《Love Death Cemetery》Chap 23: A new place

The next day Lug went to all the ghosts in the southern neighborhoods to ask them what they would like to see growing on their graves.
Most of the ghosts seemed happy about this new possibility, they asked for flowers, rarely for fruits and only a few asked for vegetables.
Eno asked for red cabbage.
The two fallen leaders asked for the biggest trees they knew.
The policeman asked for an oak tree and the baker for a poplar.
The fight had certainly not calmed their ardor.
The ghosts of the gray area all asked for violets as if to give their corridor an identity.
Lug had decided not to plant anything in the rich districts not wanting to denature them, they did not need anything more to be sumptuous.
The last ghost he went to see, late in the afternoon, was Malda.
"Malda, sorry to bother you. Your children have already chosen the plants they want, so that leaves you. What do you want to see growing on your grave?" Lug asked.
Malda was sitting on the swing, one hand holding the chain and her other hand resting on her leg. She was swinging slightly.
"Tulips, do you think that would be possible?" she said with a smile.
Even if she had asked for the rarest or most poisonous plant, even if Lug had to plant nettles with his bare hands, he would have agreed upon seeing that smile.
"Obviously, I'll find some nice tulips to plant!" He said with vigor.
Lug ordered all the plants he needed from the store truck that came by every week.
As soon as he received the first seeds he got to work.
He began by taking care of Valmont.
While he was working he saw the old lady from the day before swinging on the swing.

He had never seen a ghost manage to swing so high.
Usually they managed to make the swing move slightly, but nothing more.
Here it looked like she could fly away at any moment.
Lug decided to go and see her directly.
When she saw him approaching the old lady stopped.
"Hello ma'am, I've never seen you here before, what neighborhood are you from?" asked Lug kindly, taking off his gardening gloves.
The old lady had short hair, she was small, wearing a loose flowered dress. All in purple with her white hair she looked like the meeting between an eggplant and an oyster mushroom.
"Neighborhood? No no, I'm not from here. I'm just visiting the cemetery to see if I want to be buried here or not." replied the old lady calmly.
Lug was stunned.
"Visiting? Like to try? You are alive...?" Lug swallowed as he realized he was facing a visitor.
She had seen that he wasn't doing what a cemetery janitor should do at all.
Building a swing and planting vegetables and flowers all morning.
She resumed:
"You, my boy, have funny manners... But I must say there is something pleasant about this cemetery, I might come back."
She stood up, patted Lug's shoulder, raising her arm high as she was short in stature, and walked slowly towards the gate.
Lug watched her leave, he was tense but also reassured, she didn't seem to be the type to go and denounce to the town hall the works he had undertaken in the cemetery.
He sat on the swing for a few minutes before returning to plant his seeds.
It took him more than a week to plant everything.
Lug then started preparing greenhouses for the exotic plants that some of the ghosts had requested.

The cemetery looked more and more like a botanical garden, the only thing missing was a fountain for the transformation to be complete.
And Eno thought that installing a fountain in the middle of the cemetery would make it easier to irrigate the plants and would give a big boost to the aesthetics of the place.
Eno had become strangely persuasive, the cemetery had become more refined did those changes have an impact on the ghosts?
Lug asked himself many questions, but got back to work and ordered the parts needed to build a fountain.
He had ordered a book on how to make simple fountains.
His idea was as follows: follow the instructions to build a small simple fountain, but like a cake, triple or quadruple the ingredients to make a huge fountain.
In the end it took him a month to make the fountain, but he couldn't connect it to the water right away.
He ended up connecting a tap at home to the fountain with a pipe that he buried.
He set up a system that allowed the water to be reused so as not to spend too much.
Lug discovered a talent for DIY and plumbing.
He was helped by many ghosts whose knowledge remained as vivid as their minds.
During all this time and all this work, Lug saw the old lady continue to come regularly, to walk near the flowers, to play on the swings, to refresh her face with the water of the fountain.
She was now part of the scenery.
Lug limited his contact with her by just saying hello and goodbye, and that was good enough for both of them.
In a few months Lug had completely transformed a decrepit cemetery into a lush garden.
He hardly bought anything from the walking truck since he had vegetables all year round.
The ghosts were happy to see beautiful plants growing near their graves and the honor was only greater when Lug came to pick vegetables to eat.
They had found meaning in their death.
