《The Diamonds》A Friendly Game of Laser Tag

{Abigail}
I heard them. I heard the screams of pain from my teammates fellow Diamond Agents being slaughtered and for what reason? To take Shaw Castle from the enemy? What was the enemy doing in Shaw Castle that was so bad that we had to fight desperately for it? I heard the sound of gunfire and looked around to see a lot of my teammates' bodies lifeless on the ground. Blood was everywhere. I remember saving one of my teammates, she was about to get her head chopped off by an enemy soldier. I remember punching the guy with such brute strength that it sent him flying into the ceiling.
I helped my teammate get to her feet and I saw she was already injured. I asked her, "What happened to you?"
"I got hit by a stray bullet, although I'm not quite sure if it was a bullet," The woman said. I could tell by the sound of her voice she was struggling to breathe. I had her lean on my shoulder for support. "Agent Black, you should've let the enemy Agent kill me. I don't think I'm going to live-"
She didn't even finish her sentence before she dropped dead. I stared in horror at her lifeless body. I remembered thinking about how stunned I was by this. I trembled with anger as I shouted, "She was just talking to me two seconds ago and now SHE'S GONE! SHE'S GONE!"
I felt my anger stirring inside of me. The strangest thing happened next. I felt a strong surge of power go through me. At the time I thought it happened because of my strong determination to get to the enemy and destroy them. I wanted to destroy all of them! Every. Single. Last. One of them.
A light flashed brighter than the sun. The flash of light came out of the building and surrounded it. Just like that, the war was over within the blink of an eye. I sank to my knees, hatred still flowing through me. I was shaking for I didn't know how long until I looked up when I heard a familiar voice. It was my mom who is also the Head of the Diamond Division. "It's okay Agent Black, you did good. The war is over with, thanks to you."
I looked up at her and blinked. "The war is finished? I ended it? How? How is that even possi-"
I didn't even get to finish my sentence. I felt the prick of a needle in my shoulder and then I fell asleep.
* * *
I woke up shrieking from the memory of the war that I had been dreaming about.
"Whoa Abigail! Calm down!" I heard Ron say. I wondered if he knew that telling someone that's freaking out to calm down only makes their freak out worse? Apparently not. I screamed bloody murder and that was when I felt a slap on the face.
That seemed to snap me out of it. I blinked a couple of times and looked around my room. I let out a sigh of relief knowing that I wasn't back at the war, the battle for Shaw Castle.
"Sorry about that Ron," I said. "I was just having ah…" I wasn't sure if I should say that I was having a bad memory or a bad dream. Actually when you think about it, both of them are correct. "I was having a bad dream, that's all."
Ron raised an eyebrow. "A bad dream huh? Are you sure about that? You shoved me out of the bed, almost sent me flying into a wall and then you started screaming bloody murder."

I felt my cheeks get hot and I looked away. Ron chuckled, "Hey it's okay Abigail. Tell you what, if you talk to me about what happened, I promise I won't tell anyone else. You can trust me. It seems like you need more than just someone to cuddle with when you're asleep."
I got over my sort of embarrassment and took a deep breath and let it out. "No Ron, it's okay. I don't want to talk about it at the moment."
Ron nodded. "Sure okay then. As I said, I'm here if you want to talk. I won't tell anyone else."
Ron looked over at my alarm clock when we heard it go off. I sighed, "Well, it's time to get ready for now. Even if I am on call at the moment, there's still a possibility I could still get sent out on a mission."
Ron shook his head. "I don't think so, doesn't Patty usually wait a week before sending you out on another mission?"
"Yeah you're right," I said, "but I still have to be on my game just in case."
Ron smiled. "Don't you know how to take a break for a change Abigail?"
"Nope," I replied, "not until I retire from being an Agent."
"Wow," said Ron, "why does that not surprise me?"
"Okay do you mind leaving so I get dressed?" I asked.
