《Axis:Legacy》Side Chapter 1: Altasia’s Pet Project

Professor Altasia Skye held back a laugh from the Novel she was reading as she was having Tea with Professor Hathaway Mills. This had always been their way of getting to know each other even back when Altasia was still a student during her time in Axis, nowadays most of the students spend time with their professors through watching Dramas on TV in the Common Room but both Altasia and Hathaway prefer more quiet places to enjoy their time.
“Sounds like someone is enjoying their book a little too much,” Hathaway looked at her with an amused smile as he finished reading Lady Immaculate and Lord Scholar and place it on the table. “I honestly feel like a fool for trying to read a poorly written Romance Novel.”
“I’ll have you know it’s a Masterpiece,” Altasia said narrowing her eyes on the older Professor. “As for your question, yes I am enjoying the book you lent me as apparently mentions of a love potion—” Hathaway scoffs. “—exactly, apparently with some bullshit ingredients.”
“Please I doubt you can simulate a person’s attraction with something like that.” Hathaway smiled, causing Altasia to look away shyly.
“Indeed.” Altasia thought as she reread the part on the Love Potion, despite being a Combat Professor she was very much an Alchemist at Heart. Something that she and Hathaway share a similar interest in. She placed her book on the table and nodded at him.
“I’ll see you later.” She said while thinking about the possibilities in her head “You better not be doing what I think you’re about to do.” Hathaway raised an eyebrow at her. “You know me too well.” She smiled at him as she left.
“You’re my former student,” Hathaway rolled his eyes as he finished his tea. “Of course, I would.”
Inside the Alchemy Lab, Altasia took her time if sorting out the right ingredients that she needed to be able to simulate a potion that should be able to increase a person’s Pheromone attraction towards a certain person. Which itself is nothing short of a Love Potion. Her reasoning for simply making this you may ask? Why she simply wanted to see if it was possible, if not then what harm can this bring?
Nine hours, Five accidental fires, and Three chemical attack scare later. Altasia had managed to replicate a potion, however, instead of increasing the attraction of whoever took it with the sender, it would instead trigger a scent that reminds someone that they are attracted to, meaning each subject would have their own scent. She found about this as the scent itself reminded her of the smell of Chamomile Tea, Pastries, and old books.

“Now then,” She pulled out a clipboard, remembering that all the first-year students are coming here to pass their respective homework. She can use this as an opportunity to ‘test’ the mixture on the students and what they can smell and list down the observations.
[Axis:Legacy]
“Professor Skye?” Thomas accompanied by Ren, Ester, and Oscar from his Class arrived carrying their copies of their homework entered the Lab, and found her occupied in writing down notes.
“Hmm? Oh Hello.” Professor Skye smiled at them as she finished writing something on her notepad. “Can I help you?”
“We’re here to pass our homework,” Thomas said as he handed her the said homework with Ren, Ester, and Oscar lining up behind him, meanwhile he caught the scent of something being made next to her.
Smells nice. Thomas noted as they caught a scent of what she is brewing on a nearby pot. “What are you working on Professor?”
“It’s a little pet project.” Altasia smiled at him. “Why’d you ask?”
“I just think it smells nice,” Thomas said with a shrug. “Like women’s shampoo or something.”
“You use Women’s shampoo?” Ester asked behind them.
“They smell nice what can I say?” Thomas shrugged; it was a lie. He only knew about it from the scent because of Lissa’s hair,
“I bet you it’s some sort of Recreation Drug.” Oscar chuckled in a low voice only to be elbowed by Ren with a look causing Oscar to suppress a chuckle. Truth be told each one of them has their own scent as they caught a smell from the potion that Altasia is working on.
For Thomas, it was the scent of sweat, eucalyptus air freshener from the Training Room and Lissa’s hair from her shampoo, while he did find the scent very nice it did however ruined his good mood slightly as it only reminded him of the mistake of being led on by Lissa but he set it aside as he can sulk about it later on.
For Ren, it was the scent of Jasmine Tea which he drinks each time Jun invites him over for Tea as well as the blueberry tarts that they eat alongside it, the scent of it reminded him of Oscar and Thomas’ insistence that he needs to set aside his insecurities, but still he can’t help it after all.
For Ester, it was the scent of gun cleaner solvent and gunpowder that she smells when she would ask Louis each time she would ask help in Gun maintenance and training. The thought of it made her smile as it was because of him she had started to improve in handling her skill in firearms, especially since she was the only person that can make even Lissa nervous from the moment she holds a pistol.

