《W.A.R.F.R.A.M.E.》Chapter Twenty Nine: Round 2

It was late in the afternoon. The sun was setting over the horizon and the city was covered by a veil of red light. Inside the dining room of Vincent’s house, the group was celebrating. They had prepared an assortment of food and snacks on the table as they celebrated their first victory. Mister Myers stood up and raised his glass filled with cola, “Silver Vanguard has made it past the first round of the WARFRAME Championships, city qualifiers. Let’s raise a glass to our victory.” Maya, Vincent, Anna, and Justin all raised their glasses and spoke in unison, “Cheers!” Everyone drank from their glasses.
After drinking a bit, Maya who was sitting next to Anna asks, “Anna, how was the match?” Vincent took some nachos coated with beef and dripped with melted cheese from the skillet on the table, “It was a piece of cake, obviously.” Anna smiled awkwardly, “I wouldn’t say that. But I think we were each able to showcase our individual abilities today.” Mister Myer’s nodded in agreement, “That’s right. Your battle today was one worth seeing. Justin obviously upgraded his manta ray. Now it can be used as an additional weapon. Vincent has finally mastered space combat. And you Anna, I can see that you have also upgraded your frame. I’m just curious as to what kind of upgrades you have made?”
Anna smirked, and raised her index finger in front of her face and moved it back and forth from right to left, “That’s a secret.” Mister Myers laughs, “I can’t wait to see what it is.”
After finishing their party, Anna had requested to use the TV, to which Maya happily obliged. Anna turned on the TV and connected it to the Nexus website. She picked the video for the tournament rules and pressed play. The video played and the voice announced the rules for the tournament along with graphics to give the audience and participants a better picture of the rules of the tournament. “WARFRAME Battle Championship Rules for the under-18 Championships. “The under 18 championships consist of three-man teams. You can deploy up to 3 frames per team."
The video goes on to say, "Support machines such as ride armors count as one machine and thus must also have a pilot. A team may deploy a single large Ride Armor, but it must be piloted by two team members while the third pilots the frame equipped with the Ride Armor. The frames used in each battle can be changed. However, participants are not allowed to change frames mid-battle."

"The battlefields are chosen randomly by the system AI. The regulation allotted time for each match is 15 minutes. To attain victory, a team must destroy all units from the opposing team, or have more units functional when the timer runs out. If both teams have the same number of units available by the time the timer ends, in other words, a tie. Then each team must send a representative for a 1-on-1 match to decide the winner. Everyone, let’s remember the rules of the tournament. Let’s all have fun in WARFRAME Battle.”
After the video finished, Justin stretched his tired body and asks Anna, “Why are we watching this now?” Anna used the remote and turned the TV off, “Vincent didn’t really understand the rules when I told them to him. I wanted to show him this so that he could get a better picture of it. Well Vincent, do you understand the rules for the tournament, now?” Vincent was sitting on the couch with his head tilted back. His eyes were closed and he was lightly snoring. A stupefied Anna shouted, “When the heck did you fall asleep?” A bit irritated, Justin observed the sleeping Vincent, “Leave him alone Anna. Just like how anything x 0 = 0, anything x an idiot, still = an idiot. There’s just no point in trying to change him,” Justin snorted.
All Anna could do was awkwardly giggle as she somewhat agreed with Justin. While they were chatting, Maya walks in, “I’m about to head to the kitchen. Do you guys need anything?” Anna nodded, “Some juice would be nice.” Just as Maya was about to head into the kitchen Justin stood up and approached her, his expression was full of glee. “How about I help you?” Maya nodded. Justin and Maya were about to head to the kitchen when Mister Myers stepped in, “You don’t need to do that for the moment. What you need to do is strategize. You’re up against Dune Raiders tomorrow.” Vincent woke up, “Don’t worry, we’ve got this in the bag.” Mister Myers sighs, “I’d advise you not to be overconfident after your first victory. Your opponents will just get stronger from here.” After making his peace, Mister Myers left.
The following day, everyone had returned to the arena for the second round of the city qualifiers. Inside the arena, an announcement was made, “We will now begin the fourth match of the second round of the city qualifiers.” On a desert battlefield, six frames were facing off. A sand-colored Champion-type frame dashed through the sand and fired its cannons, while in the air, an Angel-type frame fired beams from its dual beam pistols as well as its bits. Then JoJo and her team dispersed to avoid the attack.