Ron nodded. He left and I got dressed. I met Ron out in the hallway and he had changed his clothes too. He was wearing the uniform that showed he was a Diamond Agent and I was wearing the same uniform of course. We both had our buttons pinned to our shirts that we used to transform into our outfits that we wear on a mission.
Then we heard an urgent message play over the intercom, "All top ranking Agents please report to the main conference room! All top ranking Agents please report to the main conference room!"
"That doesn't sound good," I frowned.
"Yeah, usually when we're called to the main conference room," said Ron, "something big is going to happen!"
"Yeah and if it's all of the top ranking Agents," I added, "then it's really important."
"Well, let's go!" Ron said.
We raced down the hallway to the main conference room to see what was going on.
* * *
Once we got to the main conference room every single Diamond Agent that was on the top ranks of the Agents in The Diamond Division was there. No one that was in the lower ranks were there. I rolled my eyes when I saw Asher scowling at Ron and me standing close together. My expression changed from annoyed to amused when I saw Ron sticking his tongue out at Asher.
"What do you think you're doing with my future girlfriend?" Asher growled.
Ron smirked. "What makes you think she's your future girlfriend? You know you can't take her by force right?"
"Asher and Ron knock it off and look at me!" I heard Patty snap.
All of us looked at Patty and my eyes widened when I saw a young man sitting on a chair next to her. He looked a lot like Agent Dawn, the man that came to rescue me at Dr. Crow's lair. Only now he didn't have a mask and wasn't in his agent's uniform. The man looked at me and smiled.
I thought, It almost seems as if he remembers me from when he rescued me. Who is he?

My question was answered when he stood up and introduced himself. "Hello there, top ranking Diamond Agents of The Diamond Division. My name is Wrinkler. I am the new assistant to the Head of this Division Patty."
Wrinkler nodded in Patty's direction and sat down.
"Thank you Wrinkler," said Patty. "Now there is an important reason why I have brought you all here today. Wrinkler, will you please bring me the box?"
Ron and I exchanged a look as did everyone else in the room.
Patty smiled. "I know what those confused looks are. I'll explain here in a moment."
Wrinkler handed Patty a silver rectangle lock box. "Now in this box are keys to help you transform into your new outfits as top ranking agents of the Diamond Division. Of course, I need to open up the box with a key."
Me and the others snickered at the fact that Patty needs to open up a box full of keys with a key.
Patty chuckled, "Yeah, yeah I know. Funny huh?"
Wrinkler handed Patty the key to unlock the box. My jaw dropped when I saw what was inside. Patty wasn't kidding about keys. But these weren't ordinary keys. The keys were gold plated with different color gems in the middle of the top part of them. Two of the gold keys had black gems in the middle of the top of them. Two of the keys had silver gems in the middle of the top of them. Two of the keys had red gems in the top of the middle of them. Two of the keys had purple gems in the middle of the top of them. Two of the keys had white gems in the middle of the top of them. Last but not least two of the keys had blue gems in the middle of the top of them.
I tilted my head. "Why do the keys have gems on them?"
"Good question Abigail," Patty said. "You know the gems that are pinned to your shirts to help you transform into your agent uniforms? As I just said before, this is the same concept but at a much higher level of technology. It's nothing compared to whatever weapon you can make, Ron."
I snorted and everyone else did the same. I tried not to laugh because Ron's face went red at that comment.
Patty told Wrinkler to hand out the keys to us. I looked down at my key in wonder. The gold key had a black gem in the middle of the top of it and there was a name engraved on the handle of it: Black Daybreak Diamond.
Okay, I thought, this is different…
"Now," said Patty, "in order for you to change into your new outfits, you must say the words engraved on your key handles and then the word 'release' after it. You'll figure out the rest as you go along. Oh and you guys have the rest of the week off. So spend it wisely, although I would recommend to a couple of you agents to at least take a break and have some fun. Isn't that right Abigail?"
I felt myself blush and I looked away because I knew Patty was right because she's my mother after all.
"That is all," said Patty, "you are dismissed!"
