《Stardust Universe》Chapter 2.14 - White - The Yokai Warlord

As the dark cloudy smoke continues to engulf the entire arena, Lin asked me to cover my mouth and nose as the smoke has suddenly become a sleeping gas just after The Chaotic Champion, Kitsuneki has left the arena. I decided that it was best if we chase him down before he will be able to do anything about the stolen Mikazuki Blade.
"What about the others, White?" Lin asked
I responded and said, "Get them out of the arena. Including, Ethereal. I'm chasing that warlord."
Lin nodded and shifted away from my vision as I made my way through the smoke looking for the exit. As I finally got out of the arena, I saw a bunch of monsters was on their way to head back somewhere. Since I was caught in the moment, I immediately went toward them and attacked them with all my might without thinking. Before I realize it, there was a bunch of these creepy looking monsters that was surrounding me.
"What the heck are these things?"
Then suddenly, one of the monsters head was blown off from a distant gunshot. I looked behind me and saw Ethereal was using a different rifle than what I was carrying.
"Can't you drop that disguise already?" Ethereal commented on my disguise.
"Ethereal..." As I said that I brought out the card that Lin used on me and rip it in half, cancelling the effect of my disguise.
I finally turned back to my original self but I have no time to rest as Ethereal immediately told me, "Those things are Yokai. They are mostly...ghosts of the past being resurrected into a monster-like creature."
"So they are like Shiro in some way?"
"Who is Shiro?"
I shake my head and say, "Just a friend of mine. I wonder if he is having fun with his group..."
"Well you don't have time to think about the other group when your own group is in a weird mess with the Yokai." Ethereal said that as she grabbed her rifle from my back. She then kept one of her rifle back into her Dimensional Bag.
"Here, White. This might help us..." Ethereal handed me a piece of rolled paper.
"Is this a Scroll?"
She nodded, "Yes. And it's not just any Scroll. It's a Wind Elemental Scroll. I bet you can learn something from that scroll."
"Let's see about that then..."
Apart from just being a piece of paper, it is actually a magic scroll. Inside this very scroll lies an adamant spell that could be unleashed for a single use only. A powerful spell, kept inside a small scroll isn't something you see every day in the market because this thing cost a fortune just for a single scroll. You'd be lucky to have it for free but the fact that it only has a single use degrades its usefulness in combat when comparing it with other less expensive items. Its only pros were that it is devastatingly powerful.

I opened the scroll and the writings on the scroll started to glow in green, which means that it is indeed a Wind Elemental Scroll. But knowing that isn't enough to just use the scroll. I have to read carefully to make sure what kind of spell I was about to unleash. After reading through the writings, I found out that it will unleash three small tornados that spin around me. The tornados last for as long as I'm able to hold on to my Infinitum Energy as well as my affinity. Lucky for me, I'm a pure wind wizard and I may probably able to make the tornado last longer than anyone else.
"Ethereal, stay close to me. A barrage of cyclone is coming."
"Is it your brother?" Ethereal jokingly said that to me.
"No! What are you talking about? I'm talking about the scroll, darn it."
She laughed, "I'm just kidding, White. It's just that it's a rare opportunity to make a joke out of your name."
"Can you not do this now?"
I activated the Scroll by reading the bottom half of the writings loudly. It was ancient language so for anyone hearing it, it will sound like gibberish. I only know a few of these ancient words but it isn't that hard to pronounce them if the words are right in front of me. As the scroll was finally activated, the scroll burns itself as the clouds above me started to spin into three different spirals. In just a few moments later, three tornados struck down from the clouds and into the ground, spinning around me and Ethereal. The tornados were devastating enough that even nearby trees were caught up in it. Some of the Yokais were already inside the tornados being spun around continuously until the time is right for them to fly away at great speed.
"We need to move." I said to Ethereal as she nodded back at me.
We made our way through the waves of Yokai that was blocking our path until we finally saw Kitsuneki was riding on his carriage. We quickly gave chase to him and destroyed his carriage with the help of the triple tornados. As the carriage was finally destroyed, Kitsuneki finally makes his first encounter with me.
"I really didn't expect to have our first meeting like this...White." Kitsuneki spokes.
"How do you know my name?"
"Haven't you forgotten already? Your so called 'friend', Yumiko told you about me. Of course I would know about you, White."

"Yumiko...What's your relation with her?"
"Didn't she tell you?" Kitsuneki sighed, "I bet not..."
"What's going on, White. You know that guy?" Ethereal was confused.
I replied to her, "I only know him by name. Not personally. Yet..."
"Then allow me to tell you who Yumiko is..." Kitsuneki begins charging a tremendous amount of chaotic energy in his right hand and said, "Yumiko is my spy...she has been watching over you ever since the beginning of your semester. You think we don't know of your existence especially after the defeat of Escher?"
"But...that's..."
"Even if you rewrote history and altered the timeline. What you did was only temporal as the memory of the past slowly starts to come back. That is why your friends remember some key points to that event..."
During the midst of chaos, I realized something, "Then...Mei is still alive?"
Kitsuneki laughed a little and said, "You mean Escher's artificial child? She's still alive and well. It's just that her memory was a bit fuzzy but in time...she will remember...but before that happen, we will brainwash her and force her to fight against you. She would easily believe that you killed her father. Making our job easier and that...we thank you, Cyclone White."
My patience suddenly broke as I voluntarily ran to Kitsuneki along with the triple tornados. Ethereal couldn't do much but follow me in order to avoid getting caught in the tornado. Kitsuneki immediately stopped my advance as he hurled the chaotic energy that he has been charging up toward me. Ethereal quickly pushed me away to safety just in the nick of time.
"Are you alright, White. What were you thinking?"
"I don't know...He...angered me..."
Ethereal then said, "I don't think that's good for your health. You shouldn't be intimidated in the face of evil."
"Evil? We are not evil!" Kitsuneki proudly said, "The Nihonese are what we call evil! Those people stole our land and drove off my ancestors away deep into the forest and nearby islands. And just after we finally established a friendly relationship with each other, The Emperor has the guts to allow outsiders to enter our forsaken land! To make matters worse, The Emperor even allowed an outsider to be invited in traditional Koi Dragon Invitational that has been passed for generations by the Yokai."
"That can't be..." Ethereal was feeling worried.
"It is the truth! They drove away the Yokai, the original inhabitants of Nihon. These tyrants will do anything just to obtain the beauty of our land and what they did to it disgust me! Who is the evil one here?!" Kitsuneki makes a valid argument.
"Is that the reason you start this rebellion? Revenge for your ancestors?"
"I know that the numbers of Yokai has been dwindling for the past few decades thanks to the tyrants of this land...I won't be able to overthrow the Emperor with such small numbers. I require more power and that is where I found my teacher, The Eternal Chaos, Nova!"
Nova, that's the name that have been eluding me ever since I got myself into this mess. The Eternal Chaos, Nova...that's one heck of a title. Today I finally learn of the name of the one who truly responsible for all of this chaos that has been brought to this universe...But from the looks of it, this might just only be the beginning of what's to come for me and the rest of my crew, Stardust, who started all of this. It wasn't my only decision to stop Escher back then. It was the entirety of my crew who says that we should defeat The Chaos Battlemage. As things was about to get uglier, Kitsuneki decides to retire for today and leave us be.
Ethereal was only able to carry me to as far as she could but she finally dropped after founding out that it was futile to keep chasing Kitsuneki. Here we are lying down right in front of what seems to be hope...it was a shrine but not just any shrine. It was a burned down shrine that contains a hopeful story...It was The Shrine of The Mikazuki.

Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent
