《The Diamonds》I'm just tired

Finally, I brought myself to get out of bed. I got dressed and went to talk to Patty about what just happened.
Patty's reaction came as a surprise to me because she confirmed that the type of connection me and Abigail have now is real. "I never thought I'd see the day when another couple would have this type of connection!"
"Uh, why?" I asked.
"Because it's extremely rare!" Patty confirmed it. "It only works when true love is involved and I mean true love! The type of true love that will make you want to move mountains just to find the one that you love. I used to have that with Abigail and Simon's real father. But, for some reason when he left to go to earth and didn't return, I lost the connection. I'm not sure why that happened."
"So even though Abigail and I have this connection now," I said, "does it mean we can lose it too?"
"I'm not sure," said Patty, "the last time I was able to communicate with Abigail's father was right after the Elder's decided that I should marry that bastard Dr. Crow! After that, the connection was broken."
"Hmm," I said thoughtfully, "maybe I can use this to figure out where she is somehow? Although the only information I was able to get from her was that she was in some sort of dungeon. She has fangs like I do and she's also changed into this wolf form. I'm not sure what to make of that."
Patty's eyes went wide. "Shit! Did you just say wolf form?"
I nodded. "Yeah why? What's the problem?"
"That means she might have unlocked her magic finally and probably went through a lot more shit than what happened to you," Patty replied. "Every adult Diamond gets their wolf form and usually happens right after their magic has been unlocked. Sometimes it happens progressively and sometimes it happens right after you get your fangs. Knowing Dr. Crow, he did something to make Abigail snap, so she got her wolf form the same time she got her fangs. Now that he's put her in some sort of dungeon, I can only imagine the terrible shit he's putting her through. Knowing Abigail, she'll probably be liable to literally rip someone's head off during sex! Or just because she wants to."
I deadpanned, "So sex Praying Mantis style huh?"
"Um… Yes and no…" Patty answered. She looked away and didn't look like she was going to look me in the eyes anytime soon. I didn't blame her either. "It just depends on how aggressive the sex is. But since Diamonds can regrow their limbs, I guess it wouldn't be much of a problem?"
"Lovely," I said. Then I smiled at the conversation Abigail and I had when she talked about the wolf form she changed into. "Although Abigail's sense of humor can be a little bit darker than yours."
Patty looked at me and raised an eyebrow, "Oh?"
"When she mentioned her wolf form, she said and I quote," I said, "this takes the word bitch to a whole new level!"
Patty snorted. "Yup! That's Abigail for you!"
I laughed but it didn't last very long because my stomach growled. I groaned, "Why me?"
Patty sighed, "I know it's hard, but it happens. That's just the fact of life for us unfortunately."
"Is there any way I can just eat in my room instead of the Café?" I asked.

Patty nodded. "Yeah we can arrange that. Once you're finished eating just bring your dirty tray to the Café and you know what to do with it."
"Thanks," I said.
"No problem," Patty said.
With that, I left the room and went to go get my lunch.