All of us nodded and left the main conference room. Since the keys we were given had gold chains on them so you could wear them like a necklace we wore them around our necks. I had my necklace on and stuffed the key down my shirt so it wasn't visible.
I thought about what I wanted to do for the rest of the day and even though I really badly wanted to go to the training area I thought about my mom's advice. I felt someone tap me on the shoulder and rolled my eyes when I turned around and saw Asher.
"Hey Abigail," said Asher, "I was wondering since you need to learn to take a break for the day, do you want to go to the mall? They have a place where you can play laser tag. It's nothing like the training area, but it's actually a fun version of the training area and it's very dark in there too."
I rolled my eyes. "Seriously Asher? I don-"
"You know that's not a bad idea!" I heard Wrinkler say. I tried so hard not to roll my eyes at that comment out of respect for him. He came up and whispered into my ear, "Besides, Patty is right, you need to learn to take a break. Hey, even I know that and I'm a higher rank agent than you are. You can't save anyone if you can't help yourself."
"Yup I totally agree with that Wrinkler!" Simon said and from that, everyone on my team agreed that we would go to the mall and try to play laser tag as Asher suggested.
But I know why Asher suggested it. He wanted a chance to make out with me in a dark area and lead it into who knows what else. I knew one thing for sure, I'm not playing laser tag on his team. Nope, not happening.
* * *
When we got to the mall Wrinkler was smiling at a young woman and she had blue-dyed colored hair. The woman ran up to Wrinkler and kissed him.
"Hey Remi," said Wrinkler, "ready to play some laser tag?"
"Oh yeah," said Remi, "are you kidding me? Laser tag is my favorite thing to do at this mall!"
"Okay I guess introductions are in order." Asher said. "My name is Asher!"
"My name is Abigail," I said.
"My name is Ron," Ron said.
"My name is Simon," Simon said.
"My name is Ararav," Ararav said.
"I'm Izabella," Izabella said.
"I'm Kari," Kari said.
"I'm Tammy," Tammy said.
"I'm Hannah," Hannah said.
"I'm Soren," Soren said.
"I'm Mark," Mark said.
"I'm Charlotte," Charlotte said.
"Okay then, my name is Remi," Remi said. She pointed a finger at herself and said proudly, "I'm better at laser tag than anyone else here! I bet I can beat all of you at a game of laser tag with one hand tied behind my back!"
Wrinkler did a facepalm and groaned. "Nice introduction Remi. It was over the top as usual."
I laughed. "Wow. Yeah that was interesting alright."
"Okay," said Asher, "since this was my idea. I get the first pick on the teams. Ron, you get to be the other team captain."
"Okay who died and made you the boss Asher?" Ron snapped.
"I said," growled Asher, "it was my idea so that makes me the boss and I get the first pick! So Abigail, I pick you to be on my team."
I groaned, "Do I have to?"
Wrinkler nudged me on the shoulder. "Don't worry I for a fact Asher likes you. Me and Remi will volunteer to be on your team, we'll protect you from him."
I snorted. "Thanks for the help."
Just as Wrinkler said, he and Remi chose to be on my team. The others on Asher's team were Kari, Tammy and Hannah. The ones on Ron's team were Simon, Soren, Mark, Charlotte, Izabella, and Ararav. It surprised me that Ararav, Asher's twin, wasn't on Asher's team. Normally those two go everywhere together. Yet again, I had a sneaking suspicion of why that was. They probably planned things this way so it would double Asher's chances to 'win' me over. Like that's going to happen.
So we entered the laser tag area after paying our fee to go inside. The employee there explained the rules of the game and explained how our 'weapons' work. The weapons were just way too easy to handle in my opinion. The weapon was a light backpack attached to a toy gun. In order to shoot at someone you had to press the button on the toy gun and aim the red laser that came from it at the bullseye on the backpack of an opposing team's backpack. The backpack would light up when you hit the bullseye on someone's backpack and then the same thing goes for the backpack I was wearing. If someone shot me when I would feel a buzz and my backpack would light up. If I got shot it meant that I had thirty second timeout period before I could shoot at someone and no one could shoot at me during that time period either. Once the timeout period was over, you could get back into the game.
