《Divine Mortality》Chapter 32

With Eseli now down sleeping on the floor, I can properly pay attention to these two people. When you go around this world, it’s sometimes hard to differentiate between players and NPC characters since there is no clear indication which is which unless you tap on them to see their character information. I’ve seen Krafty and May a few times already but if it wasn’t for them chatting loudly in voice chat in Orana’s kitchen then I would’ve just walked past them.
Anyways…
MC: “How did you get into the shop?”
May: “Same way as you, through the door, duh”
Krafty: “Is Eseli really not dead? Do you need to revive her?”
MC: “No she’s just a deep sleeper.”
May: “How do you wake her up?”
MC: “I don’t know. I haven’t tried too yet”
Krafty: “Well it is nighttime after all, but Orana isn’t sleeping so I forgot NPCs do that”
MC: “Is that how you two got into the shop?”
Krafty: “Yup, Orana opened the door for us”
MC: “Where is she?”
May: “I saw her walk upstairs”
So, she is probably sleeping!
Because Orana and Eseli are NPCs, I guess if you wake them up, they wouldn’t get mad at you. I would wake up Eseli if I needed to, but I’d rather let my companion sleep, maybe it raises their stats back to normal or something. Plus, it’s just a polite thing to do.
MC: “Did you guys wake Orana up before she opened the door?”
May: “Nah, you expect too much out of this game. How would you even do that?”
MC: “I don’t know!”
Krafty: “Orana was awake when she opened the door. Actually, now you mentioned it, she did say that she was waiting for her guests to arrive back”
MC: “That’s cool. It must be me she was referring to since she was awake when we left the shop several several hours ago.”
May: “What were you doing just now?”
MC: “Nothing in particular! Just killing skeletons, you know, those Petty Quests…”
Krafty: “I like Petty Quests but- “
May: “But May hates them! I’m stuck with this clown who doesn’t want to do Journey Quests or even attempt Invasion Missions, and he especially doesn’t know how to follow instructions”
Krafty: “Following YOUR instructions on baking a cake in a video game doesn’t have anything to do with my preference in questing!”
So, they now proceed going back to their civil conversation

MC: “I’ll just go upstairs to a moment…”
Krafty and May: “Yeah go ahead…”
I’ve picked Eseli up and I’m slowly carrying her up the stairs and throwing her onto the bed she was sitting at earlier when I saw her emit light before we left to see the Lord-Mayor. Another door in the upstairs area here is closed, I assume that’s where Orana is sleeping at. Yup, she definitely is, I can hear snoring sound effects.
Oh, I almost forgot. I need Orana to tell me if she knows where the Guard Captain is.
Can I open this door?
Yes, I can!
It looks like Orana hasn’t had a good night sleep since I spawned back in her shop when I logged in and then I left with Eseli. And later Krafty and May came into her shop and are now baking a cake. I guess since she knows they are Divine Spirits then she must trust them… while Krafty and May are alright for some reason this game has gotten me concerned over the NPCs when it comes to other players. I wonder if a Player steals a lot from an NPC, would that really hurt that NPC’s prosperity? I think I want to later warn other NPCs about how Divine Spirits aren’t all that good. Since every Player has their own playstyle, you can’t expect everyone to be all nice and “immersive” with the world.
That being said. I am sorry Orana. But I want to wake you up because I’d rather not walk around the town at night trying to find the Guard Captain.
*Amulet Pond slightly shakes Orana’s shoulder*
Orana: “…”
MC: “Hi Orana”
Orana: “Ah, Amulet Pond, good to see you again.”
MC: “Can you tell me about this town, Susana?”
Orana: “…sure what would you like to *yawn* know?”
MC: “What are places of importance here?”
Orana: “Well there is the city hall, which I believe you have already been to, then there is my bakery, two weapons shops, the merchant’s guild, a freelancer station, 5 different taverns/inns, minor shops near the entrance and center of the town, and the town’s barracks”
MC: “Can you tell me more about the town’s barracks?”
Orana: “There is not much to know. The main barracks is located near the Lord-Mayor’s palace on the backside of town but there are huts along the wall which obviously are in the control of the town guard. The town relies on its own garrison and militia. The commander heads the militia, and the Guard Captain heads the town’s garrison of guards.”

