“Hey Akuma! Wake up! Class starts today.” Netsu Yelled, shaking my bed.

A few days had passed since the run in with the kid, whose name is Kori. It was now time for class to start. I had gotten here during the middle of their break so class was now starting for everyone. “What luck! We have the same class.” Netsu said, putting on his tie. “Yeah. Do we have to wear the tie?” I asked, buttoning my shirt. “No, I just like wearing it.” He said, opening the door. “Good, I don't know how to tie it.”

As we entered the class, I saw Akari and Kori sitting in the back. The room was situated like a college classroom, the seats were positioned higher up as they got further back. Me and Netsu made sure to sit next to them. I noticed that Kori's complexion was better, and the dull look in her eyes was now gone. I was relieved. On the table in front of me was a small bag. There was one in front of every seat.

“Hey, are you alright?” Akari asked, tapping on my shoulder. “You look exhausted.” I just smiled. “I’ve been having a hard time falling asleep.” I said, calming her. “Hard time my ass, you were out like a light.” Akai said, walking on the desk. Ignoring her, I looked to the front of the classroom. The large blackboard was covered in texts and drawings. As I looked on with fascination, A tall person walked into the room. Their pointed ears drew my attention.

“Hello students. For those of you who don’t know, my name is Renn, and I will be your teacher this semester.” Placing the books he was holding onto his desk, he began speaking again. “In front of you all is a small pouch. Some of you might know what this is, it is a dimensional bag, inside of it are all the textbooks and notebooks you will need for the semester.”

“Today, we will be having a test. As you all know, this academy teaches practical magic, so you will be having two on two battles using magic and basic hand to hand attacks.” Renn said, before opening the door. “The test will be held in ten minutes. Pick your partner and then head to the gymnasium.” Turning to look at Netsu, I saw him and Akari talking. I then looked at Kori, who was staring at me. “Guess we’re partners.”

The gymnasium was beautiful, the floors were made of concrete and the ceiling was open, allowing the clouds to be seen passing overhead. The walls looked almost roman in architecture, the area looked more like a coliseum instead of a gymnasium.

“Woah.” My tiny companion couldn’t contain her amazement. “I know right, this place is awesome.” I said, barely able to contain my own amazement. After everything got sorted out and all the teams drew a ballot, we were told to wait in the stands. “What did we get?” Kori asked, trying to reach the slip I was holding. “We got four.” I said, handing over the slip. We were the fourth group up. “What did you guys get?” Akari asked, peeking over Kori's shoulder. “Four!” Kori said, shoving the slip I had handed her into Akari’s face. “Dang.” Akari said. “We got three.”

“Testing, one two. Can everyone hear me?” The loud voice suddenly cut through the gym, startling most people, including Kori. “The academy has a microphone and speakers?” Akari said, surprised. “What’s so impressive about that?” I asked. “It’s one of the newer pieces of recovered technology.” She said. “Apparently there was a civilization before ours, and they had all types of technology. Other examples are the train, camera, and telephone.” All of the examples sounded familiar to me, as if I had heard them multiple times before. Ignoring it, I listened to what the professor was saying.

“It seems that we don't have even teams, would anyone like to volunteer to participate twice?” He asked, resulting in one person to raise their arm. “Perfect, then, group number one, please head down to the arena.” He said, signaling the beginning of the matches. The first two matches were uninteresting, everyone used a type of magic I could already use. There was a five minute intermission before the next match started, giving me and Kori time to talk to Akari and Netsu.

“Are you guys going to be alright?” I asked, slightly concerned. “We’ll be fine, we’re stronger than we look.” Netsu said, showing off the small amount of muscle he had. “We’ll be alright.” Akari said, seeing how little Netsu reassured me. After the five minutes were up, they were called down.

Their opponents were two guys, one had purple hair, and the other had a baby blue hair color. The one with purple hair was the one to raise their arm, meaning they would be our opponents next. I needed to pay close attention to this match. As soon as the horn blared, Akari formed a bow made of light, shooting an arrow at the one with blue hair. The yellow light nearly blinded me, It would have if I didn’t squint. Looking away from Akari, I watched Netsu. He ran towards the guy with purple hair, the two bracelets around his wrists morphing into gloves, with claws at the knuckles.

“Whoa.” I said aloud, amazed at the equipment. “How does that work?” I asked my spiritual companion. “They just infuse mana into the accessory, which turns into a weapon best suited for them. I wonder what yours will be.” She said, expressing genuine curiosity. “What would mine be?” I wondered. Looking back at the match, I witnessed a horrible defeat. The one with blue hair was able to use ice magic, trapping Akari in a block of ice. I looked at Netsu’s side of the arena, hoping he was doing better. He rushed the guy, setting his claws ablaze. Swinging towards his head, The man just dodged and jumped back, sending out a tentacle of pure shadow. It was as if I was staring at a black hole. As soon as I laid my eyes upon it, the purple aura began coursing through me, making it hard to keep focused. The tentacle smacked Netsu into the ground.

My vision turned purple, it was like when I auto dodge an attack, just instead of a deep blue color, it was a pinkish-purple color. “Why’re your eyes purple?” Kori asked, her own purple eyes staring into mine. “They are?” I asked, hiding my internal struggle. “Woah, yeah, looks kinda cool actually.” Akai said, poking at my eyes. “They’re glowing.”

The shadows rushed behind the purple haired guy, forming a wolf made of shadows. However, a horn blared, ending the match. The guy seemed frustrated that he wasn't able to use the wolf, but sent it away.