Since I had a lot experience of hitting moving targets this stupid game was going to be a cake walk for me. The other agents playing along with me, I knew for a fact they felt pretty much the same way.
I rolled my eyes and thought, This is supposed to be fun? I guess if you include running around in dark spaces which I've also had a lot of experience with and then add light up toy backpacks to that, yup that sounds like a lot of fun. Knowing Asher he'll probably try to play like he's a hero in the game protecting me from enemy fire. Yup, this is going to be loads of fun.
I looked over and saw the look of amusement on Wrinkler's face told me he knew what I was possibly thinking. The opposing team separated into different areas of the laser tag arena. I stood with the rest of Asher's team in front of a gate big enough for us to go through and we waited for the countdown for the greenlight so we could go inside.
Once we got the go ahead to enter, it was amusing to me because Asher took a fighting stance as if he were in the middle of a real battle. "Stay behind me Abigail, I'll protect you!"
I snorted. "You know this is just a game right Asher?"
"Yeah, but I'm not taking any chances for our team to lose," Asher said.
"Okay, but we do have the I'm better at laser tag than any of you Remi on our team," I said, "so I think we'll be fine."
"I doubt that," said Asher, "because I've never seen her play."
Hmm, I wonder… I thought. I was wondering if I could actually shoot a teammate in the back while he wasn't looking just for shits and giggles. I also wondered if this game was designed for someone to get hit by friendly fire like in a real battle.
I pulled the trigger on my toy gun and after aiming the red laser at the bullseye on Asher's backpack. It lit up and buzzed, confirming that yes, I could give Asher friendly fire and that worked for me. I laughed and took the opportunity to get as far away from him as possible.
"Hey!" I heard Asher say as I ran from him. "You shot me! What was that for?"
I kept laughing as I ran from him and didn't respond to his question. I heard Wrinkler laughing from behind me.
"Nice one Abigail!" Wrinkler laughed. "At least you can do friendly fire to get away from that idiot."
"I know right?" I chuckled. "Now that was awesome! Although I doubt that's going to get rid of him-"
I groaned when I saw Asher running up to me. He growled, "That was a cheap shot Abigail. I'm not letting you out of my sight from now on. You're not going to be able to do that again."
Okay, time for another plan. This is an operation to get rid of the idiot now. Plan A didn't work, I guess I'll have to think of plan B. My thoughts were racing trying to figure out another way to get rid of Asher when I heard a loud boom coming from the other side of the laser tag arena.
"What the hell?" I said. I spun around to see that part of the far left wall of the laser tag arena had been blown off. It was clear that someone had set off a bomb somewhere. The alarms sounded inside the laser tag arena and an urgent message played over the intercom telling us to evacuate the area. There was no way I was going anywhere until I figured out what was going on.
Asher turned to leave and he grabbed me by the shirt. "There's no reason to stay here, we're not on a mission Abigail. We can- Shit! It's them! How did they know we're here? Either way, we need to go! Now!"
I shrugged off Asher's hand on my shirt and for whatever the reason he ran off leaving me behind to get out of the area. I wasn't sure what everyone else did. I hid in one of the darkest spaces in the area and looked in horror when I saw them. Three big guys wearing suits that had Dr. Crow's name on them. Beside the words Dr. Crow was a picture of a crow.
Okay, I know I'm not on a mission, I thought, but it's still my duty as a Diamond Agent to protect the city of Canter. I'm not letting any innocent people get harmed or killed because no one was looking out for them.
I pulled out the key that I was wearing. Well, no time like the present! Let's see what this key can do!
I looked down and read the engraved words on the key handle and said. "Black Daybreak Diamond release!"
After that, I felt a surge of power go through me and I felt my uniform come out as I transformed into Agent Black. Or at least I thought I was transformed into Agent Black. I looked down to see that I was now wearing black boots with black pants. Around the cuffs of the boots were gold bracelets, I was also wearing a black shirt and I looked down at my wrists to see that I had gold bracelets on them. I felt a hooded cloak tie around my neck. I also had the same type of mask that I would wear as I was transformed into Agent Black around my eyes.