{Abigail}
The next time I woke up it was to someone jabbing me really hard on my side.
"Wake up! It's time for your next meal!" I heard Shinjin bark.
I groaned and sat up. When I saw the raw chicken and fish he had on a gold plate, I just about threw up in my mouth at the site.
Shinjin smirked. "Interesting. So you get sick at the site of blood huh?"
I swallowed. "Yeah I do. I wish I didn't have to eat that stuff. It's gross!"
Strangely enough, Shinjin's smirk turned into a look of concern. I returned the look with a wary one. "What's that look for?"
"You know I only act evil from time to time but that's just because I have too," Shinjin said. "I am Dr. Crow's right hand man after all. What I am most concerned about is you getting sick or something like that. Not that I want you to return to the job of hunting down your friends and handing them over to Dr. Crow, I just don't like it when people get sick and they're under my care."
I gave him a look of disbelief. "Uh-huh yeah sure you're concerned. I don't believe that not one little bit! There's no way I'm biting you or anyone else, got that?"
Shinjin sighed, "Oh boy, Dr. Crow did say you were a handful! He wasn't kidding either. So what do I have to do to make sure you don't get yourself sick? There's two things you need to do in order to stop that from happening. The first thing is, eating your food. This time I have some juice that you can drink with it. If you're still hungry after you eat this, then tell me and I'll go get another plate. The second thing you need to do is you need to bite someone. I can't stress this enough and I mean you really NEED to bite someone. If you don't, that can make you sick because of the pain from them. While getting sick can't kill you, it can keep you from doing anything at all. It will pretty much hurt just to even move! I'm sure you don't want that, do you?"
I thought about it and being sick would be a better scenario for me because it would keep Dr. Crow from touching me for a while. I smiled. "You know something? I wouldn't mind getting sick. If it'll keep you and Dr. Crow from touching me for a while then fine, let me get sick! I don't care."
Shinjin actually looked fearful at my response. That response surprised me. "I didn't want to have to do this to you Abigail, but you have left me no choice. First, I'm going to shove this food and drink down your throat! The second thing I'm going to do is force you to bite me! And I know just how to do it too!"
I growled and bared my teeth at him. "Oh really? You want to make me do this huh? Well buddy, you're in for the fight of your life!"
Shinjin gave a small chuckle when I took my fighting stance. "Oh Abigail, now you're just being silly! Exactly how are you going to fight when you have one of your ankles tied to the bed?"
I smiled because I've gone through training exercises just for this type of situation. Learning how to fight when you're restrained was my specialty. "You have no idea what I can do!"
Shinjin cracked his knuckles. "Alrighty then, you've left me no choice, I'll humor you."
Shinjin threw a punch and I dodged it. He lunged at me and I merely stepped to the side and used the chain on my ankle to trip him. I laughed because I could already tell this fight was going to be a lot of fun. Shinjin lunged at me again and this time he headbutted me in the stomach. After he pulled back, I put him in a chokehold. With one arm around his neck, I used the free arm to punch him in the stomach a couple of times. When I let him go, he sat on the ground trying to catch his breath.
I gave him a pointed look. "You were saying?"
Shinjin got to his feet and snarled. He didn't say anything but he charged at me and threw a couple of punches. Two of the punches he threw landed on my stomach and then on my back. It didn't bother me. Hey, I ripped bullets out of myself just so I could keep fighting. When it comes down to battle, it's what I live for!
With this fight, it was kind of annoying because I couldn't do a roundhouse kick to gain the upper hand because of having one of my ankles tied to the bed. As the fight dragged on, it almost felt like Shinjin was letting me beat the crap out of him. If that was the case, that was fine by me. I was tired of being stuck in a confined space for hours at a time. Then when I was let out of said confined space, I was treated like a family pet. I was tired of being touched against my will. I was just tired in general.
Finally, I got tired of beating the crap out of Shinjin and I let him go. As I sat down on the bed trying to catch my breath because the fight took so long, Shinjin sat down on the ground trying to catch his breath. When he got to his feet, he dusted himself off and wiped the blood off his mouth. "Well, now that I've got you worn out a bit by letting you beat the crap out of me, do you think you can work with me here? How about we make a compromise?"
"I knew it!" I snapped. "That fight was way too easy! You little snake, that's cheating!"
Shinjin laughed, "Wow, you're mad that you have a moving punching bag? Seriously?"
"Well yeah," I said, "it's not a fair fight if it's too easy to win!"
Shinjin groaned, "Boy you are going to get on my nerves. But seriously though, why don't we call a truce?"
I narrowed my eyes at him. "A truce?"
Shinjin nodded. "Yes, a truce!"
"And what might that be?" I asked.
"I let you beat the crap out of me on a daily basis, which I'm sure Dr. Crow is bound to get a kick out of seeing me come to work with bruises because of you," Shinjin responded. "After I let you do that, you do what you need to do to keep yourself from getting sick."
I didn't have to think twice about my answer on this stupid deal. I scoffed. "No deal! Nope, not happening!"
Shinjin groaned, "You know you're really trying my patience! I didn't become Dr. Crow's right hand man without a reason."
"Oh really? Are you sure about that? Dr. Crow can cut corners sometimes and I wouldn't be surprised if he did that when he chose you!" I growled.
"Okay fine!" Shinjin snapped. "You leave me no choice and I'm being serious this time!"
Shinjin put the tray of food he had down on the bed next to me. He made me sit down and sat on my lap.
"Get off me!" I snarled.
"Nope!" Shinjin said. "Not happening! Now open wide and eat your food!"
Shinjin forced my mouth and shoved a piece of food down my throat. I swallowed it because he made it so I couldn't spit it out. After feeding me the rest of that disgusting food, he gave me the drink he had on the tray. I took it and drank it just to get the awful taste out of my mouth. At this point, I was extremely pissed. But there was still no way I was going to bite someone. Nope, not happening.
After I finished drinking I handed the cup to him.
"That was the easy part," said Shinjin, "now to make you bite me."
I just sat there and didn't say a word. I wasn't about to open my mouth just so he could get an opportunity to force me to bite him.
Shinjin looked at me thoughtfully, "You know I really don't want to have to pry your mouth open just to get you to bite me. So, I think it would make things easier if I bite you. I'm thirsty anyway."
Gross! Yeah now I know why Shinjin is Dr. Crow's right hand man, I thought, he's just as disgusting as Dr. Crow is!
I yelped in pain after Shinjin bit me on one of my wrists. Strangely enough, that bite made me want to bite him. I had no idea why. So after Shinjin finished drinking my blood, I bit him and I bit him as hard as I could on his shoulder. At first he let out a small yelp of pain and then he moaned in pleasure at it.
When I finally let go of him, he seemed disappointed that I did. Even though I didn't feel like having sex, it seemed that my body was in the mood for it. I was going to deny that as much as I possibly could. It wasn't going to happen and I didn't care if my body wanted it to or not.
Shinjin smiled and put his head on my chest. "I can tell by the way your body is acting that you want sex Abigail. But I'm not going to force you into doing it. Even though Dr. Crow did give me full license to do it. I'm not that guy of guy. But if Dr. Crow makes me do it, well…"
Great, and the nightmare just keeps continuing…
Shinjin frowned. "Oh come on Abigail! I'm not that bad in bed! Wait, let me guess it's because I'm working for Dr. Crow is it?"
I didn't say anything and I didn't confirm his answer. I wanted to say yes that was the reason I wasn't going to sleep with him. For some reason, I didn't like the thought of hurting the guy's feelings so I didn't say a word.
Even though I gave Ron the freedom to sleep with anyone because of him having needs to do so before I can get back to him, actually it's more like if I can get back to him. I wasn't about to let myself sleep with anyone willingly but Ron.
Shinjin's frown turned into a small flirting smile. "Or is it because you're saving yourself for Dr. Crow hmm?"
"No," I growled, "that sick bastard is not my boyfriend! Yes, I have a boyfriend and it's not him!"
Shinjin tilted his head. "Oh? Wait, that's right you mentioned someone by the name of Agent Silver, is he your boyfriend?"
I sighed, "Yeah that's him…"
"Oh, I see," said Shinjin, "you miss him don't you?"
I looked away and nodded.
"Alright then," said Shinjin, "at least you got something to eat and you bit someone. Please work with me here. It'll make things much easier on you if you do. I really don't want to shove food down your throat just so you don't get sick."
Shinjin got off my lap, gathered the empty tray and he left. After Shinjin left, I curled up on the bed underneath the blankets and went back to sleep.

