Unfortunately, I think that this is all we have time for. Zeke’s words through Corva’s inner voice reverberates in her mind. He jumps off of Corva’s shoulder, landing in front of her. The smell of sweetgrass permeates the air. Unexploded bundles of winged dynamite litter the ground all around them.

“Time to pick another memory?” Corva places her hands on her knees and catches her breath. Sweat steams off her skin in the cool evening air.

No. Time to face Thegn. Or the ground. He takes a moment to soak in his surroundings. I’ve got to say, though, this last memory was a masterful choice. I had no idea that this would work in the memory of a dream. He returns his gaze to Corva. Or that you had dreams with me in them.

Corva, still a bit out of breath, keeps one hand on her knee, but uses the other to point at the little monkey. “I figured you’d appreciate the familiar digs. Shame you can’t speak normally, though, and you’ve gotta do the mind talking thing.”

I probably could speak as you do. But remember that these are still memories. Probably best to stick with reality.

“Yeah, because talking to myself through a mirror is totally realistic.”

Point taken.

Corva reaches down and pokes one of the dynamite creatures. She’d started calling them “Dynaflights” in her mind. This one under her finger is a variation with wings like those of a bat. “Any clue about what these are?”

Zeke looks at the one she’s prodding, then the assorted others around them. No idea. This is your dream.

“Damn. I was hoping that this was one of her—Durga’s—memories. I think that I sometimes get those as dreams. This was one of the first I had and the one I’m least sure about. Thought you might know a thing or two about it.”

It still could be a memory of hers. I couldn’t say for sure, though. These explosive little creatures certainly aren’t anything I’ve encountered before.

Corva straightens and rolls her shoulders back. She twists her head to the side a bit, just enough to feel a little pop in her neck. “Alright. Let’s do this thing.”

Very well. Open your eyes.