Okay, this is new. Although mom did say it was a new form of technology. I thought.
I smiled as I stepped out of the shadows and stared down Dr. Crow's three goons that had appeared out of nowhere.
I snarled, "What are you doing here?"
"I would like to know the answer to that question too!" I heard Wrinkler say. I gasped when I saw him. He was transformed into Agent Dawn.
"Well, well, well," one of Dr. Crow's Agents said, looking at Wrinkler. "If it isn't one of the DA's we're after. Agent Dawn aka the Man in the Red Hood, how nice to see you again. Dr. Crow is upset that you helped Agent Black get away. That won't happen again because you're coming with us!"
"Yeah, like that's going to happen!" I snarled.
When the same Agent saw me he shrank back in terror. "No way! It's you! I thought Dr. Crow got rid of you years ago!"
I tilted my head. "Say what now?"
The same Agent said, "Black Daybreak Diamond! The most fiercest Diamond Warrior ever!" He smirked. "Well now, if I can take you down, I think Dr. Crow will give me the finest reward when he sees your dead body!"
"Uh, Black Day-" I didn't finish my sentence when the Agent charged at me. He threw a punch and I caught it in my hand. I smiled. "Fiercest Diamond Warrior ever huh? Exactly why are you calling a DA a warrior now?"
The Agent gasped, "You don't remember do you?"
"Remember what?" I asked. I let go of the Agent's fist when I saw another Agent run towards me out of the corner of my eye. I grabbed the Agent's arm that ran toward me and threw him into a nearby wall. Judging by the loud thud and the way the Agents body was slumped over he was just knocked out. I could tell because he was still breathing. I looked at Wrinkler and I wanted to ask him what the hell was going on when the Agent that wasn't knocked out came at me with a weapon. The weapon looked like a small knife and when I went to dodge it somehow the Agent got behind me and put the knife up against my neck.
"Don't move," The Agent snarled.
I rolled my eyes. "And why would I do that?"
"Unless you want to get your throat cut and bleed out because of it, I wouldn't move if I were you," The Agent said.
This guy has no idea who he's dealing with. I've been in this situation before. I can handle him even if it means breaking his arm to do so. As long as I don't make a mess out of him with a lot of blood. I thought.
I grabbed the guy's wrist and squeezed as hard as I could. The Agent let out a yelp of pain as I pulled the knife away from him. I cocked my head to the side and looked at him. "You were saying?"
The Agent grabbed his wrist I that had squeezed and snarled, "You broke my wrist you stupid bitch!"
I smirked and taunted, "What are you going to do about it? You know you have to kill me if you want your reward from the lovely Dr. Crow."
"Fine," the Agent growled, "it's your funeral!"
I rolled my eyes. Seriously? He really thinks he can kill me after what I just did to him? Gee, I don't know who's stupider, this guy or Asher?
I ducked and dodged every single punch the Agent threw at me. This surprised me that he was even able to do that because of his broken wrist. Finally, I got tired of the stupid fight so I dodged the next punch and landed a kick to the stomach. The guy stumbled backwards howling in pain. I landed another kick to his stomach and this time it threw him up against a nearby wall knocking him out. I looked over and smiled to see that Wrinkler had disabled the other Agent he was fighting. Thankfully he was just knocked out like the other two Agents were.
Wrinkler then dusted his hands off. "Well that was fun! It sure beats playing laser tag with Asher any day huh Black Daybreak Diamond?"
I nodded and at this point I was thoroughly confused about what the hell was going on at the moment. "Okay, so how do I transform back?"
"Oh, all you have to do is rub the gem on your key with your index finger to do that," Wrinkler answered. "But I would wait until you're well out of sight of security cameras."
"Okay then."
Wrinkler and I ran out of the laser tag arena and when we got to the bathrooms we changed back into Wrinkler and Abigail.
