《The Devil's Parcel》Chapter 12: Near death

Lilith had hidden behind a bookshelf hoping the dragon had not seen her.
Her heart was pounding with such vigor she was scared the dragon would hear it.
The dragon could indeed hear it, and with the creak of the bookshelf, the dragon moved with blinding speed. Before Lilith could even process what the creaking meant, the dragon was in front of her.
Lilith could see the dragon clearly. Scars decorated the dragon from head to tail. Its tattered wings flapped lazily, waiting for the dragon's next movement.
The dragon opened its mouth and started talking.
Lilith could see countless rows of teeth as the dragon talked, "What are you doing in the library?!"
The words were enough to make Lilith start talking, "I-I-I don't know. I was at a spring near the forest, and the next thing I know is I'm in this Library."
"That is impossible! Only a select few are allowed into this Library."
In her shaky voice, Lilith said, "But it's true. I want to return to sol and take care of my egg."
Lilith could tell the dragon was confused by this revelation. "No mammal can lay eggs." The dragon thought for a moment before saying, "Unless.."
Lilith interrupted his thoughts, "That's right, mammals cant lay eggs, but when Alastor got me pregnant, I ended up laying an egg."
The dragon's expression turned from anger to horror in an instant. "I'm sorry. I didn't know your status was of such caliber."
The dragon immediately bowed his head, showing his non-aggression.
Confused about what was happening, Lilith asked the dragon several questions.
"What is this place?"
Lilith expected pushback, but the dragon answered her without hesitation, to her surprise. "This is the ancient Library. This Library is located out of space and time to ward off mortals."
"Why would you need to ward off mortals?"
"This Library has knowledge of everything from the past to the present."
"What about the future?"

"There is no future. To be more precise, the future doesn't exist yet."
"What do you mean by that?"
"I will try to explain it to you in a way you can understand. Think of time as a tunnel you are trying to dig; you must keep digging forward if you want to go further, but you can go back because there is already the tunnel you already carved out."
Lilith understood what the dragon was telling her. She asked the following question. "What are those poems on the wall?".
The dragon looked to where Lilith was pointing. He saw the carvings and the text, but not too long after; he began to sweat visibly again.
"That's impossible, " The dragon muttered.
The dragon switched tones. "You must leave the Library. NOW!"
With a shaky voice, Lilith replied. "Why?"
"The prophecy of destruction is now in action. We must be ready for war."
"But how do I get back?"
Lilith blinks, but her eyes don't open.
Panicking now, Lilith screams for help until finally, she opens her eyes.
She sits up fast but is stopped by the tube that's embedded in her arm
"Relax, Lilith, you're safe now."
She looks over to see Abel.
"What just happened?" Lilith said while grabbing her throbbing head
"I saved you from the Libraries hold."
The words ringed in Lilith's ears, but she managed to respond, "The Libraries hold?"
"The Library is located out of time and space, as you might know. Your body isn't used to being in those conditions, so you would've died if I didn't save you."
"How did you even know I was in the library?" Lilith's pain subsided as her body readjusted to the surrounding area.
"Brother told me you were there."
"Brother?"
"That's the dragon's name."
"I have so many questions."
"That's going have to wait," Abel warned Lilith
"Why?"
"The battle already started at our border."

The memories of what happened before she got to the Library hit her like a truck.
"Then why are we here talking???"
Lilith whistled for Cerberus, who came through a portal, and they went and rode towards the battle at incredible speed.
Lilith could feel knots forming in her stomach as she got closer and closer to the battlefield. Lilith was still not used to having to take the life of another, so this battle was a test of her resolve to protect her country.
As for Cerberus, all he could feel was the land underneath him as he ran towards the smell of fear and death.
In five minutes, Lilith was already on the battlefield.
Cerberus jumped through a portal in a single maneuver, leaving Lilith in the air. Lilith lands behind her opponents and goes for the kill but in a moment of hesitation, she only wounds three out of the five men surrounding her.
Without a second thought, the unwounded men rush Lilith.
Lilith reacts. She jumps backward to evade their attack but one of the wounded men fired an arrow aiming for the center of mass.
The arrow rips through the air threatening to wound Lilith when suddenly it stops midair right before impact. In fact, all the enemies Lilith was fighting were frozen.
Lilith lands and looks over her shoulder to see Lillia casting her suspension zone (An ability that stops anything hostile to the castor or their companions in its place)
This time without hesitation Lilith kills the enemy soldiers.
"You can't hesitate, Lilith, not now at least; We're at war."
"I know it's just OH MY GOD LOOK OUT!"
An enemy soldier wearing ruby red armor unsheathed his sword and thrust it at Lillia.
Lillia turned around to block but all she could do was move. The attack hit her shoulder instead of her heart.
"LILLA!" Lilith jumped at the red knight but he was too fast; before she knew it the knight was behind her.
Instead of going for a sword through the heart this time he went straight for decapitation.
The blade was ten inches from Lilith's neck when Cerberus portal opened. The three-headed dog caught the blade in his mouth and shattered it instantly.
The knight backed off and pulled out a dagger. "Are you a creature from hell?" The red knight said curiously
Cerberus ignored the man; he was analyzing and waiting for the knight to make his move.
The man was standing completely still.
"Lilith" Cerberus barked
"Yea?"
"Go help the other knights; This one is mine"
As soon as Lilith took a step the knight leaped into action but so did Cerberus.
Cerberus caught the dagger with his right head and with the middle head he grabbed the knight's wrist and did a forward death role.
The knight kicks Cerberus but his last head takes off the knight's arm.
In a swift motion, Cerberus moves all three heads and breaks the arm into three pieces.
The knight grabs his newly made stump in pain and says "We will meet again" before a witch appears behind the knight and then disappears with him.
"He got away. Tch" Cerberus said with a snarl
Cerberus ends up catching up to the two girls.
He is horrified to see most of the allied army injured or dead and the girls fighting for their lives against an army of more than two hundred.
Cerberus jumps toward the girls to save them with a portal but before he reaches them he hears the sound of victory bells.
Everyone that was fighting stopped to see what is going on. Horrified they all see a hooded figure ringing the victory bell before he disperses into a murder of crows.
Suddenly a loud whistle noise can be heard before a big crash happens in front of the girls.
Abel draws his scythe and then taunts the enemy "Hopefully this crowd is stronger"

8 136The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