{Ron}
After I ate my food in my room and I took care of the empty tray, I went back to my room and laid down. I was starting to feel kind of sick because I hadn't bit anyone and my fangs were killing me. I curled up underneath the covers, shivered a bit and then moaned in pain. There was a knock on the door and I was in so much pain at the moment that I didn't think I could get up so I called out, "The door's opened, you can come in!"
Asher came in and he looked very concerned about me. "Are you okay Ron?"
I moaned, "Does it look like I'm okay?"
"You look like you're in pain," said Asher, "what's wrong?"
"What's wrong?" I replied. I opened my mouth to show him my fangs. "This is what's wrong!"
Asher blinked. "Okay, when did you get fangs?"
I sighed, "After we went to the hospital and saw Nurse Nova aka Simon."
Asher snorted. "Yeah I knew it was him! I know he cross-dresses sometimes too. Anyway, please explain to me what's been going on with you lately. Maybe I can help?"
I gulped but then I decided it was best to explain things to Asher, even though I couldn't think clearly because I wasn't feeling well. I was surprised that Asher didn't run away from me screaming, but he just sat there and it looked like he was trying to process the information the best he could.
Then he gave me a smile and it didn't look like a regular smile either. I had no idea what that smile meant and it kind of creeped me out. "Okay, what's that look for Asher?"
Asher looked like he was debating about something. Then he said something very surprising to me. "Um, Ron? I have a confession to make…"
I wasn't sure if I wanted to hear what Asher had to say so I braced myself for what came next.

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. A chance to claw her way up the rigid social and financial ladder to make something of herself. A chance that wouldn’t come naturally to someone as familiar with dark alleyways and the glint of steel as she was with office work and corporate niceties.Book One is up on Kindle Unlimited as of 7/6/22 - https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B0B2X3L8H5
