《New World - New Beginning》Chapter 49: Selling Monsters and Paying Fines

I leave the academy to go to the Merchants Guild to get rid of the monster bodies, but before that, I head to the guardhouse to greet Bob.
Hey Bob, are you there? Bob: Marco? No, I'm the president of Bolivia. Of course, I'm Marco! Bob: Hahaha, wait, I'll get it.
A few seconds later, the door opens, and Bob appears, but he is not alone because he is carrying a 4-5-year-old girl in his arms.
Is she your daughter? Bob: No, it's my niece. I'm taking care of her because my brother is on a trip and his wife went to buy some things. I see. By the way, I'm sorry about this morning. Bob: Nevermind, in any case, it was entertaining to see those Ent from the forest go back to their bushes with their tails between their legs.
After that, we chatted about various unimportant things, a typical friendly chat. Then I said goodbye and went to the merchants' guild.
...
After several minutes of walking, I arrive at the merchants' guild. I get in the sales line, which takes 32 minutes until finally, my turn, and I ask to be served by Alvar.
Oddly enough, I didn't have to wait for Alvar as he came out of room number 1 as I was just passing through the hallway on my way to room number 9.
Alvar: Marco! What a nice surprise, what are you bringing me now? Alvar, come to room 9 to talk business. Alvar: Understood.
We go into room number 9, and I start taking out what I want to sell.
Alvar: Is that an elemental Brute Bull? Did you run into a couple of Brute Bulls, or did it show up alone? I ran into a couple, but I couldn't kill them quickly, so it evolved in the middle of the fight. Alvar: The forest didn't burn down, did it? Of course not. I used a sponge bomb to avoid that. Alvar: That's better. Seeing everything you brought, I could give you 750 gold coins. It's a deal, by the way. Do you know the mission to hunt the crystal fox? Alvar: How could I not know it? Until today it has not been found. Do you know where this fox comes from? Alvar: Its place of origin? Alvar: It's probably from the Ampos continent. How far away is it? Alvar: Well, since flying is forbidden, you'll have to go by boat, which would be a 3-6 month trip, depending on where you land. How far is it? And why can't I go by plane? Alvar: It is because the power plant in the centre of the continent releases huge amounts of electricity that interferes with the machinery of the planes, so they chose to use ships to move the energy stones. Isn't it better to carry the stones in the inventory and use a teleportation portal? Alvar: Don't you know? The portals use the energy of the stones, and there is only one portal on the Ampos continent, which is only used in emergencies. They do not carry it in the inventory because those stones are not finished and require an extra step to be energy stones. And what is it? Alvar: Nobody knows it. Some say that only the royal family knows it. Others say that only the 3 most intelligent or influential people of the planet Unity know it. I see, so where do I go sailing to the Ampos continent? Alvar: I recommend you go to the aurora city to take a plane and travel to the Fana continent. You can take a ship to travel to the Ampos continent. By doing that, do I reduce the travel time? Alvar: No, in fact, the trip would be longer. What? And why do you want me to do that? Alvar: Because the travel processes to go from the continent Fana to the continent Ampos are less tedious than the ones you would have to do from the continent Lerit to the continent Ampos. How tedious are they? Alvar: To the point where you'd rather swim than take that boat, although one guy did. What the hell, is that real? Alvar: Yes, thanks to that action of yours, the process to take the boat was lowered, but it's still just as tedious. Ok, then I'll do as you say. Alvar: You're welcome. By the way, why are you asking about the crystal fox? Huh? Ah! It's just that it caught my attention since it's been on the quest board for a long time, and I wanted to know where that monster came from. Alvar: Anyway, I hope he doesn't get caught and escape. What do you mean? Alvar: Apparently, the one who put the reward doesn't want to keep it as a pet anymore. He wants to hunt it down and kill it because it wastes his time. I see... I hope so too.

