As I basically stalked Cole, I could only hear his side of the conversation. But it was a very strange conversation. He still seemed stressed, but had started relaxing after his conversation progressed with the unknown caller.

"Yeah. She's here with me. She's upstairs looking for her new room," Cole said softly, trying to stay quiet but I could almost hear the happiness in his voice when he spoke of me. Wait. Why is he talking about me, though? Oh god, what's going on? I thought to myself as I gasped softly. Maybe he's just talking to a friend or something. Someone who knew he was adopting. I used that thought to soothe my anxious curiosity and continued to listen in.

"I think that she will adjust well. She seems to like me and Tara well enough already. I just hope she gets along with the pack," there was a pause as Cole listened to the caller's response. "I'm just grateful we've found her after so long. Yeah, I know. Me, too. I still have trouble believing that her father is truly gone, even after all this time," Cole said sadly.

I gasped again. He knew my father? Like my real father? He knew him? How?

"I can't believe that either. I mean, on one hand I understand. Her mother has a lot of responsibility, but Stella is her blood born daughter and she just abandoned her. I get that she has a lot of us to look after, and she has more responsibility than we will ever know about, but still," Cole ranted, trying to keep his voice down as he got heated. There was another pause as the caller spoke.

"Wait what? She did? When did she postpone that to? Her eighteenth birthday? Oh, no. That's right around the corner. I think her birthday is in like two or three months. We have to tell her, I just don't want her to feel betrayed. I already love her so much, as if she were my own daughter," Cole said, his voice swelling with emotion. "Alright, Alpha. I'll tell her on Saturday. Then I'll bring her in to meet you on Sunday. Well, it'll be better if it comes from me, Alpha. We've already built a rapport, and gotten to know each other a bit. She will trust us much more than a stranger, sir. Mhmm. Yea, exactly. She's never been around her kind before. No one has prepared her. Yes, sir. I will stay by her side and help her adjust. Alright, Alpha that sounds like a plan. I'll see you Sunday," Cole finished his conversation and sighed heavily, resting his head on the countertop of the island.

Cole snapped his head back up, so I turned and ran for the stairs, trying to make myself scarce before he realized that I was listening in on his conversation. My silent steps quickened when I heard the scrape of the kitchen stool on the floor, signaling that Cole was coming up to fetch me. I panicked, and opened a bunch of doors to make it seem as though I looked around. I could hear Cole's footsteps echo off of the steps. I entered one of the rooms and looked around, so that I actually could pretend I was looking around like I said I would be.

Cole came into the room behind me, but he ended up being so quiet that I didn't even know he was there until he put a hand on my shoulder and spoke.

"Find your room yet?" Cole asked. I shrieked and spun around on my heels quickly, choking on my spit for a second. I caught my breath easily but was unable to calm my racing heart. I shook my head slightly and turned back to the room before me.

"No, not yet, I've been enjoying looking at all of these lovely rooms, though," I said, trying to make sure my voice was even, I didn't want to give away the fact that I'd been eavesdropping.

The bedroom we were currently in was beautiful, open, and simple. The large bed was covered in simple white bed sheets and had a dark wooden frame. The dresser and mirror matched the dark wood, but the nightstands on either side of the bed were white painted wood with silver lamps on top.

"This is mine and Tara's bedroom," Cole said as he guided me back out towards the hallway. We walked down to the last door on the right, stopping dead in his tracks with one hand resting on the doorknob. Cole seemed a little nervous as he started speaking.

"We tried to pick a relatively neutral color. So if you don't like it, we can always paint it a different color and redecorate it," Cole said sheepishly as he turned the knob and pushed the door open.

The best bedroom ever waited for me on the other side. Cole was worried about the color but they actually ended up painting it my favorite color. Rich, amber orange walls with white accents welcomed me. A king sized bed with orange and white bed sheets sat in the middle of the room, a white nightstand off to the side, a medium sized tv hung on the wall opposite the bed, a beanbag chair and little loveseat sofa sat on the far side of the room right under the window which was covered by orange sheer curtains. A huge walk in closet hid behind a white door and behind a second white door an attached bathroom waited for me.

I squealed with excitement and jumped up and down, completely ecstatic. Cole's face morphed between shock and confusion before settling on excitement. I jumped on Cole and hugged him rightly, still squealing slightly.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you! Oh, my god. I love it!!" I couldn't stop shrieking with excitement. Cole seemed surprised by my sudden burst of affection and energy, but didn't hesitate to return my hug, just as fierce.

"Of course, sweetpea. So, is it safe to say you like it?" Cole teasingly asked. I pulled back and made a silly face at him.

"Guh-doy! I love it! It's actually my favorite color!" I laughed excitedly.

"Oh, wait seriously? Well, talk about a lucky break," Cole joked.

"Yea, no kidding," I giggled as we walked back out of my new bedroom.

The conversation I had overheard Cole having with the unknown caller wasn't forgotten. But Cole had said he would tell me about whatever it was on Saturday. It was only Tuesday. I could live that long without knowing whatever was going on. Cole was also insistent that he be the one to tell me whatever he had to tell me because he didn't want to betray my trust. Knowing that he already loved me like a daughter just allowed me to further trust him. He didn't know I was around and freely admitted how he felt. So I decided to trust him. Just as much as Cole already loved me like his own daughter, I had already started to love him like my father. So I'd trust him and believe in him. Whatever his plan was, I would trust my father.
