《Azure Chronicles》Chapter 40: Tracking Down The Watch Owner Prelude

The sleeping Lola rolled around the fluffy pocket dimension that existed within Zalroth's tails with thousands of items inside of cyan bubbles floating around the open space. Lola let out a yawn and stretched her arms, and tails, out like a cat. Lola sat up and straightened out her pink onesie. She looked around to get her bearings before curling up into a ball and rolling off.
Lola rolled around the fluffy terrain and across multiple fur bridges. Lola rolled across one more bridge and onto an elevated pillar of fur before accidentally crashing into a sleeping Minia. Minia lazily opened her eyes and noticed the dazed Lola on top of her.
"You alright, professional driver?" Minia asked as she picked Lola up with a hand made from her slime hair. She stood back up and placed Lola on her feet.
"Why are you sleeping in such an odd place, Antie Mimi?" Lola asked.
"She was supposed to be checking on the Cresent Moon Staff and the katana that I don't know how to say the name of, but it seems she fell a little short," Nola remarked as she descended from above.
"I think papa mentioned it before; do you mean the Hakai no Michi?" Lola inquired and Nola hovered above her and Minia.
"Yeah, that's the one, though I have no idea why that justice and fighting obsessed maniac would willingly part with the weapon he's most proficient with," Nola mentioned as she wrapped her scarf around Lola and Minia before lifting them off the ground.
"Didn't he mention that he wanted to improve his proficiency with other weapons and didn't want to be tempted to use the katana, hence entrusting it to Zalroth," Minia remarked as she grabbed a bag of sweets from the magic bubble that flew past her.
"Well, I wouldn't put it past him," Nola mentioned before the trio flew off.
Nola slowly descended and placed Lola and Minia(with Nola keeping her scarf wrapped around the two) on an extremely steep mountain made from silver fur. Lola peaked her head over the edge of the mountain top and struggled to see the ground below. As Lola watched thousands of bubbled items spiral around the fur mountain, Nola and Minia inspected the two weapons embedded into the ground.

On the right was a staff made out of an opaque azure coloured material(that bore a striking resemblance to an azure gem) with a crescent moon protrusion at the top of the staff, although one end of the crescent moon part of the staff appears to have snapped off leaving a jagged edge.
On the left, there was a long katana, with a pale yellow handle and a pale blue strip wrapped around the handle, nestled inside a white sheath.
"Is that the katana?" Lola emphatically asked as she instantly appeared next to the katana and inspected the sword's golden six-pointed star handguard while her tails sporadically wagged.
"That's a weird-looking handguard," Lola commented as she hurried back to Nola and Minia.
"Well I think, it used to be a circle," Minia said as she put some sweets in her mouth and handed some to Lola.
"Did he decide to change it?" Lola asked as she munched on the sweets. Nola nervously chuckled.
"Let's just say, its owner made it very clear that I'm not allowed to touch it anymore," Nola stated. Lola tilted her head, and Minia got a devious grin.
"What Antie Nola is trying to say is that she broke it," Minia whispered to Lola. Lola was shocked to hear that and looked surprisedly at an embarrassed Nola.
"You don't need to rub it in Minia," Nola said as she rubbed her eyes.
Zalroth stood on top of the wagon at the front of the wagon train as it went over a greenish yellow grass-covered hill, allowing the almost horizon-wide lake to come into view. Zalroth spotted an island-like landmass close to the border of the lake, with small inlets between the island and the mainland. Zalroth also noticed a large mountainy area close to the city on the island that he concluded the village's attacker must be there.
Zalroth contemplated whether he should go look for the guy now or go later with Sophia and her friends since Ruby can track the guy. However, his contemplating was just short when he heard someone hop onto the roof of the wagon.
"Morning Mr Z, you're up really early today." Ruby chirpily said as she jogged over to Zalroth while carrying Star on her back.

