A wish come true part 4

As they are walking down the street something caught luke's attention it was a shop but unlike other shops around it, it looked fancy compared to others and it had a properly Made sign instead of the haphazardly hanged planks that is the majority of other shops and complete with beatifully carved symbols on it.

Curious, Luke stopped and asked Vina about the shop since he can't read the sign apparently the translation potion worked for your mouth and ears but not for your eyes for some reason "hey what kind of shop is that? It looked special"

"Oh? That's a rune shop, that's where you commision runes to a runemaker"

"Runes? As if in enchantment?"

"Yeah why do you ask? Wait don't tell me"

"Can i.."

"No, runes are expensive only rich people can afford Them"

"But we have gold coins"

"Did you forget what we talked about last time? About being careful with your spending?"

"Well yes but... Think how awesome it is! I can enchant my weapon!"

"We're good enough for now Luke there is nothing more we can purchase from the shops without raising questions, besides you probably don't know how to use runes"

"I can ask the runemaker to teach me"

"Still no you haven't even done any job yet! We have gold coins now Luke but that doesn't Mean we can just run around throwing parties"

"So what you're saying is if i manage to pass tommorow's test and help you do some jobs you Will allow me to buy some runes?" He asked with a innocent smile

'by the Gods above! this man thinks like a pup!'

"Hmm.. maybe, before you get happy let me tell you that i put heavy emphasis on that maybe"

"Great let's go back and rest then"

'*Sigh* sure'

NEXT MORNING

Luke prepared himself, today is the day of the test where he Will fight kottar, not those other fights with a wooden Axe mock-up, no it's time for a real Axe.

He stands straight with his battle Axe in hand, kottar on the other side of the ring with his Two single handed Axe on each hand, Luke had chosen a two handed Axe for this event, the Axe has been dulled to the point where it can't cut you of course you don't want anyone getting killed but it Will still hurt more than the wooden ones "are you ready human? Let's see how much you've learned from our training"

"As ready as you are"

"Good, first one to get 4 hit wins!"

They immediately started circling each other looking for a window of opportunity

To strike, Luke charged and his Axe was deflected easily.

kottar swings one of his Axe upon seeing the window but was blocked by Luke using the handle of his Axe, but by blocking one side he exposed the other and kottar swing his axe again, the swing was about to hit Luke when kottar stopped mere centimeters from his armor.

"One-zero"

Came a familiar voice from outside the arena, they both looked at the source to find Vina leaning on a tree watching Them fight "huh.. ok"

Luke and kottar backed away from each other and started moving in circles again

This time kottar charged, the orc was fast for his body size and a surprised Luke soon found an Axe right on his nose, the dulled tip ever so slightly brushing with his skin.

"Two-zero"

Backing away for the second time Luke put all focus on his opponent, he charged and and instead of getting blocked this time he positioned his Axe to knock out kottar's Axe, it worked and kottar losed his balance, Luke took the chance and did side swing, he managed to stop before hitting kottar

"Two-one"

Luke looked up to find kottar nodding at him and they backed away again.

It was imppresive she thought, Vina had been keeping track of the fight and honestly expected Luke to go down on the first 5 minutes but yet again he managed to exceed her expectations, Luke had took the first two hits but it's clear to her now he hadn't put all his focus then, now that he is Luke managed to block most of kottar's attack and land hits, and kottar got serious too his posture seemed more alert than before now that Luke had take it seriously.

After that the fight had Transformed to a game of blocking,deflecting and dodging the Axe heads have been hitting each other so much she was pretty sure they we're getting re-sharpened on each hit

"Three-three"

she said as Luke landed a hit on kottar, backing away for the sixth time they move on circles again Vina is worried for Luke, he looked absolutely spent meanwhile kottar looked like he just took a morning jog, but she can tell he is too getting tired, they charged again this time in sync, kottar had one Axe above his head and the other one doing a wide swing on the side, she Saw as Luke stopped and positioned himself and in a spectacular show of precision used both the Axe head and handle to stop kottar's double attack at the same time, the Axe now stuck to each other, Luke lifted his Axe which threw kottar backwards and he swinged an upward swing before stopping to not hit kottar's chin "three-four"

"Hah! impressive Luke! Seems like i just got myself an official student!"

Luke who celebrated by lifting his Axe in the air stopped and looked at him "what?"

"What do you Mean what? You just passed the first basic but major test, Congrats!"

"Wait the basics?"

"Are you expecting to be an Axe master on a week? Oh no, you need more time, in the future i'm expecting you to come back and learn more"

"Oh.. well thanks for lessons so far kottar i'm very grateful for it"

"No problem, tell me the next time if you want to learn something"

"Will do kottar"

The orc just nodded, he looked to Vina to find her smiling a proud smile "i told you i can do it!" She just laughed and shook her head

"Soooo what job did you pick?"asked Luke

"I haven't" Vina responded as they stand on front of the quest board

"Why?"

"We pick it together"

"Oooh.. i... Pick this one!"

She looked to find him pointing at a job with 10 danger mark, it was a request by the town to find and slay a spider queen "no, too dangerous and your fear of spider is going to get in the way, let's find something easier"

"Hey, i'm not afraid of spiders! That time in the forest is just natural!"

"Sure.... Hmm how about this one?"

