《The Daily Life of Akashi Takabi (Draft I)》Chapter XIII: A Lesson in Cutting Magic

It’s the middle of the night. I ended up falling asleep in the middle of the day earlier, so I’m not tired at all right now.
I’m standing in the middle of the training room.
“[Iknuu Dliin]!” I chant
What looks like a small portal of some kind opens halfway between me and the target and a large amount to the right. A second later it disappears.
… missed horribly.
“[Iknuu Dliin]!” I chant again
The portal opens up a bit closer to my target. I’m gonna keep trying until I actually hit it.
I’m getting kinda frustrated that I can’t hit it, and that makes me want to prove that I can do it.
“[Iknuu Dliin]!” I chant once more
Come on… a bit to the left
“[Iknuu Dliin]!” I try again
“[Iknuu Dliin]!” and again
And a few times more until I luckily hit my target.
The portal opens up right in front of the target and once it disappears a second later, a large cut is left across the target’s upper body.
It feels good using magic…
I feel kinda like I used all my mental energy now though… I wonder if that’s an effect of using magic?
It would make sense, I think. When someone utilizes a part of their body too much to fast, it will get tired.
I turn around to find Rosalie standing there.
“How…?” I begin
“I heard shouting so I came over to look.” She replies “Ah, and by the way, those were very far from being acceptable. It’s not nearly as efficient as it should be, and it’s also far from being compressed or sharp enough. It’s also slow. I’ll show you some proper cut magic.”
Rosalie chants “[uuliin dliin]!” and swings her arm. A bit in front of her arm, a streak of flame appears. It’s extremely thin and very bright. It’s also extremely fast.

“Spacial cut magic is one of them that are ranged. Normal ones are melee and are used by either magic melee fighters or by mages for melee defense.” Rosalie explains “That also means you’ll need to learn how to make your cut aligned with your arm, how to control it with your arm, as well as how to control it’s distance. I’ll show you an example of this with my wind cut, as it’s one of the ranged ones.” Rosalie tells me
She karate chops the air while also chanting “[deinii dliin]!”
The target in front of her is left with a cut all the way through that starts at it’s shoulder and comes out at the side, cutting through almost the entire thing. It’s holding on by a thread. It’s loud… the cut is very audible.
Eh? What just happened…?
The repairment time magic fixes the scratch I left on it previously, then after a bit, fixes Rosalie’s damage.
“Were you able to see it?” Rosalie asks
“...no,” I reply
“That’s the strength of wind magic. Though it’s weaker than other magics, and has comparatively little defensive power, it’s difficult to see, and faster than most other magics.” Rosalie explains “I’ll show you again with some fire magic to light it up.”
A small flame orb appears in Rosalie’s hand before she chants once more “[deinii dliin]”
The small flame orb is launched towards the target, leaving only a streak of red. It’s pulled back after passing through the target like it wasn’t even there, going out upon meeting back up with Rosalie’s hand.
It kinda reminds me of a yoyo’s arc…
It’s kinda beautiful, actually… I wanna watch more.
“Can you show me how you would fight with it?” I ask

“Please head to the edge of the room. I wouldn’t want to hit you.” Rosalie tells me
I do as she asks.
“Alright, keep your eyes peeled.” She tells me
Then she begins moving her arm in strange motions.
Wherever her arm goes though, a streak of light follows. It blinks in and out of existence, coming back to her hand every time it does so.
It looks really cool. It’s quite hard to describe it properly…
The streaks of light stop.
“Alright, now you try doing it properly.” she tells me
Ah. Okay. I’ll do my best.
I go in front of the completely destroyed targets and wait for them to repair themselves.
After they do so, I try.
“[iknuu dliin]!” I chant
It appears off to my right. I try swinging my arm.
…I completely missed the target…
“Ah, I can imagine it’s difficult to use spacial cut. It’s unusual in the fact that it doesn’t start off with starting at your hand like other cut magics.” Rosalie tells me “So it’s one of the hardest ones to learn.”
…why would you start me off with something difficult?
“If you can do a spacial cut though you’ll be able to learn how to do the cut magics for the other elements you can wield much more easily.” Rosalie explains
Ah… well I guess I can see where she’s coming from, but…
I sigh, before trying again.
“[iknuu dliin]!” I shout
I hit the target, but it’s a lucky shot and only glancing blow.
Again.
“[iknuu dliin]!” I shout again
It’s another fail.
My head’s starting to hurt…
It’s fine not to get it tonight… I’ll try again tomorrow.
“Is my head hurting after that normal?” I ask her
“Ah. Yes. Using magic takes up much of your brainpower. It’s like having a sore muscle. Hmm… you're still a baby so you might not understand properly… you’ve recently started training with Saith, correct? You know how your legs feel a little bit like they’re slightly burning if you use your legs too often? It’s similar to that. It’s worse later though so you should stop now. A particularly bad magic sore is extremely painful.” Rosalie replies
…hmm… okay. I’ll stop now then.
“Don’t worry. The pain won’t last for longer than a night.” she tells me
That’s good at least.
“Well, good night then, Akashi.” Rosalie tells me as she turns back and starts heading towards her room
Okay then. I’ll head to bed now then too.

But there is always more behind the veil of uncertainty, and Soren must be deathly sure of the decisions he makes. After all, curiosity can kill more than just cats. [Author: This is the first story I have ever written so have mercy on me. Bear with me please if I make any mistakes. I welcome all sorts of criticism as it will help me improve. Hope you guys like it.] PS: This story will contain explicit sexual content and profanities. The Mc is not a good guy in this story so don’t expect a nice Mc who will help others regardless of his well-being. P.P.S: The cover image is not owned by me. I used Adobe Spark to combine and edit some free images. P.P.P.S: Also posting on Webnovel, Moonquill, Wattpad, and Scribblehub. Edit: I thought I should add this in here because it seems to be a problem for many people--My inspirations came from mainly chinese webnovels, so my writing style resembled that a lot at start. I just wanted to leave a note here for people who don't like such stuff. I've already improved a lot and changed my style in recent chs, so hope you guys give it a try before dropping prematurely if that's your reason. Furthermore, I will also be editing all the early chs in the near future to make the quality similar to the recent chs. Current Schedule: 1 ch / week [On Saturdays]. [Will be increasing the release rate once I'm comfortable with this speed].

Rise
20 years have passed since the Chaos Energy Quake rippled through the Milky Way Galaxy. During the year-long Quake, Chaos Energy became unusable, rendering much of the galaxy’s technology useless, and preventing Chaotics – beings who possess supernatural abilities – from using their powers. The galaxy has since moved on from the Quake, but to this day no one knows what could have caused it. The only broadly possible hints lie with the woefully few Chaotics born during the Quake, such as the seven Chaotics born on the world of Nimalia, homeworld of the Nimalian Territories. The other galactic civilizations see little correlation between the Quake and those born during it, but now that the seven have reached the age of 20, some Nimalians think they may be able to finally learn exactly what caused the galactic disruption two decades ago…

The Crows and the Plague
As the Black Death ravages Medieval Europe, the ominous Plague Doctors (commonly called "Crows") may be the only thing standing between Christendom and extinction. There is no cure for the Plague, so all the Crows can do is stop the spread of the disease, even as the monstrous Vermin seek to spread it on purpose. But not everyone understands just how necessary the Crows and their often brutal methods really are. .............................................................................. This story is an alternate history/low fantasy story taking place in Medieval Europe. Rather than elves, goblins, and orcs, the fantasy elements in this story are generally things people in the Medieval era would have actually believed in, some exaggerated just a bit more for flavor.#thecrowsandtheplague
