— it felt like the dawn of a budding love, a belly bloated with butterflies,

a rousing dread gently strumming heartstrings,

it felt like a certain hunger but it was magic made tangible

in the interval between pink twilights and sunburnt pastures,

it felt like the mirages of heat were a simple reality finally realized,

suckling the spirits with the sap of halcyon days,

it felt like the shedding of chrysalises, the exposure of essence,

the baring of souls, the rapture of it all.

a sigh gathered and soughed- a cosmic squall.

— i place my objects of anguish and my rarities of aptitude under a source of light;

just like the fruit flies showered by the mellow dusky sunlight, and look

like blown dandelions on their way to grant wishes, i too wish my

shortcomings are bestowed some ornate saving grace.

— i am a woman of temperament mischievous,

with grazed feet that paint red the concrete,

with hands obsolete and maladroit;

does that render me the leper in the eyes of the divine?

what original sin do i carry on our shoulders, mighty as if a birthright?

passed down from my mother, and her mothers before her-

is it the word of God or is it the tale of men?

craving something so deliciously sinful,

something of the hubristic nature that angers Gods and men alike.

for how dare I seek after fulfillment under these hawk-eyed skies who

so sternly counteract every clump of rapture with humbling torment?

(lest we forget we are here to suffer!)

bestowing it upon our souls like a thorned wreath -a macabre paragon!

like a shadow cast by happiness, eager to consume the lingering

crumbs of joy when the light of delirium finally dies out;

so, do I dare lust for a taste of unadulterated bliss whose light casts no shadow

or contentment it is?"