And for Oscar, it was the pine-scented air freshener from the Library where he would help Nina in their studies. It completely threw him off guard as he did not expect the scent would evoke Nina of all people into his mind, but he decided not to delve into it since he found it unnecessary.
“For your information, it’s a relaxant,” Altasia explained with a smile. “They’re designed to put the person at ease by causing them to smell something from a good memory.”
Seriously? All four of them thought at the same time with Thomas nearly scoffing and admitted that the memory of being close with Lissa in contrast to the mess that is their relationship, or lack thereof for Thomas, that is today. Ren and Ester both internally admitted that yes the memory of having Tea with Jun or simply a quiet afternoon of cleaning and fixing guns with Louis did put them at ease. Meanwhile, Oscar was dead confused at how the hell was teaching Nina about human biology was considered a good memory.
But none of them decided to ask about it further and left the room before each one of them explaining what they smelled albeit dropping out the less specific parts of the scent.
Sometime later and a few other groups of students, with some interesting reactions that earned Altasia’s amusement, later Lissa and her group that Consisted of Jun, Louis, and Nina. Arrived into the Alchemy Lab with the same intention as the previous group as well, which was to pass their own set of Homework.
“Hello, Professor.” Lissa smiled as she entered the room, she noticed a faint ring that was tied around her neck with a silver string. It was essentially public knowledge now within their year that Lissa was engaged, Altasia wasn’t surprised after all it was common for some students within Axis to be engaged since many of them are children of Nobility. Altasia and Lissa talked for a moment asked about the homework as her group lined up and each one of them got a smell of the potion that she was brewing.
For Lissa, it was the scent of sweat, the eucalyptus air freshener from the Training Room, and Thomas’ cologne. She fought back a smile as she remembered those days where the two would train endlessly until they would disarm one another and resort to fistfights until one of them pins the other on the ground, but she immediately frowned as she remembered that because of her indecisiveness that their relationship had gone to hell and she hopes that she can find a way to fix it.
For Jun it was the scent of smoke, burning rubber and sweat reminded her of the days where she would go and watch Ren as he would work on the forge. She didn’t mind watching him work as being with him made her feel more grounded and gets her mind away from the reality that she is the daughter of the Commander of the Military Police.
For Louis it was the smell of wet grass, rain, and damp paper, he quietly chuckled as the scent reminded him of the first time he met Ester which was a quiet morning and he was in the middle of sketching the open field until it suddenly rained forcing to pull out his umbrella and spotted her running past him without an umbrella causing him to offer to share his umbrella and eventually the two of them decided to make their way inside causing the two to immediately strike a friendship.
For Nina, it was the scent of air freshener from the Technology Lab, old sandwiches, and Oscar’s usual energy drink. Something that she smells each time she would help Oscar in his research in developing automata and other machines as well, it left her dead confused on why it made her think of him.
“Say what are you working on?” Lissa asked in a low voice.
“Hmm?” Altasia responded as she looked over the pot that was being cooled. “It’s a relaxant that’s meant to trigger certain smells that brings up a person’s good memory.”
And much like the Thomas’ group, they each have their own reaction towards it. For Lissa, it only increased her guilt and how she needs to fix what happened between her and Thomas. Louis and Jun simply smiled as they both remembered said moments while placing a reassuring hand on Lissa knowing full well that it would remind her of someone she needs to make amends with. Nina on the other hand is just outright confused about why Oscar of all people would be a basis for a good memory.
“Well, it seems to be quite effective.” Lissa simply gave her a fake smile as she immediately left earning a worried look from Louis and Jun.
Lissa made her way through the hallway and ran into Thomas, for a brief moment the two locked eyes for a moment. Lissa was about to speak up but he simply avoided her gaze and walked past her and all she can do is just look at him while quietly admonishing herself for not speaking up.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion. Chaos uploaded
At year 2100, there was a new game that was being developed: "Realms of chaos" With cutting edge technology, realistic physics(At least, as far as fantasy-medieval worlds goes), and immersion to the point one could believe it was real, it is destined to become world-wide famous. Two siblings, Nysa and Inas, received the right of beta-testing the game, along with other players...although with the beta-test, many difficulties came together with it: Unfair enemies, lack of clues, lack of linear paths, and above all, no set of rules of how one should play. Nysa, being the less competitive out of the two siblings, has decided to play the game just for fun.But little does she knows how much the action of a single player, who just wants to explore and have fun, can change the realm of chaos. This is my first story, and I'll upload whenever I manage to get through the writers' block.Due to college starting, uploads might be erratic. Feel free to review and comment!
