《W.A.R.F.R.A.M.E.》Chapter Six: Club Absorption

In the school courtyard, Vincent was sleeping on a patch of grass under a tree. He had just eaten lunch and decided to doze off. Maya and Anna were sitting on a bench nearby. They chatted as they ate their lunch. They both ate as they watch Vincent sleeping. Maya takes a bite from her taco, “So, Vincent joined the WARFRAME Club.” While they chatted and ate their lunch, Anna remembered that she had never properly introduced herself. “I’m Anna Fischer. The Vice President of the WARFRAME Club. You don’t have to worry about your brother Maya. We’ll take good care of him.” Maya smiles, “Please do. But, it may be a bit difficult. You see, Vincent is a bit crude, careless, simple-minded, passionate, and a bit of a klutz.”
Anna could not help but smile awkwardly, “But, he’s honest, that’s for sure. Even though we just met yesterday, I can already tell.” Maya then turns to face Anna. She grabs her hands and holds them together with hers, “Anna, I may not be around for him much because of my job, so, please look after Vincent for me.” Anna then muttered, “I suddenly feel that a huge responsibility has been placed on my shoulders.”
The two of them then continued to eat their lunch. Maya then spoke her mind, “By the way Anna, you said that you were the vice president.” Anna nodded. May then continues to ask, “So where is the president. I don’t believe he was there yesterday.” Anna took a sip of her drink, “Actually, he’s in the hospital, recovering. He should be back in time for the qualifiers.” Maya did not want to pry any further, worried that it might be a sore subject.
Danny walked down the hallway with a girl right beside him. She had big glasses with dark ebony hair that was braided into twin tails that fell on her shoulders. “Danny, are you sure about this?” the girl asked nervously. Danny grinned confidently, “Of course, V. With his cooperation, we should easily be able to dispose of that club once and for all.”
Danny walked into Justin and Vincent’s class and walked up to the distracted Justin. Justin did not even notice Danny and V’s arrival. He kept thinking about his dream. Danny greeted Justin to get his attention, “Hello, Justin. I’m Danny, the President of the TTCCC.” Danny’s greeting woke Justin up from his stupor. So he turned his attention to the club president. “TTCCC?!” Danny goes on to explain, “Yes, the Table Top and Card Collectors Committee. I’d like your help with something. I guess you can call it a favor.”

When Anna and Vincent entered their club room, there was already someone there waiting for them there. He sat on the sofa with a magazine in one hand and a cookie in the other. When they entered, he closed his book and was about to introduce himself to the both of them when Vincent blurted, “Mister Myers, what are you doing here?” Mister Myers got up from his seat and stretched his arms. “So, you’ve decided to join the WARFAME Club. Welcome, Vincent.” Anna was perplexed so she asks Vincent, “Vincent, who is this? And what is he doing in here?”
Mister Myers brushed off all the crumbs that he had on him and introduced himself, “Vincent, and Maya, right?” Maya nods, “You can call me Mister Myers. I am your new club faculty advisor.” Maya was puzzled, “What happened to Miss Cameron?” Mister Myers placed his magazine on the table, “Well, my predecessor was called away when she heard her mother fell ill. So, since I’m the new guy here, and all the other teachers were already faculty advisors, I was made the WARFRAME Club’s advisor. Now any more questions?”
Vincent looked around the room and asked Anna a question, “Hey Anna, aren’t there any more members in this club?” To which Anna answered, “No. Aside from the two of us, there’s the club president, Frank. But he’s indisposed at the moment.” Vincent and Mister Myers nodded in understanding with an “Ohhh”. Anna takes a seat and goes on to explain their predicament. “We had a few more members last year but they either graduated, left the club to join the TTCCC, or left to join other clubs that gave them better college prospects.”
Vincent had question marks floating above his head, “TTCCC?” Anna nods, “Yup, the Table Top and Card Collecting Committee. Danny, the guy you fought yesterday is the president of the club.” Vincent suddenly recalled Danny, “Ohhh, you mean that bug.” Anna fervently nods in agreement, “So you think he looks like a bug too, Vincent?” Vincent answers with glee, “Yeah, I do, I definitely do.”
Danny grabbed the door hard and left scratch marks. He had just arrived when he overheard them calling him a bug, “Who’re you calling a bug?” Danny’s voice caught the attention of Vincent and Anna. Vincent and Anna turned their attention to the club entrance where Danny stood. “What are you doing here Danny?” Anna howled. Danny enters the club room with another young man in glasses. Anna was surprised to see this person, “Student Body President!? Why are you here?”

