《New World - New Beginning》Chapter 36: These vultures don't fly, they only glide
Advertisement
After four long hours, I sit down on a rock to rest, as I have been hunting without rest. But all that effort was worth it because I obtained 62 fat mice, 57 light blue scale lizards, 34 Noda herbs, and 40 Macra herbs,
Thanks to that hunt, I got two achievements that increased my HP/MP +10 and my Stamina +20. I also found the iron vulture, but I couldn't hunt or seal it as they are nesting on top of a mountain, and there are too many of them around. Plus, the mud golems are also on that mountain.
So I can only wait for an iron vulture to come down from the mountain so I can catch it, so now I can only wait.
It's already a little late. Do you want to eat Kawaii already? Kii!!!! (っˆڡˆς)
I take out the packet of food for me and 20 Macra herbs for Kawaii, and we start eating, but in the middle of our meal, a strange situation arises.
KREEEE!!! What the fuck?!
In the sky appeared two fierce vultures were fighting. Their wingspan is two meters. Their legs are white. Their plumage is black on the tips of their wings but brown on the rest of the body, but the strange thing is that they do not fight with their beak or claws. Still, they flap their wings to release a cutting wind for a second and then continue gliding. The curious thing is that they do not flap their wings to rise and only use them to attack, so they continue to fall slowly.
After a few minutes, one of the fierce vultures hit the other with its wings causing it to plummet to the ground. The other one goes to the mountain, uses its legs to hold on to it, and starts to climb as if it were normal.
Let's go for the Kawaii! Kii!!!
I leave my food and run to look for the fallen iron vulture, hoping it's still alive to seal it, and in case it's not, I pick up the body. There's no point in wasting it.
I check the surroundings and approximate where the vulture has fallen, and I manage to find him. When I see him, he is very hurt but still breathing; the branches of the surrounding trees contain to cushion his fall. For that reason, he is still alive, so it's time for another experiment.
Seal Monster!
I start the sealing process on my steel sword. As he is significantly injured, he doesn't resist, which saves me the trouble of using the ropes. However, still, the sealing fails, and I have to wait 30 seconds until I can do it again.
While I could tie him up and heal him to avoid losing this opportunity, the situation may arise that he launches a desperate attack and, in the process, dies; also, I want to see if sealing a monster that is seriously injured heals completely when the sword breaks.
The last time I released the fat mouse, it attacked me without any complications, but I had not done severe wounds but only knocked it out to prevent it from moving. The same was with the lizard, as I only did wounds to prevent it from moving. I never got to a case like the one with the iron vulture.

Seal Monster!
I tried again to seal the vulture on the sword, which worked this time, which was great because I felt he would die in the next few seconds, so I checked the sword.
The blade is brown, and the guard is black, while the hilt has a white color. Now let's see its characteristics.
[Katana-type steel sword with no name (You can name it)]
[Attribute: Wind/Steel]
[Description: An ordinary steel sword in which is sealed "The Iron Vulture," a bird whose wings are as solid and heavy as a steel sword, due to this, it cannot fly, so it can only glide]
[Characteristics: HP/Stamina +10, Strength/Intelligence +2]
So it can't fly, only glide in the air, which explains its strange combat mode. While I would like to try these new abilities, I restrain myself, as I still need to eat.
I put the sword away and take out my food again, but we don't have any surprise fights in the air this time, so we eat calmly.
As soon as I finish eating, I get up and go back to hunting monsters and collecting herbs, but now I head to the mountain of vultures and golem. Although I don't want to do it, I must go because I need to test this new sword and see if it is possible to fight against aerial or defensive monsters.
I climb the mountain slowly, looking for the golems that roam around here. After several minutes, I managed to find one. Its size is 3 meters. It has a humanoid-shaped body, but at the same time deformed. Its eyes are white, while the rest of its body is gray, it looks robust, but it moves very slowly.
Now the question is, how do I attack it? I don't know the weak point, so I have no idea how to defeat it. In video games, golems have a core that is their source of life, but I have no idea if it will be the same here, and if so, where is it?
Some video games place the core in the center of the body, but in others, its core can be anywhere. I could cut off his head, but it's very likely he'll regenerate it like nothing. I think I'd better use possession of my new sword and see if there's an ability that can help me.
Possession!
As soon as I use this ability, I start to feel how my body starts to change, and just like last time, this only lasts a second, so I start to check my body. My eyes have become sharper. My arms have a brown plumage that becomes blacker as it reaches the dorsal. From my back, black wings emerge, which are difficult to move, and my legs are now the same as the iron vulture's and tear my shoes.