She pointed at a quest to clear a slime infestation on a mine, it had 3 danger mark since slimes are really weak and can't really hurt you infact they're so easy the danger mark came more from the mine itself rather than the slimes

"What's that you know i can't read right?"

"It's a mission to clear up a mine from a slime infestation, the pay is good and it should be easy"

"Okay then i kinda wanted something hard but i guess you're the expert"

"About time for the recognition" she said with a smug smile and a exaggerated stroke to her fur, Luke just looked at her looking annoyed.

As they walked on a path leading to the mines several questions came to her head

"Hey Luke, can you tell me more about you world?"

"Hm? My world? Well it's hard to explain but it's suffice to say it would incredible"

"How incredible"

"Flying machines that weighted tons? Giant ships of metal hundreds of meters long? How about that?"

"Sounds hard to believe, but knowing you it's probably true, what else?"

"Well there is the building and Cars you Saw on the video.."

"Can you explain that little thing you have? If not magic then what?"

"Well how do i explain it? Basically it's powered by electricity which is like Tiny lightning and there is system inside that make it possible, i don't know i'm not an expert, anyway the phone is kind of a thinking machine, fake life basically at it's most basic form"

"It's sentient?"

"Not sentient, just knows how to do things like you know a wheel, a wheel doesn't have a mind but it can do things, this thing is similiar just smarter"

"It still confuse me"

"No surprise on that one"

"What else?"

"Well those buildings you see on the phone those we're Made of glass,metal and concrete"

"I understand glass and metal but what is concrete?"

"It's a mix water and cement which is a dry mix of sand and clay i think? When it hardens it gets really hard and tough to break"

"That simple?"

"Hey! Dry mix, and when i said dry i Mean powder kind of dry, the kind of dry you get from high heat for a long time"

"How do you sustain a fire that long and hot?"

"I'll explain in the future"

"Ok... What is Rp...."

She was interrupted by a sound of a slime jumping in front of Them

"Whoa hey there little guy you don't look dangerous at all" Luke tried to touch it

"Luke don't.."

Her warning was cut short by a sound of a wet slap as the slime jumped to his head

"Mmmphh! Git eff mih!"

She watched as Luke panicked And tried to pull the slime off his head, she founds it rather hilarious "Mey! Helep mi her!"

She moved quickly and stabbed the slime in it's solid soft core in the middle with her dagger barely missing Luke in the head, the slime dissolved into a blue liquid absolutely drenching her partner

"Bah! What was that?"

"A slime obviously, it just jumped to your head to digest it"

"What? It tried to eat me?"

"Well yeah what do you expect of wild slimes?"

"I thought it might get scared or something"

"Slimes aren't smart enough to know what's food and what's not"

"Huh... Now i'm wet, wait! Are we close to the mine?"

She pointed behind him to the line of bush and trees, they walked through it to find a cave with old mining equipment scattered on the entrance and a bunch of slimes hopping around eating rocks

"so we're supposed to kill Them all, get in the mine and search what caused it if possible right?"

"Yup"

"Let's go then i want revenge for my wet clothes" he said while lifting his axe

After killing all the slime outside which involved two additional slime-jump-to-the-head accident which left Luke wet and Grumpy yet again, they walked into the mine to find it rather devoid of slime, which is not what they expect

"I thought it said infestation? There is a lot outside, why is there none inside?"

"I don't know let's keep walking do you bring the torch?"

"Well yeah but it's wet because the slimes outside"

"No problem it can still Ignite"

They walked deeper into the mine, after some time they encountered more slimes which is to be expected, but these slimes are different rather than the soft bouncy one outside, these are slimes with a rock shell that roll and bounce all over the place

It was easy enough, her arrows had no problem going through the thin Shell of rock and her and the Axe of her companion pretty much cut Them in half although Luke did get dazed after a lucky hit to the face from one of Them

"Hmm a different kind of slime, i think there is something bad down here"

"Why? They're not that hard, they do hurt though, ow"

"Slimes changed form when they have a leader among Them, an alpha slime or something"

"So? It's probably as soft as it's Minions"

"Rock slimes Mean rock slime alpha which means a Giant slime as big as you with a thick rock shell"

"Oh well that's... Interesting"

"Let's keep going if it's true then we can go back and report it"

"Why? You said they only change with a presence of a leader"

"That is observed so far, who knows? maybe it's just the sheer amount of rocks they eat off the wall"

"Fair enough let's go"

They keep going deeper fighting rock slimes with increasing Shell thickness along the way to a point where she must shoot a specific spot to even kill one "this is making me uneasy"

"Why?"

"I had to hit last one on a specific spot if it keep going like this my bow isgoing to be useless sooner or later, and then i only have my dagger which is as useless as the bow"

"Well you can count on me hehe"

"Said the one who keep getting hit" she said with a smirk

"Hey! I'm taking the bulk here to protect you"

"More like getting in their way"

"Hmph"

Her ears heard something in front of Them, something big

"Stop"

"Why? The slime alpha? Is it here?"

"I don't know for sur.."

She was cut off by a sudden stomping sound, they looked forward and sees a Giant slime covered in rocks "hah! Finnaly! A challenge! I shall cherish this moment!"

"Don't be overconfident"

"Heh... what is it gonna do? Roll? It's too heavy" that is the last thing he said before the huge slime started rolling full speed like a living Boulder towards Them.
