《Traveler's Unceasing Footsteps》Chapter 1: My First City

I walked and walked following the path towards the unknown, heading for a place where I am stranger to all. I camped when night came wary against the beasts roaming in the dark and walked in the road when the sun shows itself until finally arriving at a city that much bigger than my hometown after days of walking.
'It has a big wall, a big gates and hundreds of people lining to it with their carriage on tow. Its a prosperous city that I luckily stumbled on just by following the road and not even knowing its name is.'
Thinking that, I walk towards the line where the people who are on foot are lining because the entrance are separated from people who have carriages with them.
As I lined up I notice the tall bald man in front of me who carries a giant sword in his back and holding a bag that stinks with blood in his hands, curious about the man I called him.
“Um, may I ask something.”
“What?”
The man looked back at me.
“Are you a mercenary?”
“Yes. Are you new here?”
He asked making me nod gesturing him that I am.
“I came from another town and this is my first time coming in a city.”
“I see, well welcome to 'Athros'”
The bald man said with a smile.
'So this is Athros City'
I thought as I replied to him with a smile.
“Thank you.”
After that the man's turn came and he shown a badge to the guard entering the gate.
'Oh, that's right I don't know the way to the guild.'
Noticing the problem I paid the entrance tax of two silver coins that the guard said and followed the bald man immediately.

“Hey uncle are you going to the mercenary guild?!”
Hearing my shout the people near the entrance of the gate looked at me, seeing them looking at me made me feel embarrassed but after a few seconds the crowds' gazes that focus on me disappeared and the only one remained is the bald uncle who stopped and is looking at me.
“I am, are you interested in becoming mercenary?”
The bald uncle asked not in slightest angry at me for calling him an uncle.
“Yes, I need money for the journey and the easiest way is to become a mercenary.”
I replied while following bald uncle who started walking towards the crowded road full of stalls and people who buy things from it.
“Well I don't want to dissuade you but this job is dangerous.”
Uncle said as he glance at me who look like someone with no experience in fighting.
“I know and I’m not going to do dangerous job that may cost me my life I just need money for a long journey.”
“Good, being mercenary is not an easy job, but there different kinds of mercenary and being an adventurer might be suited for you if you plan on travelling.”
“Adventurer?”
Seeing my curiosity about the word Uncle laughed vanishing the scary aura that he is showing.
“Mercenaries main job is to be hired when there is war, fighting for the one who has the highest pay but this kingdom rarely goes to war that is why mercenary like us who have no other jobs to do choose to kill monsters and sell there body parts for money or if a town or a village is attack by a monster hoard the city lord or citizens would commission the mercenary guild to solve it, thus this become the main source of income of the mercenaries in this kingdom who have great strength instead of wars, but there are also people who request gathering special materials or items, this became the specialty of those who have great searching skills and other specialize techniques for finding something and they are called gatherer, while those mercenary that dives into the dungeon are called explorer, and adventurer is a mercenary that explore an unexplored land, but the guild and others don't know how to specify them because mercenaries will do any job as long that they can profit from it so its only us mercenaries and people in this trade knows those terms while the general masses only knows us a mercenary.”

'Exploring the unexplored, Adventurer...'
Imagining what adventurers do made my heart skip a beat thinking how awesome they are. While I'm imagining about adventurers, Uncle's explanation about mercenaries continued until we arrived at our destination.
“Oh we're here.”
Waking me up from my daydream Uncle said as he stopped and points towards the building that is three storeys high with an insignia of sword and axe crossed together behind a shield.
“That is the Mercenary Guild.”
