《Dark Slate》Chapter 14: Journey To The North II

As we jumped down Felix, Monty, and I let out spell fire in all directions. All the spiders started moving towards us. I heard Luna yelp next to me.
We landed on the ground and the spiders quickly came at us from all sides. Luna next to me was horrified she fell back and covered her face.
"I can't. I can't. I'm sorry, but I can't." She yelled out on the floor.
The spiders were on us. I didn't feel scared this time. I stayed close to Luna. I pushed some back and sliced through others. Leon was right they are weak.
"Monty, Felix, Arata. Push them back. And don't let them come close."
At Diana's order, I pushed as many as I could back. Felix and I let out a repelling gravitational Barrier that didn't let any spiders come close.
"It seems you were right. Honestly, I didn't think her curse was that bad." Diana told me. "Go on get her out."
I nodded.
"W-wait. I-I can do t-this." she said slowly getting up.
"Are you sure?" Dianna asked concerned.
Luna nodded with determination.
"Prove it." Diana told her, then looked at me. "Arata. Bring one in."
I let a spider come close and pinned it to the ground in front of her.
Luna was inspecting it closely, then she took out her spear and was about to kill it. Before she did the spider let out loud screeching noises. She fell back to the floor in a panic.
"Sorry." she quickly got up.
"Let it go." Diana told me.
I did as she told me. We all stepped back and watched as Luna faced off against the spider by herself. She hesitated for a second before thrusting her spear right through it, cutting it in half.
"Ewww." She said standing covered in spider liquid. She took in a deep breath and looked around at the rest of the spiders that were running in place due to the barrier. "Okay, I think I can do this."
"Okay then, just like we planned before. Julian, Leon, and I will go for the boss. You all take care of the rest." She ordered. "Now, go."
Both Felix and I took down the repelling barrier. Since we couldn't concentrate on keeping it up and fighting at the same time.
Everyone spread out and unleashed attacks one after another. Except for Luna who was still close to me.
"Are you still not over this?" I asked.
"Not completely but with time I feel like I'll be alright." She said with a smile.
I nodded and continued slicing the spiders while making sure I'd stay close to Luna.
Since these were weak monsters I wanted to test out some of my skills. More specifically gravity. With it, I picked up as many as I could and brought them all together which ended up crushing them all to death.
I tried it again but this time I focused on a single point that brought them together. Strengthening it until everything in the surrounding area got pulled together creating an orb combined of stone and spiders. As I strengthened even more everything that was getting pulled in was getting crushed.
"AHHH! ARATA!!" Luna yelled as she almost got pulled in.
"Sorry." I immediately let go.
What was left behind was a giant spherical bolder.
"Wow, that was intense." She said.
"Come on, there's more coming." I told her.

"yeah." She got ready and was about to charge forward.
Before she did I applied the same force as before to a rock and threw it. Everything around it was getting pulled to it, the rock continued traveling forward. The spiders that were coming at us got pulled in and crushed. The giant spherical blob of spider and stone continued traveling until it crashed at the wall of the cave.
hmm, that move is very effective. Although it takes a lot of my mana to use. So I should probably not use it anymore.
After a few minutes of fighting, we finished killing all the small spiders. While Diana, Leon, and Julian finished killing the big boss.
We all regrouped at the center where there were various items on the floor.
"Hmm. It doesn't look like there was anything of value here. There's just old armor and weapons of dead adventurers." Said Julian.
"Looks like it." Replied Diana. "Well, let's get ready to move out."
Diana went up to the big spider and cut it open looking at its insides.
"Don't tell me we are going to eat that thing." I said in disgust.
Everyone looked worried for a second.
"No, Just checking something out." She responded. "Let's go now."
We got out of the cave without any problems and continued on our way. Once outside we were all walking in silence and Felix came up to me.
"Hey, earlier in the spider cave. What was it that you did when everything got pulled together?" He asked genuinely without yelling or sounding pissed off.
"Not much." I responded.
"Dammit! I asked you a question so give me an answer." He said sounding like his usual self.
There he goes again.
"It's simple, focus your gravity on a single point. It's easier on an object. That's pretty much it." I paused. "Unless. . . You can't do it."
"Oh, shut up." He said.
"Here." I picked up a rock and tossed it to him. "Try it."
He clicked his tongue.
He focused his magic on the stone for a second and after that, the stone got flung away.
"Failed, huh." I said simply.
"Ahh. Be quiet. I'm trying to concentrate." He yelled out angrily then picked up another stone and tried again.
After about an hour of walking, he still hadn't achieved the results he wanted. He let out a low grunt signaling another failed attempt.
"Failed again, huh." I said, knowing it would infuriate him more but he didn't say anything. "Look, pay close attention."
I picked up a rock and concentrated my magic until everything started to get pulled to it. Everyone stared at me in surprise at the sight of everything around us getting torn up and compacted down into a spherical shape.
It kept getting bigger and bigger until I was satisfied and stopped. There was a boulder size rock floating on top of my hand as a result. Then I let it drop to the ground beside me.
"Your turn." I said.
He didn't say anything again but he had a determined look in his eyes. He probably took what I said as a challenge and he won't back down.
He picked up a stone and stared at it intently. Fully concentrated, he focused his mana. After a second I felt a change in the air. Pieces from the ground we were standing on levitated and surrounded the stone making it into a big round ball of dirt and rock. Then it stopped.