"You don't need to be so formal, just call me Zalroth." Zalroth requested as he turned to face Ruby and Star.
"I don't know, it seems kinda weird to call you by your name, when Fifi calls you sensei," Ruby mentioned as she stopped in front of Zalroth.
"Young people are so semantic nowadays," Zalroth mentioned making Ruby chuckle and rubbed the back of her head.
"Yeah, I guess so, but wouldn't overspecific or nitpicky be more accurate?" Ruby remarked as Star reached over Ruby's shoulder in an attempt to grab one of Zalroth's tails. Zalroth moved his tail closer to Star allowing her to grab it. Star fluffed and squeezed the fur of the tail between her fingers as Ruby and Zalroth watched her.
"So, I assume there's something you wanted to tell me?" Zalroth asked as his tail, in Star's hands, playfully swayed up and down. Ruby lightly fake punched herself in the side of the head when she remembered she almost forgot why she was here.
"Well for two things, first Lady Akari want me to tell you she wants Scarlett and Snow for something and... wait where are they?" Ruby confusedly asked as she glanced at every inch of Zalroth's ten tails. Zalroth glanced at his tails and realised the sisters were gone. Zalroth sighed before plunging his arms into his tails; He rummaged around before pulling out the sleeping sisters simultaneously.
"And the other thing?". Ruby quickly looked around and moved super close to Zalroth.
"Charlotte and the others wanted to discuss something with you and Fifi, in private," Ruby whispered into Zalroth's ear.
"Right... well, we can talk later after I've dealt with the guy," Zalroth said before he noticed Star was frantically shaking his tail with a panicked demeanour.
"You... can't go." Star meekly pleaded as she tried to pull Zalroth closer to her. Ruby panically apologised and made Star let go of Zalroth.
"I guess whatever you gals want to discuss with me must be urgent..." Zalroth remarked as he quickly handed the sisters to Ruby, who put them under her arms.
"Alright, take these two to Akari then come back with Sophia and the others," Zalroth instructed. Ruby went to give a thumbs up but realised she'd probably drop one of the sisters if she tried, so she just nodded her head before hurrying off.
"That was a close one, he almost left; it's a good thing Star was so insistent on coming with me to see Zalroth," Ruby remarked to herself as she parkoured from the tops of the wagons.
Lola popped her head out from the spot in Zalroth's tails right above his head. Lola(now in her casual clothing) quickly climbed out of the tails and sat on Zalroth's shoulders.
"What were you talking about with Ruby just now?" Lola asked telepathically.
"She said she and her friends wanted to talk to me and Sophia about something; it probably involves the guy that the pocket watch belongs to since Star stopped me from going after him a second ago," Zalroth replied telepathically.
"Say, have you seen Nola or Minia in there? I asked Nola to check on Minia after I had her go check on my staff and the katana." Zalroth asked verbally while Lola swayed her head from side to side as she was humming.
"Yeah, I bumped into Minia while she was sleeping in the middle of a path before Nola appeared.". Lola retold the events that happened between Nola showing up and the three of them checking on the weapons at the top mountain made of silver tail fur.
"So they're still there, that's good to hear," Zalroth remarked. Zalroth slowly thought of something that confused him.
"If they have confirmed the weapons are still where they're meant to be why didn't they come back and tell me?" Zalroth wondered allowed. Lola rested her chin on Zalroth's head and yawned.
"They got into a fight because Minia kept making fun of Antie Nola for breaking the katana's guard thingy." Lola tiredly replied. Lola also added that Nola didn't break the spiky hand guard but the circle one.
"I see... well at least you and Kusana are more well-behaved than them," Zalroth remarked as he stroked Lola on the head making her smugly giggle and nuzzle her face into Zalroth's hair.

A D&D Gamer in Garweeze Wurld
He doesn't know how he got here, and while the trappings are familiar, he doesn't actually know where he is, either. From the perspective of those around him, Duromar is a half-ogre barbarian, an uncivilized brute by any standard you care to use. But from his perspective, he's a character created in a gaming system. From either one, he must live within the rules of that system. This is the story of a gamer who ends up in a game that's just a bit off from what he knows. ---- I wanted to write something a little bit old-school. Most of the LitRPG I've found seems to be based on computer RPG styled stories. Progression through levels is fast, and depending on the game, skills and even attributes can be trained with or without class levels. This wasn't true with the older pen and paper games, and that's the style of leveling I wanted to write.
