《Love Death Cemetery》Chap 28: Misunderstanding

Lug was waiting by the front door of the cemetery, thoughtful and agitated.
He was confused and worried about what he had seen this old lady do.
Breaking such thick ice with her wrinkled fist seemed surreal.
He kept looking at her, she was now sitting on the fountain singing an opera aria.
But that wasn't his only concern, Lug was anxious to see Hannah again.
This charming young woman had decided to drive all the way there instead of talking on the phone, but why?
A lot of changes were taking place in the cemetery, first this idea that ghosts can disappear, then that old woman having some abnormal strength and now Hannah that wants to see him again?
"How did I go from a quiet life to such hectic days... Winter is meant to be spent in front of a show eating sweets and wrapped up under a quilt! Instead I feel threatened by an old lady who could be my grandmother... Wait... I told Hannah she was my mother... OOOoooh... I really made the worst first impression possible, I lied 2 or 3 times in 5 minutes..... " Lug was once again questioning his life when he heard a car door close.
He was glued to the metal plates of the gate, he stepped away from it so he wouldn't look like he had been waiting impatiently for his guest.
Hannah opened the gate without knocking, much to Lug's surprise.
She had on the same down jacket as the day before, but instead of jeans she was wearing a gray jogging suit this time.
She was still glowing, and it was with an eager smile that she said :
"Nice to see you again, Lug. So, what did you learn?"
You could see the impatience in her eyes, she was shaking with excitement.

Lug began to doubt his information, was it really worth so much impatience? Was it worth driving almost two hours?
He swallowed his doubts in one go and finally said :
"Linette Parnac used to write messages to herself behind postcards. I don't know if that's useful for your research?"
Lug expected to see a disappointed face, but it was quite the opposite.
Hannah's eyes shone.
"Lug. I feel like you have some funny unclear business going on in that cemetery, that old lady singing opera by that DIY fountain, that swing and all those vegetables... You're an odd duck and I'd like to know more about what you're hiding... But for now and I don't know why… I feel like you're someone I can trust, so I'm going to tell you everything."
Lug didn't know how to take everything he just heard, some of Hannah's speech sounded positive towards him but the odd duck expression bothered him.
As she spoke, he looked at her lost in thought.
"Lug, are you listening to me?"
"MMmmh? Oh, yes, yes, of course."
"So you're willing to help me?"
"Of course," said Lug without any idea of what he was getting into.
Hannah then stopped talking, she turned to the side looking to the west, as if there was an answer there.
Eno was leaning against the wall of Lug's house.
He was watching the little scene unfold while touching his lips, wondering what was going on.
When Lug discreetly signaled him to come closer by moving his gaze several times towards him and then towards Hannah, Eno gave him a sign of encouragement in return.
He had not understood anything.
But suddenly, for some reason he came closer.
"She's very pretty, you have good taste," Eno said.

Of course she could not hear, nor see Eno.
Lug took the opportunity to ask him to repeat what she had said by mimicking the words with his mouth.
Eno focused on reading the words on Lug’s lips.
But "What did she say" got understood as "Why did she stay".
Eno made a strange face and then said :
"Come on, don't play with her like that, if you wanted her to leave you should have told her directly that you don't want to help her find the treasure!"
Luckily Lug learned about the treasure, despite the big communication problems.
Before he could mime his next question, Hannah turned back to Lug.
"I'd like you to come with me to my aunt's house, I think we'll find the postcards there."
Lug replied as if he knew all the ins and outs of the case.
"Why would the postcards be there?"
"The letter I read was part of a correspondence between my great grandmother and her sister. I would think it makes sense that my aunt inherited grandma's things or at least knows where they are."
Lug was slowly picking up the pieces.
He rubbed his eyes as if to appear very focused and said :
"No matter how much I think about it, I don't understand the connection with her grave... Do you honestly think she would have left a clue about her treasure in plain sight?"
It was a daring question, Lug was taking the risk of letting Hannah know that he hadn't been listening to anything if that information had already been given.
"I know what you mean, but I didn't have any leads and I had to start somewhere. I don't think it's that stupid though, considering what she wrote in the letter. So enough talk, are you coming?"
It is at this moment that Lug became aware of what Hannah was asking him.
She wanted him to accompany her to her aunt's house.
She was going to introduce him to a member of her family.
« Does she see me as more than just a friend? » he thought.
He had not understood anything.
