Part Fourteen – Cavisburgh Falls

“Don’t let those vermin break through! Hold the line!”

It was chaos. Pure chaos. A horde of monster had assaulted the walls. Though they looked to be the same weaklings they’d grown used to fighting, Analyzing them showed they were something far worse.

Even as the militia tried to hold them back, other monsters came pouring forth, looking for humans to kill. The result was quickly becoming obvious. The humans weren’t going to be able to hold them off.

*Bang Bang*

Even through the endless sounds of gunshots, those enormous thuds could be heard.

“Fuck! Trolls incoming!”

A handful of the house sized monsters had shown up. While they had far fewer number compared to the Goblins and Kobolds, they were far stronger. Their regenerative abilities allowed them to soak up bullets, and unless you got a lucky shot, the only way to kill them was to continually shoot them.

“Raaaaaaa"

With low groans, the Trolls began to throw large rocks they’d gotten from who knows where. Not only were these dangerous for the militiamen, the rocks tore holes through the improvised walls. Many people were instantly killed. What was worse, was that with no one to hold the line, monsters began to flood in. Screams soon rang out.

[Eric's POV]

“The walls been breached! Those fucking beasts are coming for us!”

It was all undone. Everything they’d worked for over the last two weeks, gone in mere moments. Monsters had broken through in multiple places, allowing them to massacre everyone. The militia had already suffered severe losses. The only people still alive were those in the shelter, which had a secondary barricade around it.

But it was clearly not enough.

“Fuck! I don’t want to die!”

“Shit shit shit!”

“God, please save us!”

Everyone was saying whatever came to mind, whether it was cursing their luck, or praying for salvation. But they were the lucky ones.

When they’d heard the outer wall fall, they’d collapsed the barricade to create another wall. It wasn’t very thick and if they were thinking properly, they’d have realized that all they’d done was condemn the others to death.

He was scared. Terrified. He kept thinking about the man who’d saved him the last time he’d been in danger. Michael had realized that the shelter was a toxic environment, and took the first opportunity to escape. I wish I could’ve gone with him. I should’ve left when he did, I was right there! I could’ve left and No one would’ve stopped me!!

It was far too late for regrets.

*Crash!*

As he was lost in thought, an enormous arm punched through the barrier. It grabbed him and dragged him out. As his vision recovered, he saw more monsters pouring into the hole that had been made along with the sounds of screaming and gunfire. Then all he saw was a large mouth.

[Hansen’s POV]

“Well this place is fucked.”

It was a shame. He’d been living it up like a king. His militia had been gathering resources and procuring more territory for him. All he’d had to do was arm them. Sure it probably wouldn’t have lasted for all that long, but he’d gotten more than his fair share of the benefits. Plus he’d always figured he’d be long gone before shit hit the fan.

That was what the escape tunnel was for. He didn’t know why the shelter had one, he just knew it did. It would take him just behind where the walls were and if he was lucky, he’d get to the semi he had parked nearby. I’d like to see some monster stop me in that!

Everything was perfect. He had a magic bag full of food, tons of ammunition, and his favorites guns. Now if only he had a women too, but bringing one of them along would just bring too many risks.

Heh, too easy. The tunnel led to a ladder, which opened into a manhole in an alley. From here, it was a short trip to where his truck was and he’d be on his way.

“WHAT THE HELL!? WHERE’S MY TRUCK!?”

It was gone. That much was obvious, but who could have taken it? The only people who knew about it, were his closest friends, and they’d all died back at the shelter. Even if one had survived and gotten here before him, only he knew were the key was hidden. He wasn’t going to have much time to think about it though.

“Grrrrrrrr"

Hansen whipped around, bringing his gun up to bear. Behind him was the strangest looking Goblins he’d ever seen. It was hunched over and covered in fur, with sharp golden eyes. As he went to kill it, it moved with untraceable speed, and ripped his arm apart.

“Gaaaaaaa!”

Even as he screamed, he tried to bring his sidearm up, only for its jaws to clamp around his head, ripping it off.

[Weregoblin’s POV]

That was extremely unsatisfying.

It spit the human’s head out of its mouth, disgusted with the taste. It didn’t have much of an appetite for human flesh anymore, but this was disgusting on a different level.

“Grrrr! Sniff, sniff”

A delightful scent was being carried to it on the wind. Something nearby was going to be delicious. As it made its way toward the source, it saw a handful of humans running away. Before, it would have chased them down and slaughtered them. But after meeting its rival, unnecessary things like that were trivial.

It instead focused on the other monster approaching it. While they looked like members of its former race, their scent was completely different. They smelled like death and rot.

Even though these faux-goblins possessed some degree of strength, they were no match for its claws. A single slash was enough to rip them apart. Even the wild beasts it had feed on the past few days were of no interest to it. It only had eyes for its prey.

The scent was getting closer.

“Raaaaaaa"

The low groaning of Trolls sounded out, forcing it to dodge the rocks thrown its way. These beasts dared to stand in its way. Then so be it. It took a deep breath, then howled

“GROOOOOWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLLL!!!”

It activated the Skill it had acquired the day before, forcing all the weakling around it to back away. Then it lashed out, its claws flashing with a light that had been missing before.

Every monster nearby was ripped to pieces, without a chance to even resist.

::Normal Skill: Claw Aura has become Rank D.::

That annoying voice was back. It had suddenly started to talk to it a few days ago, and had occasionally spouted random words that sort of made sense. It did know that if it focused on itself, it would see a more accurate representation of its abilities.

Status

Race: Weregoblin ( Goblin )

Age: 2

State: Healthy

Titles: Daemon, Murderer,

Rank: C

Skills

Normal Skills: Analyze, Claw Aura Rank D, Predator's Instinct,

Special Skills: Bloodthirst Rank F,

Most of that was gibberish to it. But it did know, or at least understood, that the Skills it possessed made it stronger. Especially the one that strengthened its claws. That allowed it to cut clean through even Trolls, who were famed for their toughness and durability.

The strange voice wasn’t important. The source of the scent was approaching. The death of several of its kin must’ve driven it to action, as it brought forth many of the foul smelling creatures. The Troll sent a series of fiery projectiles at it, but it used its claws to cut through them.

It wanted to use the howling attack, but it required it to wait in-between uses. Instead, it used its superior abilities and claws to cut through the troll’s horde of pawns. Each one that came before it was cut down by its overwhelming might. However, there were many enemies standing in its way, but this pleased it. A fight was boring if there wasn’t some challenge.

“GROOOOOWWWWWWW”

Soon, it was able to release its rage-filled roar once again. The weaklings around it all flinched, allowing it to close in on the Troll, which tried to fend it off with its large limbs. Alas, it was futile.

“Grrrrrr" ( Happy sound )

Its claws sunk into the Troll’s body. Even though this one was far tougher than its lesser kin, its flesh peeled away like paper before the might of its claws. Even a Troll’s regeneration couldn’t keep up with its skin being torn away repeatedly. It soon expired.

Once their leader had died, many of the other monster fled. The beasts had been forcibly controlled and began to attack everything else, while the remaining Goblins, Kobolds, and Trolls ran. The foul smelling ones had collapsed as well when the Troll died.

With its hunt finished, it began to tear into the flesh of its prey.

Aahh! Now this is satisfying.