The Student Body President showed his clipboard to Anna. There was a few pieces of paper attached to it. “Regretfully, I have something to tell the WARFRAME Battle Club,” Anna exclaimed in surprise and shock after hearing what the president had to say. “WHAAAT!! The WARFRAME Battle Club is being absorbed into the TTCCC?!" The President then goes on to explain, “We’ve had complaints that the two clubs were too similar. That we had two of the same club in the school. So it has been decided that the TTCCC will absorb…” before he could finish his sentence, Anna interrupted him. “No. I don’t agree with this decision. In fact, I outright reject the notion!”
The Student Body President sighs, “However, at the moment, the WARFRAME Battle Club is unable to participate in the championships.” Anna tried to argue, “But we can get more members, and Frank will be out and about by the time the qualifiers begin.” The president shook his head, “Even with that, it’s not enough.” Mister Myers was observing the entire conversation. He then spoke out against the president, “Then what do you propose we do?” the president then goes on to provide a solution, “You’ll need to convince the student body executives and the representatives of the other clubs. If you are able to do so, then the WARFRAME club will be reinstated.”
Danny smirks, “You’ll have to demonstrate your abilities and usefulness as a club.” Anna glared at Danny, “In other words, you want us to battle with the TTCCC.” The president observed Danny and Anna, “Since you understand, then this makes things easier. So, we’ll hold the battle tomorrow. It’ll be a team battle with 3-on-3. Similar to the format of the championships. Is that alright?” Danny sneers, “That’s fine by me.” Anna argued, “Wait a minute! This isn’t fair. Our side only has two members. How can we have a 3-on-3 battle like that?”
Danny’s grin got even wider, “Didn’t you just say that you’d be able to get more members.” Panic and anger were visible on Anna’s face no matter how one looked at her, “But tomorrow is the deadline. How are we?” Before she could even finish Danny interrupted her, “If you can’t get enough people, then you will just have to battle with a handicap, won’t you? Or better yet, why don’t you forfeit right now and just save everyone the hassle?” Anna snarls, “We’re not going down without a fight.”
Anna was upset but then she got an idea, "If we can get the guy from yesterday. Then the odds will be in our favor." Danny fake coughed while Anna was in thought so as to get her attention. “Let me tell you about the opponents TTCCC has in store for you. Of course, there is me, the committee president, Danny Mitchell, and the vice president, Veronica Spencer. Then we have our guest pilot.” Justin, who was leaning against the wall and listening to the conversation between the two clubs. He thought to himself, "So I’m just another pawn in someone else’s scheme." The depressed Justin sighed and revealed himself to the WARFRAME Club. The WARFRAME Club was flabbergasted, especially Anna. Her possible ace in the hole had fallen into enemy hands.

Apex Immortal: a LitRPG system rampage
"Across the multiverse where the contest for power is the only constant, only a handful have succeeded in reaching the ultimate heights of ascendency and gained the title Apex Immortal. Dominus is one of them, unsurpassed in overwhelming violence, feared across universes. Now, memories locked and stranded far away from everything he’d built, Dominus will face enemies that will challenge even his powers and discover that change is more difficult than destruction." I’ve been writing fiction on and off for the last decade and I’ve always wondered how a peak immortal (or an OP superhero) would single handedly conquer a world that mirrors our own in all of its complexity. As a politics nerd, this is my attempt at answering that question using Machiavelli’s “The Prince” as the primary playbook. The “monsters” are entire political systems with entrenched culture. Expect many versions of real world political systems (and cultures) to be on the hit list. The MC has to successfully institute regime and cultural change without engaging in wholesale genocide and causing the state to fail. Expect things to go wrong pretty quickly as escalating and cascading political and economic effects rapidly go out of control. Methods deployed are not for the faint hearted.