"I did it." Felix said in shock.
Everything was silent as Felix was having his little moment of success.
"That's tiny." I said breaking that silence.
"Damn it, well not everyone is a freak like you." He yelled out looking back and forth between my stone boulder and his dirt ball.
"Wow, that hurt my feelings." I said clenching my chest with my hands.
"How the hell did you even sustain it that long? It took a lot of my mana just to make it like this." He said rising the dirt ball.
"Well, I practice magic a lot." I said.
"It could be that. . ." Monty said joining the conversation. "Or because you have a lot of mana."
"Well, I do have a little more than the average person." I said.
"Not just a little. You have almost double the size of my own and it's only going to keep growing." He said.
"Ohh wow, that's so cool." said Luna. "What have you been doing to have so much."
"I agree, it's impressive. I'm kind of jealous." Monty said.
"Don't tell me Leon forced you to do some kind of crazy training." Luna said.
Everyone eyed him suspiciously.
"W-what? I wouldn't do that." Leon responded quickly.
"Then why'd you stutter just now?" Luna questioned him further.
"When Arata was around two years old he learned magic from a book he read, that's all." Leon explained.
"That sounds ridiculous." Julian said.
"Well, that's what happened. Right, Arata?" Leon responded.
Everyone turned their gaze to me.
I nodded in response.
"So, you're saying that you were conscious of your behavior at that age?" Julian asked.
"Isn't everyone?" I said in a confused tone.
This is bad they might figure something out.
"Well, if it's a genius like you I suppose it makes sense." Julian said.
Huh?
"Yes, I agree. Arata is just that incredible." Luna said.
"Congratulations on having such a genius son, Leon." Monty told Leon.
"Ohh well. . . You know. . ." Leon blushed a little and looked at me. "It was all Arata's hard work, I wish I could've done more."
Everyone looked at me.
Feeling overwhelmed by their compliments my face turned red.
"Don't look at me like that." I quickly hid my face and turned around. "Your weirding me out." I said embarrassed.
"way to ruin the moment." Said Luna.
"Everyone. Stop talking about how great Arata is for a moment." Diana said. "There's trouble up ahead."
A group of lizard men were eating the remains of dead beasts in an open field. All armed with weapons and armor.
"what's the plan?" Julian asked.
"We charge forward." Diana said. "Arata throw the boulder you made to their location. We'll use that as a distraction to get close."
I positioned myself behind the boulder and with gravity, I picked it up. I concentrated a large amount of magic to use it as a repelling force to launch it forward.
"I don't have very good aim." I said looking and the boulder going a little off course.
"Doest matter." Diana said. "Now. Let's go."
At her words, we all followed behind Diana.
The loud crash of the boulder stole the lizard's attention for a minute giving us just enough time to close in on them. There weren't that many so I quickly chose a target and got myself ready.
I dashed forward and slashed diagonally. The lizard dodged and backed away faster than I had expected.
Diana told me about these types of monsters. They specialize in speed more than anything else.
If I want to beat this monster I need to concentrate on my speed.
I glanced around for a second noticing that Diana, Leon, and Julian were way faster than their opponents. Each of them easily overpowering them.
Have they been holding back all this time?
Felix had his stone body activated while trying to figure out a way to crush the lizard. Luna was also fast but not as fast as the other three. Monty is a mage so he's fighting from a distance.
All right.
I took a deep breath and calmed myself down to focus on my mana distribution.
Here I go.
I charged straight for the lizard and slashed at its neck. I was definitely faster this time but it still dodged and with its sword, it swung up at me. I blocked it but the lizard immediately threw a series of slashes. The attacks are very fast that I'm barely able to keep up with them.
This reminded me of my daily sparing with Leon. Except that Leon has a style with the sword that was forged from all his training and battles throughout the years. While the lizard only swings the sword without technique.
I need to be faster.
A loud ringing sound could be heard as I struck the lizard's sword repeatedly blocking strike after strike. Then I started attacking myself and pushed the lizard back I quickly followed this time faster than the last. I swung, slicing at the lizard's rib cage area.
I took another swing but it dodged and hissed at me.
Both the lizard and me charged at each other at the same time and clashed. With fast movements we both circled around each other striking when there was an opening and defending from a deathly blow.
Our speed is the same.
But I'm about to go even faster.
The lizard swung openly at me. And with an even faster movement, I sliced its hand off. Without wasting any time I swung diagonally, slicing through its chest. Using the momentum from the previous swing I spun around and chopped its head off.
I heard whistling from behind me. Once I turned I saw Leon, Julian, and Diana looking at me.
"What?" I said.
"Ohh nothing, we're just here in case you needed help." Leon said.
I looked around and noticed that Luna, Felix, and Monty were still in battle.
"you should've gone to them instead." I said pointing my finger.
"That's what I said. I knew you could handle yourself, but your father insisted we come to you." said Diana
"H-hey." said Leon embarrassed.
"Well, let's go over there." I said.
"I agree. Let's go." Diana said.
Just like that the four of us were on standby in case Felix, Luna, or Monty needed help.
The first to finish was Monty. Followed by Luna. shortly after that finished Felix.
"Aha, you were last." I teased Felix.
"Shut up. I was just toying with it until I got bored." He said loudly.
"If you say so." I responded.
The rest of the party was looking at us in amusement. The sun was going down so we started preparing for the night.
