《Axis:Legacy》Chapter 26 - Suicide Mission

“And what of the Ambassador?” Sun asked as he discussed with Hathaway and the Leaders and Deputies of Justice and Freedom.
“Dead,” Charl said as Sun looked over his tablet which shows the pictures of Freedom Two, Three, and Six were immediately crossed out and was declared Killed In Action and was followed by the pictures of Justice Two, Three and Six all of which are declared Killed In Action as well.
In contrast to the casualties of Freedom, Justice Lost its members as a result from being trapped in the Sewers only for them to be exposed earlier on by the same Chemical Gas that would be released in Thermus. The only difference is that the surviving members, namely Princess Charl Jorouse Noctria, Haruka Fuyumori and Erika Sakamoto who arrived late after having to hold back a large group of Coalition members while the other half of Team Justice which consisted of Calliope Petrikov, Lucas Mcgee and Gilles Curie attempted to run ahead in hopes of securing the Containers faster only to fall into a trap leading them to suffer a slow and agonizing death.
“Any word of the Evacuation?” Hathaway inquired with a hand on his face trying his best to not look at the now increasing list of casualties and deaths from the aftermath of the Chemical Attack.
“The Chemical Attack had occurred within the Third District of the City and had spread across the City. Specifically the first five districts and continued to spread across the City and as we speak we’ve lost half the number of Districts within the City.” Arthur spoke as they were shown a map that marks all of the Districts of the City while each one slowly turns green as a result of the Gas Spreading.
“As such, we were able to evacuate the other five districts, but we are doing our best to search for survivors that can still be rescued within the City.” Justice-1 continued as they showed several dots that appeared on the map indicating locations where they were able to rescue survivors.
“The Search and Rescue can be handled by the Military Police and the other Fourth and Fifth Teams while the Evacuation of the City can be handled by the First and Second Years,” Hathway spoke as he looked at the Screen earning a stare from Sun. “You have more important tasks at hand. Namely the recovery of the Shards of the Crimson Edge and Azure Blade of Andras Desper and Arios Elpis.”

“Why is that?” Haruka asked, as far as anyone knows the two Swords are powerful weapons even if they have been shattered into pieces and each shard itself could potentially hold be a powerful item on its own. But another thing to note is that these words have a mind of its own and had driven the minds of those who attempted to wield it insane.
And yes, one may argue that these items are highly valuable and thus should be sought after for Historical and Political Reasons but they can easily be recovered.
“That’s because should these shards can also be used as a weapon,” Hathaway spoke in a low voice. "If they were to find a way to harness the energy from the Nephilite Shards then it will mean doom for us all."
The entire call went silent, neither Sun, Hathaway or the members of Justice and Freedom spoke. After all, the mission itself was a suicidal one at best as they are required to venture deep into a highly gassed location and recover to volatile fragments of a weapon used years ago and should they fail then it was the same as essentially handing the Coalition a much stronger bomb.
"Permission to make this a Solo Mission?" Natsuki Spoke, this took everyone by surprise.
"Natsuki, I forbid you to--” Arthur said but as he was immediately cut off by Haruka.
"Permission to accompany Freedom-4 on this Suicide Mission?" Haruka interrupted.
"Haruka no, you are--"
"I'm sorry your highness but you and Prince Arthur are too high profile to be partaking this suicide mission and the other surviving member of our teams is still recovering," Haruka spoke, it was true though. The shock of losing half their team and the realization that they were responsible for the deaths of hundreds if not thousands of civilians within Thermus had taken a heavy toll on their third teammate leaving the only possible candidate for this suicide mission was perhaps Natsuki and Haruka.
"As Prince of Exavis, I forbid both of you to undergo this mission?" Arthur said in disbelief. The two young men have been both a reliable right hand to the Princes and a close confidant at the same time despite having different backgrounds.

"But you're not the Prince of Axis." Natsuki grimly taking the two by surprise. "This is perhaps the only way."
"No there has to be--"
"They're right." Hathaway said sending both the files and location to Haruka and Natsuki. "You two are too high profile and too valuable should this mission fails. Good luck boys."
"Can you promise us one thing?" Charl said her voice was soft almost on the verge of tears in fear of losing their two close friends. "Promise to not die."
The two young men went silent and couldn't answer it.

“We’ll probably miss the next Terra Warzone sessions in the future huh,” Natsuki commented as they looked at the map heading towards the Museum as they drove through a thick pale green mist.
“They’ll be relieved given we accidentally made our characters overpowered,” Haruka replied earning an amused laugh from Natsuki.
“To be fair every time we end up joining a Terra Warzone we keep suffering through a hellish streak of Natural 20s in-game,” Natsuki commented as Haruka stopped near the Museum as soon as they got out of the Jeep it was clear that the entire place was devoid of any life as the two young men steadied their grip on their swords as they cautiously entered the building with both of them preparing various explosive charges, each one designed to level a building on its own, being strategically set throughout the Museum. Specifically, in a way that should the operation be compromised, they would set off the charges burying the shards underground so that it would take them weeks or even months until they can reach the location of the Shards.
“All set,” Haruka said through the radio as he planted the last remaining bombs within the Museum.
“Great I’ve already secured the Shards and–”
The Call was cut off followed by the sounds of gunshots and glass shattering. Without hesitation, Haruka immediately sprinted towards the location where Natsuki was which was the Axis War section where the shards were hidden away.
Upon arrival, he pulled Icetalon II out and found that the entire Museum Section was in flames thanks to Natsuki’s Flameclaw II and at the centre stood Natsuki holding a Cylindrical container where the Shards are to be placed on one hand while Flameclaw II was glowing brightly while surrounded by a large group of Coalition Soldiers.
Pocketing the Charge on his Pocket he gripped Icetalon II with both hands and charged forward wrapping himself in Ki and releasing a blast of cold air and ice extinguishing the flames from further spreading across the Museum.
“You moron what if the fire would cause some effect into the Gas!” Haruka yelled at him as he effortlessly decapitated another Coalition soldier as she tried to ambush Haruka.
“Sorry about that,” Natsuki said with a sheepish smile underneath his gas mask as he impaled another soldier. The two of them stood behind one another as more Coalition soldiers arrived within hall with both of them hugging tightly on the container of the shards.
“Should we detonate it?”
“Not yet.”
Natsuki looked at the Container in his hands and looked at the Coalition soldiers with a hard glare.
“You want this here!” He shouted as he threw the Container in the air as the Coalition troops began to scramble to grab it, but in their distraction they were quickly cut down by the two with mild difficulty.
“Never send sheep to hunt down wolves,” Natsuki said confidently as he caught the Container in mid-air. “You damn moron, if you break that then that’s on you.” Haruka shook his head in disbelief as he walked past him earning an amused chuckle from Natsuki.
“You know that’s one of the things you like about me.” Natsuki teased earning an amused eyeroll from Haruka.
“Focus on the mission then we’ll talk about that.” Haruka said with a chuckle.