MC: “Who is the Guard Captain?”
Orana: “I don’t know the Guard Captains name exactly; I might have seen him several times. But I do know that he is likely at the either the main gate of the town or the main barracks.”
MC: “That is all I wanted to know, thank you
Wow, that was probably the most standard NPC dialogue session I had this game, and it wasn’t bad. It was still great. It was a standard NPC dialogue session because the AI didn’t mind, or maybe it did slightly, that I woke up them in the middle of the night. And then I proceeded to ask general questions that they gladly answered. However, Orana isn’t going back to sleep right away.
Orana: “Ah, Amulet Pond! I’ve realized that you and Eseli have returned back from your mission. Were you successful?”
MC: “Sort of. Eseli is also asleep right now.”
Orana: “So you two will continue to stay the night?”
How should I answer that? I don’t know what saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’ will mean to her. I don’t plan to literally stay the night in game, since that would be a waste of time and plus it’s currently the afternoon for me the real world. Sorry Orana, wait a moment.
I’m going to message Krafty and May…
Oh wait… WiseMaster667 just sent me a message?
*A moment later*
May: “Why did you send a text message calling us for help when I’m in the middle of finally teaching Krafty how to properly bake a cake?”
Krafty: “Shut up May, we’re overkilling this quest. Anyways, what do you need help with Amulet?”
MC: “Ahaha, well it’s not really help. I just wanted to ask you guys a question but I’m in the middle of a conversation with Orana which I didn’t want to answer incorrectly. To be honest it’s not really a big deal.”
Krafty: “Sure, what is it Amulet?”
MC: “How long are you guys planning to play for? I thought you were just going to play a short while this morning but it’s already the afternoon.”
May: “Well, unlike Krafty I already finish most of the work I need to ahead of time. Because I have a super special ability called discipline.”
Krafty: “Don’t listen to May, she keeps trying to remind me of stuff I’m lacking whenever she’s got a chance”
May: “But Krafty…aren’t you supposed to go do something sometime soon? Or maybe take a nap? This little baby needs to rest a little…they’ve planned long enough today”
MC: “I was uh, I was thinking that we could go on adventure right now if you guys still had the time. Something like a Journey Quest but it’s not real quest.”
Krafty: *takes an audibly deep breath* “So…this is how it’s going to be huh. Amulet! You are my witness right here and right now! Because annoying May won’t remember this…
May: “Ho?”
Krafty: “I’M READY! I’ll spend the whole day with you Amulet if you want! I’m not tired enough to sleep, I don’t care about listening to May’s baking advice, and most importantly… I feel like I want to do a Journey Quest right now! HOW ABOUT IT MAY? How would you like to play for several more hours? Or will you be too tired and sleep?”
May: “Ohhh wow! Krafty I can’t believe you’re actually going to do this! Wooow! I didn’t expect this at all! I wonder if I could even stay awake for that long since I haven’t slept much in the morning…”
Krafty: “Hahaha!!! See May? How does it feel being on the other side of the stick? Now you need to play the game with me or are you too much of a casual to take on a Journey Quest just before sleep/work?”
But it’s not a Journey Quest, Krafty!
*Ding*
May sent me a message…?
“Thank yooouuuuu so much…Krafty is finally going to play other parts of the game instead of cosplaying and doing minigames…WiseMaster667 also sent me the message so please don’t tell anything to Krafty or else he will suddenly lose interest”
Oh, I see. May faked a reaction so that Krafty could remain enthusiastic about the game. She really is like his older sister. And it seems like WiseMaster667 also messaged her, but not Krafty. How Wise of him.
So, I shouldn’t explain to Krafty what we are going to do…
I should finally answer Orana’s question. Sorry for taking so long.
Orana: “Amulet?”
MC: “No we are not going to stay the whole night. We will leave by sunrise.”
Orana: “May I ask where the two are you going to go?”
MC: “To Orchard Hills”
