naga sisters had their best interests at heart. But one suspiciously regular disaster after another sort of makes you question things. So when Eshanai decides to go out on the island to do the unthinkable, break some rules, and nothing terrible happens to her like the elders said it would, her questions start to multiply. What else could the elders be wrong about? Were the Naga really chosen by the spirits? And could there be other people out there, beyond their island? Follow Eshanai and some of her sisters as she tries to find a way to leave the island and comes up with increasingly creative ways to get into a certain Oni's pants. Author's note: This is not a rewrite of my original Naga rising story. It's more of a reimagining, as it contains many of the same characters and settings but will have a completely different plot. Be advised that the two are not related to one another. This should not be seen as any form of sequel or prequel story. So I have caught up to my backlog, and at first, I thought I could release a chapter once a week. That turned out to be unrealistic as I am writing in my spare time, so periods of inaction might not be uncommon. Some of the tags might not come into effect until later on in the story.

Why The Hell Not
Sweat started to form all around my body as the pain consumed me. It was 9pm and this had to be the worst wave of heat I've ever experienced! My body ached as the flames traveled from my core, spreading to the rest of my body. I hate heat, every type of heat, but mainly this one. Heat, in my pack, is a bitch! The second you turn 16 your heat starts. Then for the rest of your life you get a heat cycle once a month, as if having a period isn't bad enough. The heat happens right after your period, leaving you 2 weeks of peace as a woman if you find your mate your 16 years of life! If you did not find your mate at 16, when you turn 17 it will be every 2 weeks! Your period is still once a month, thankfully, but the heat cycle directly after your period is the strongest! Leaving you ONE week of peace...unless of course you don't find your mate by the time you turn 17. If you are unlucky enough to not have found your mate by the time you are 18, then yes it will be EVERY week! Leaving you NO peace!!Basically the longer you go without finding your mate, the more heat you will go through. If you're 20+ then it could be EVERY hour! Once you find your mate it goes back down to once a month, thankfully. Lucky, or lucky for me, I'm 17...meaning I've gotta deal with this every 2 weeks. This one in particular is the worst one yet! I grabbed the water on the side of my bed and tried to fix my dry throat.......
