《Aliens.exe》Chapter 76 - Won't Get Caught Short

“Everyone to landing positions, please!” was the announcement over the tannoy. “We will be landing in Imdor in approximately ten minutes!”
“Hurry up!” cried Gaz, banging on the cubicle door in front of him. He’d been waiting for the loo for ages, and really didn’t want an accident on his first official army assignment. He and Joel already suffered enough stick due to their forced conscription, any extra reasons would make his life a living hell.
A good five minutes later, the door opened.
“I’m sorry it took me so long,” spat the occupant, pushing Gaz backwards. “You wanna be careful, the Guv’nor doesn’t take well to lateness.”
Gaz looked up at the large bearded frame standing over him. It was Igor, a spiteful and aggressive man who had given Gaz grief ever since they joined. Gaz was pretty sure he had stayed in the toilet longer when he had recognised Gaz’s voice.
Gaz got up and scuttled around him. I’ve got time, he thought, it’ll only take two minutes.
Sure enough, Gaz finished up quickly and pressed the button to get out.
Whirr…
“Come on!” he cried.
Whirr… Nothing happened.
Typical, he thought. Un-flummoxed, Gaz took the knife off his belt and peeled the panel off the wall next to the door. He shook his head. It was a mess of stretched and cut wires, with a hole in the middle where the fuse should be.
Bloody Igor, he muttered, knowing that he’d been purposely locked in. Not to be beaten by his vandalism, Gaz selected a couple of wires and pressed them together. He got a small shock, but they shorted the system and the door shot open. Gaz was finally glad that he had paid some attention to the lessons he’d had since he’d been in the army.

Sprinting along the corridor, Gaz could see the muster point ahead of him. I’m gonna make it!
As he entered the room, there was a violent shake as the ship made contact with the ground. Gaz flew up into the air, and landed, sliding along the floor on his face, at Igor’s feet.
“He’s late, Guv’nor,” said Igor.
Gaz turned just in time to see his Captain’s red face, ready to explode, before a swift kick to the back of his head rendered him unconscious.
“Joel!” snarled the Guv’nor. “He’s your pathetic excuse for a brother, you look after him. Off the ship!”
Joel slung his unconscious brother over his shoulder and carried him out into the misty, cold air of Imdor. Slapping Gaz in the face whilst marching, he cursed.
“Shit, Gaz. Wake up! You’re gonna get us both killed.”
Whether that was by the Ildor, Igor or the Guv’nor, Joel didn’t know.

Bitter
The story of a girl who finds her life is not what she wanted. So she gets another one. Schedule: Story has been completed. Book One is available free on Amazon and EPUB. Books Two to Five are out now. Final Book out soon. Chapters will be around 500-1000 words. This will not change so if you don't like reading very short chapters wait till the end of the week or even end of the month. This many chapters a week isn't easy to pull off so please bear that in mind. This is a VRMMORPG story, but the ones I've read tend to use VR as an excuse to get into a fantasy world and then don't really play up the game aspect other than pulling up a status screen every now and then. To me, MMOs are about more than the fantasy setting. Bugs, exploits, devs who don't understand their own game, OP classes, over the top nerfs, p2w, ridiculous RNG, cash shop fiasco, lockboxes, raging players, broken mechanics, limited bag space, tedious crafting and above all that, a company trying to squeeze money out if its playerbase while pretending they're just in the business of having fun. Of course, then there's the orcs and elves. This story is about finding yourself in a completely immersive fantasy game, but it's also about what a game like that would really be like.

A New Beginning
Humans don't understand how someone can be both dead and alive, and that fact scares them, it opens up the possibility of a threat even if there is no evidence of malevolent intent. So, the only solution in the minds of humanity is to dominate and subjugate the unknown variable until it no longer has even the potential to be a threat. They choose to pretend that the unknown variable is lesser, that humanity is superior on no other grounds than that it's humanity. Danny had been stuck with the G.I.W for years when the Young Justice team rescued him. Broken, beaten, and none the wiser of the greater majority of humans, the humans with kindness in their eyes and light in their souls. He's been trapped in the darkness of greed and fear and violence for far too long, and what's left behind is a fractured mind and a trained weapon. Buried underneath that, however, is a young child who is scared and confused, a child that hasn't seen the light of day in years. That child never expected to see the bright side to existence, to see the light shine in the souls of the righteous. That all changed with one group of heroes, and one family of Bats.Cover doesn't belong to me.Cross-published on two other sites*Undergoing heavy editing, nothing plot-wise is changing, I am only editing grammar, mechanics, vocabulary, sentence variation, and formatting and overall I am just making it a more pleasant and refined read :) I am also deleting the A/Ns at the beginning and end of each chapter
