《Re: Apocalypse Games (GAMELit)》051 - Rewards

After successfully getting into the top 10, Alan and Nims returned to the registration and requested the promised reward.
Knowing he was in the top rank, the military staff was instructed to find a superior to handle the situation. It was a treatment for new rookie players with high talents.
As expected, the one who approached him was the one who had been observing him for a while.
An African American man in military uniform with a steady and confident gait. His face was calm and composed without any malice, but one glance at his eyes was enough to kick-start primal fear within a person's heart.
The man was none other than Sergeant Dylan O Connor. Alan's best mate before his regression.
"I will be helping you get your rewards"
The Sergeant did look intimidating at first glance. Unfortunately, the other party's attempt was simply ineffective as Alan knew better what kind of person he was underneath the Sergeant's mask.
Entirely unfazed, Alan answered the intimidating stare with a relaxed smile.
Even though he was a bit surprised by Alan's unusual reaction toward him, the Sergeant didn't mind it much as he proceeded to lead them into a room next door. It was an armory full of weapons.
"You can choose from any available weapon here."
In all honesty, the weapons that the Government offered as rewards were all second-hand items. On top of that, all of them were just of common grade. Even so, no one dared to belittle these items.
The reason was not just because common weapons were still rare to be found or cost a lot of survival points to buy, but also due to the well-known fact that all these weapons had been used by deceased players from the last round.
In other words, the three of them were currently standing in a weapon graveyard, with each weapon having an untold story to tell.

"You two can choose one melee item each, and you," Dylan pointed his finger at Alan saying, "You can choose one firearm as well."
As he heard that, Alan gave his thanks with an upturned face and quickly made his way into the armory.
First and most naturally, he looked for a melee weapon that could help him in the upcoming round of Apocalypse Game. With his forte in his previous life being in swords, Alan had no other better choice and quickly walked over to the said section.
Arriving at the place, he found 8 different swords hung horizontally on a black metallic wall. To ensure his choice, Alan tried each size and weight, giving them a few swings, before finally deciding on one. A slightly short 70 centimeter double edge longsword called Arming sword, a sword normally used by knights in the 15th century.
[Name: Arming Sword]
[Type: Weapon (Sword)]
[Rarity: Common]
[Attributes: Damage 22-28]
[Effects: None]
[Equipment Rating:18]
[Able To Bring Outside The Game: No]
[Remarks: A simple knightly sword]
Of course, Nims also got his weapon of choice.
The Monk was looking for a metal pole; however, as it wasn't exactly a popular choice of weapon, there were only three options. All of them were made of pure metal. And, unsurprisingly, Nims decided on the biggest and heaviest one among them.
[Name: Metal Polearm]
[Type: Weapon Blunt]
[Rarity: Common]
[Attributes: Damage 18-32]
[Effects: None]
[Equipment Rating:17]
[Able To Bring Outside The Game: No]
[Remarks: A big stick that can smack someone into the ground]
These were the benefits of getting to choose a weapon first; Alan managed to select the one most suitable for him before the armory got ransacked by veterans who topped the list on every leaderboard.
"Now choose your firearm." This time, the Sergeant evidently showed a keen interest in Alan's choice of firearm, whether it was a handgun, rifle, or sniper rifle.

Alan himself was previously planning to get one of his favorite AK 47, but as he strolled across the corner of the room, he decided on another path. He chose one of the most unexpected weapons.
[Name: Sawed-off Shotgun]
[Type: Weapon (small firearm)]
[Rarity: Common]
[Attributes: Firepower 58-74 (10 meters), 48 - 62 (up to 30 meters)]
[Magazine: 2 rounds (12 Gauge)]
[Fire Rate: up to 1 round/second]
[Equipment Rating: 20]
[Remarks: Great to blow up head like watermelon]
The reasons; One, it had one of the highest damage coefficients among all the weapons within its category.
Two, it could be held with one hand, allowing Alan to be free to use a sword or any other weapon of his choice on his other hand.
As for the final and bit complex reason... he just kept it back of his mind until he successfully got it.
The Sergeant chuckled when he saw Alan chose the shotgun "Interesting choice"
Alan was given a box filled with twenty 12 gauge shells, and afterward, all exited the armory and as soon after the Sergeant asked
"You are an interesting fellow... Now that you got your reward, I am here to invite you to join our rank in the US military. What do you say?"
Before Alan could answer, a few men approached them.
These people came marching in black uniforms, didn't even bother glancing at Sergeant, and looked around with a searching gaze until it fell onto the Indian Monk.
"I wasn't sure before, but after seeing the ranking... I knew it... You are Nims aren't you?"
The one who arrived was the leader of the New York branch Black Sand Mercenary, a Hispanic man with a scar on his face, Cachello Trejo.
Most members of the Black Sand mercenaries know about the Kal Umbra monastery, hence some have heard or seen Nims before.
The peaceful face of the Sergeant formed a scowl as his eyes pierced the leader of Black Sand. Alan shook his head as he was reminded how his best pal, Dylan O'connor hated those of Black Sand Mercenary to the bone.
"You are a member of the Black Sand?" asked the sergeant as he glared at Alan.