[Active Skills]
[Attack: Cutting Wind]
[You wave your sword to release a wind strong enough to cause skin lacerations with a 5% chance of causing light bleeding, the wind has an attack range of 10 meters long]
[Cost: 50 MP]
[Cooldown: 20 Seconds]
[Defense: Winged shield]
[By using the wings on your back, you can mitigate damage from physical or magical attacks by 50% for 3 seconds]
[Cost: 100 MP]
[Cooldown: 40 seconds]
[Debuff: Screech]
[You join your wings together to generate a sound wave so horrible that it can stun your opponents for 2 seconds]
[Cost: 200 MP]
[Cooldown: 5 minutes]
[Passive Abilities]
[Scavenger: The more enemies you defeat, the stronger you become, but they also increase the chance of you going into a state of insanity]
[Glide: You can use your wings to glide in the air, the higher the altitude, the longer you can stay in the air]
[Detection: Your eyes can detect the slightest movements while you are in the air].
From what I can understand, this sword is more focused on entering hit, stun and escape, which is not bad in group fights, but a 1vs1 battle is different. At the same time, I could use a winged shield to mitigate some of the opponent's damage and then use cutting wind while he is near me. I could only do it once because my MP is only 290. It is very different if I use the buff water wave because while it costs 200, I have 2 minutes to use it, and the faster you attack, the more likely to release the water wave.
And now I am facing a golem, a monster known for its defense, and that is not a living being. I am at a disadvantage with these abilities, so I can only use the winged shield to avoid a few hits, but if they are too slow, it won't be worth using it.
With that said, I ran towards the golem to start the fight. It sees me and starts walking towards me. Still, the speed at which it moves is very slow, so I continue running without worrying about more golems appearing without warning.
When I'm about a meter away, the golem raises its deformed arms, intending to crush me, so I take advantage of its slow speed to attack the golem's left arm.
Cutting Wind!
I aim at its arm and use the ability to cut the wind. Although it is useless against a monster like this, I can try to use the wind to cut its arm, but it is futile since I barely leave a mark that begins to regenerate. What I managed to do was move it about 40 or 50 centimeters away from me, which is a good thing.
Seeing that his attack didn't stop, I jumped backward to avoid it. Two seconds later, his fists impact the floor, causing it to split and send pieces of stone and dirt all over the place, so some of them hit me.
[-74 HP]
Seeing this causes my back to start releasing cold sweat. If this attack were to hit me even if I used the winged shield, that hit would, without a problem, take away about 400 HP. Since my possession is useless against this monster, I put away my sword and pull out the other one of the earth/water elements.
When I do this, my possession stops entirely and goes into a cooldown state, which is not surprising since it is something I knew would happen. Maybe I could avoid this situation if I had a sword changeability. Still, I doubt this would work if we consider that I can only use the sword abilities during the possession while the others are disabled.
But let's stop thinking about that. Now let's focus on the golem in front of me. I take out an essential MP potion LV 2 to recover the MP I lost and get ready. I will use a focused slash to cut the golem in half. That way, I will be able to know if it has a core or not. If it has one, I will know in which part of its body it is located because depending on the part that regenerates, I will know where the core is located.
The golem is still approaching, so I grab my sword tightly and run in its direction. When I see that the golem raises its arms again, I attack again.
Focused slash!
I use 50 MP for the skill this time, and I see how the laido pierces its waist and comes out the other side. After that slash, the upper part of the golem falls backward because its arms are in the air while its legs are still in the same position.
After a few seconds, the golem's legs begin to crumble while the upper part begins to regenerate into a new pair of legs which confirms that it has a core. Seeing this, I perform several basic attacks to separate the chest and abdomen in half. As I do so, I see that the chest part begins to regenerate the abdomen, so I begin to cut its head.
As I do so, his chest regenerates another head, which indicates that his core is there. Hence, I start dissecting his chest until I touch something hard.
Once extracted, I see that it is a round yellow stone, and it feels warm to the touch. Now that I have it in my hand, a notification appears.
[You have hunted mud golem].
The golem was easier to defeat than I thought it would be, but that's because the laido was able to cut its body. If that didn't work, I would be fighting uselessly.
At least I know that golems now have cores, but I don't know if their location is always the same. I need to hunt another one to confirm that.
...
After 2 minutes of searching, I find another mud golem, so I walk towards it as I don't need to run towards it. Once I'm close enough to it, I cut it in half.
The situation is repeated, and I wait for it to regenerate. It turns out that the top part starts to regenerate, which confirms that the golem cores are in the chest.
I repeat the same procedure and get another golem core. Now that I know how to deal with them, I can calmly explore this mountain.

With so many stories on the internet right now, It's almost impossible if not outright impossible to make an original MC. The best I can do is pick the kind of cliched MC I like the most and give it a twist of my own. English is not my first language, so there will be some mistakes in every chapter. Please notify me in the comment if you found one (Or some). I'm still an inexperienced writer, so feedbacks and reviews are very much appreciated.