After a bit of talk, I say goodbye to Alvar to go to the city's entrance to pay the fine, and in case there is no fine, to pay him for the spear, I broke the guard in the morning.
As I approached the front door, the guards on duty today were discussing what happened this morning.
Guard 2: Are you still thinking about what happened this morning? Guard 1: What do you think. Guard 3: Stop thinking about it; besides, he said he would come back to pay the fine. Guard 1: And you think he'll come back? It's 40 gold coins! Guard 3: Good point, then all that's left is to file a report and hang wanted posters. Guard 2: Exactly. Besides, you just want to see him again to ask how he stopped your attack. Guard 1: It doesn't make sense. How did he stop my attack? My spear had the light element, and I boosted it with the wind flow skill. In theory, it should be fast and hard to see because of the glow emanating from the spear. Guard 3: Maybe he has a passive ability that allows him to focus his eyes? Guard 1: And how do you explain that it split my spear in half? Guard 3: Is his sword stronger than your spear? Guard 1: But... Guard 2: That's enough. Even if you keep asking yourself that question all day long, you won't get anywhere.
After that conversation, they went back to work as if nothing had happened, but in their minds, they were also wondering the same thing, how did he do it? They knew perfectly well that their friend's spear was not high quality. Still, his skills were, since he is fast enough to kill a D-rank monster in one hit, and today an unknown guy appeared from who knows where who blocked the attack and destroyed his spear.
This has only two possible answers: your sword is very strong, or your skill is very strong. In either case, you have to be alert because if this situation is repeated, you could lose your job and go back to hunting monsters for income.
Good afternoon, I come to pay this morning's fine and incidentally pay for the spear I broke.
While the guards were thinking about what happened this morning, the perpetrator of the events appeared without warning.
Guards: ... What's going on? Guard 1: This guy... Guard 2: Really... Guard 3: He came back... Of course, I came back. If I promise something, I keep it. Guard 1: It's just that we didn't think you would come back. Well, that doesn't matter. I want to know how much I have to pay for the fine and the spear I broke. Guard 3: The fine is 40 gold coins, and for the spear... Guard 1: It cost me 1 gold coin. Ok, here you go.

I take out 41 gold coins and place them on the registration table, which makes the guards look surprised, as they have never seen so many gold coins in their lives.
Now, if you excuse me, I have to go, see you later. Guards: Huh?
Without warning, Marco turns around and runs off in the direction of the central square, leaving the guards stunned and unable to react in time to ask him a few questions.
Guard 1: Shit, he's gone! Guard 3: *sigh* I guess you won't be able to ask him the questions you wanted. Guard 2: Don't take this the wrong way. Even if you had, I doubt he'd answer you since it's personal information. Guard 1: Yes...I think it is better to forget this matter.
While the guards reflected on what happened, Marco was already in a Thai food restaurant tasting the Panang Curry, a stew based on meat and spices.
Once finished, I head towards the academy to continue reading the books in the library. There is still a lot of information I need to know about this world.
...
Once in the academy, I get ready to go to the library and curiously, Theo is in it. Still, I decided not to talk to him because he seemed very focused on his study.
Instead, I go to sections 3C, 4D, and 5E to see some interesting books. After all, there is no useless knowledge in this world. Who knows, maybe I will find an interesting fact that can help me in the future.
...
After several hours, I finished reading all the interesting books in sections 3C and 4D. Not all of them had valuable information, but they were interesting, such is the case of a book called "The night of blood" related to Kennet Farner's events. How he won the global event "Survival Horror", I can infer that it is a kind of Halloween event that appears every 5 years. Anyone can participate as long as he is an adventurer and is 21 years old.
If you want to participate in this event, you will have to travel to the planet Nexus. Once you arrive, you will get a notification asking if you want to register, once you do that, the system will show you a timer, and when it reaches zero, you will be teleported to a planet which will be set in a random survival horror video game world, in which you will have to find a way to escape.
For the event to be as fair as possible, all items except for your primary weapon are unusable, and you can only use basic attacks. As for the passive skills, if you have more than two, you will have to choose one, and the others will be unusable.
In the book, it is mentioned that Kennet was quite lucky. You can have everything in his favour. His profession was "Master of Weapons", which allowed him to use any weapon. As for his passive ability, "Strong senses" allowed him to be aware of his surroundings and be alert at all times for the survival horror game of that time was "Dead Space", so the guy used all his ingenuity and managed to repair a ship to escape the planet.
I have no idea when the next Halloween event will be, but I would like to participate. I am not a fan of horror games, but I would like to see a planet totally oriented to a single video game. It would be like watching the Comicon or being in Disneyworld.

A Fractal Divide
Lesivar is a city in ascendancy. With recent innovations in magical crafting, the common people are experiencing a boom in comfort and wealth. The nobility, long used to being the stewards of knowledge and power, struggle to adapt to the new world in which they find themselves. A precarious balance has been maintained throughout, but forces stir beneath the surface threatening to send the city spiraling into chaos. This is my first attempt at writing anything longer than a short story, and I welcome any feedback or corrections. I'm posting this as I write, with each chapter going live upon completion. My current pace is about a chapter a day, which I expect to take my through the end of November. From there, I'm shooting for a chapter every two-three days until the book is completed, along with an editing pass of what is already up. I'm planning on three POV characters with unique insight into the story as it unfolds. Each chapter will contain only one POV. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