A third green Panzer type frame fired its missiles. JoJo just laughed when she saw how her opponent fought, “Did you think such a meager attack can even leave a scratch on my shield?” She dashed towards her opponent and deflected most of its attacks, before kneeing the Panzer type in the face. Her teammate then leaped and slashed with her glaive, splitting the Panzer type right down the middle. The Panzer type then exploded. When the Angel frame fired upon JoJo, her J-Gareth easily blocks the attack with her shields.
Having blocked the attack, JoJo fired the missiles from her shield. Her opponent had no choice but to go on the defensive and shoot down the missiles. While it was busy doing that, JoJo’s other teammate threw her spear at the distracted Angel-type. Then, it leaped up and grabbed the spear that had impaled the Angel type, before JoJo’s other teammate leaped into the air and thrusts her glaive through the damaged Angel type’s body. Just when the pilot thought it was over, she was wrong. JoJo had also leaped up into the air. She flew above the frame with two polearms sticking out of it and dropped on top of it with her halberd pointed downwards towards its head.
The four units landed on the ground but the Angel-type of the opposition was crushed by the weight of the J-Gareth as it fell to the ground. With the weight of the J-Gareth in addition to the three polearms impaled through it, the Angel-type exploded right after it fell to the ground, leaving a large crater. JoJo and her team walked out of the carnage unscathed as the explosion from the destroyed Angel-type colored their background as they walked away.
All that was left was the third sand-colored Champion type. The Champion-type saw how Song of Victory had dispatched two of its teammates and it did not want to go down without a fight. “You may have taken down my team, but I’m not going down so easily.” The sand-colored Champion-type fired everything it had. Cannon rounds and missiles were fired and they were aimed at the J-Gareth and its two Angel-type compatriots. JoJo sneered, “Your resistance is commendable. So how about I just give you quick destruction. Ultimate Attack!” The mechanical voice sounded and the crowd cheered, JoJo was the first person to actually use an ultimate attack in the tournament. “Critical Assault: Aura Charge!”
The J-Gareth raised its two shields, one on the forearm and the other on the shoulder, and stood in a shoulder tackle position with the two shields positioned in a way that they were above each other. The J-Gareth dashed forwards toward the Champion-type. As it dashed, its speed increased and a green aura had formed around the J-Gareth as it dashed. Upon reaching top speed, JoJo, rams into the Champion type and pushes it towards the nearest cliff wall. Along the way, JoJo crashed the Champion type against several rocks and boulders. The frame was already taking damage from the charge but the additional impact from crashing into rocks, boulders, and the cliff wall made it sustain more damage than it could handle. When it crashed into the wall, it left a large crater. JoJo distanced herself from the Champion type just as it exploded.
After the third frame was destroyed, the notification was given, ‘Battle Over!’ After which the announcement was made, “Winner, St. Agatha High School, team Song of Victory!” One of JoJo’s teammates smiled, “We’ve passed the second round.” The other teammate said, “I’m totally ecstatic.” JoJo smirked, “This result was expected.” JoJo then looked at Vincent who was sitting in the audience, “Vincent, this victory is for you.” Vincent smiled awkwardly, “Thanks, but I prefer my own victory.” JoJo was in awe and screamed, “Vincent, you’re so cool.”

Note to Reader: I understand this book is not for everyone, if there is a writer that can write to please everyone, I have never heard of them. The MC can be frustrating in his decisions as he learns to grow and accept what and who he is. I believe this reality is unavoidable. That being said, if you feel the need to give a review, please do so, just know that I will report you if all that review seems to do is blab toxic language and insult my literary choices without giving constructive advice or alternatives. That's not just a me policy, that's a policy of this website. I'm not writing this note because I'm a writer who does not acknowledge that there are faults in my work. I know there are. That's what happens when it hasn't been professionally edited by someone other than the author. I'm saying this because I'm sick of reading 1 star or 0.5 star rated reviews that seem to do nothing but hate on the book because they don't like the story. No comments on grammar, ways to improve or suggestions for better story arcs. Just plain hate. It's not on, and I frankly shouldn't have to write this note, but needed to get it off my chest. In saying all that, thank you to those who do leave reviews that don't fall into the above category. Your appreciation of my work, or alternatively, your willingness to give advice for improvement, is appreciated.
